The best CV workout I've ever done!

They say ladies don't sweat and glow instead. In that case I was glowing all over the place during my exam yesterday!

I'll definitely be taking this up even if I don't teach it. Anything that makes you sweat like that has to be good for you!

EDIT: Soinning? WTF is soinning? - lots of love, Sausage Fingers

Was it your bottom? My poor bum still hasn't forgiven me!

I think it started at my bottom and descended to mainly my thighs and legs...

You know when they go 'half a turn up, half a turn down'

OMG I couldn't do it on the easiest setting.

If you ever feel like you need to sweat - do a soinning class ;)

Why can't they just have comfortable seats? I'd put more effort in if my arse was more comfy! I haven't got any muscle soreness just a bruised bottom!

Soinnning - it's for people wot sweat!

Soinning is close to soiled and as sweat is excretement anyway... :( so almost quite apt!!!

BBx

It is not just an exercise bike Mr Feekles!!!

It is a metal monster!!! :D

They take the form of classes... so 30/45/60mins etc and you cycle.... continuously... they are special bikes which you can change the resistance as and when instructed by the instructor.

You have a series of music tracks to work out to - first is warm up and then 6 or 7 more (you are still cycling constantly)

Each track you do a different exercise or resistance, standing up, sitting down... all alternating...

Its bloody hard work!!

I think I am right, but sexy fitness lady will prob know more :)

Pah, that's far to safe, try doing that whilst riding around mountains... When you get tired you.... fall off, and generally hurt yourself. So you better not get tired :D. Much more fun when you're actually moving, that would bore (and tire) the s**** out of me. Whereas normally I'm exhilarated and tired :D Also apart from (i won't lie numberous in my case) repairs and initial outlay, my version is pretty much free for life :p

See this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDaqcEkQRnM) is more sensible, not that this is me or i've been to canada, but you get the idea!

Roberta
14-08-2008, 15:35
Having 3 kids I'm afraid I really don't have time to ride out to the mountains for my workout!

Roberta
14-08-2008, 15:37
Oh, and being an instructor at the gym mine is free also (and no repairs!)

LeperousDust
14-08-2008, 15:39
But surely you've spend the same time riding around, as you would on your workout, unless you're teaching it of course which is different, most people would normally just be participating it. I'd probably teach this if someone paid me too :p.

It's also not so fair that i've got the Pentlands right next door to me, well i say next door, its a 15 min cycle which is close enough for me. I don't know what its like down thar, probably flatter :p

I'll be teaching it. I'll also be attending other people's classes to extend my knowledge.

Also, I would be a liability on the bike on the roads - I've never owned one as my parents wouldn't let me have one, so have never learned to ride one properly! While everyone else was doing their cycling proficiency at school I was actually learning how to ride!

I am considering nicking Paul's bike for rides along the seafront though. Even I can manage that (in a wobbly fashion!)!

LeperousDust
14-08-2008, 15:47
It's OK i'm a liability on a bike too, its all part of the fun :) Well after you've woken up from being out cold not knowing where there hell you are or why you're outside on a bike...
I'll let you off then, but cycling is excellent fun exercise i see it like running but lower impact (well unless you fall off of course) and you get to see more scenery than the same timed run :) I just mix it up a bit by doing some off road... You should definitely nick Pauls bike!

Just keep at it, it stops hurting eventually. Apparently it can cause us males potentially more damage too (i guess I'd know about that as well :(). Thank your lucky stars you're not using racing or slim line seats (unless you are :p) they are nothing more than a small extension to the seat stay :p

My bike has a nasty saddle on it. Took me weeks until I got even remotely comfortable sitting on it whilst cycling.

A fair number of people at work are now riding fixed wheel racers, through commuter traffic in London which I think is slightly on the insane side!

Roberta

It looked like a bloody razor blade and felt like one too! Everyone hobbled out after the exam and there were squeaks all over the room when told to sit down at the end of 5 hours pretty much continuous bike usage!

OK, I meant that I don't have any sound while playing it at work.

Still looks like a fancy name for an exercise bike to me :p

It is an exercise bike - spinning refers to the name of the class you do with it although spinning bikes are supposedly more tough than your usual exercise bike.

Me too ;D

Hospitalised myself 3 times in 9 months the final time for 10 days while they rebuilt my left wrist.

Probably a good job I drive everywhere now :o

Not in my gym :( I did a standard 45 minute class after being told how amazingly quickly it goes. I'm peddling away thinking I'm a right sweaty tired mare but at least it'll be over soon... just to realise I'd only been going 10 mins ;D

Spinning classes + Pheebs = Looks-like-she's-consumed-half-a-barrel-of-cider

And yes bottoms = disaster zones when spinning!

Glad you enjoy it though Roberta! :D

If anyone wants to try spin, try at least 4 or 5 classes with different instructors, as they all do it differently, some can be really boring, others exciting, depending on what music the instructor uses.

My current favorite is sunday morning spin, the guy uses only 80's tracks, and its a great atmosphere, one i goto on a friday night sometimes is horrific, all hard dance beats and very gruelling with no personality, so you have to find the right class to suit you. Its amazing how much easier a class is with music you enjoy.

I've never done a spinning class but the exercise bikes at every gym I've been to have saddles that are really wide (probably about 10-12" wide) which I'm assuming are intended to be more comfortable for women. They just ruin me for anything more than 10 minutes worth of cycling - I once made the unfortunate mistake of cycling about twice around Stanley Park on a bike with a womans saddle and literally couldn't walk properly for two days and that is even with me standing up out of the saddle for most of the time because it was so uncomfortable. :o

SDG Bel Air is where it is at in terms of bike saddles, they don't look that comfortable but paradoxically the firmness of the saddle really helps after the first couple of rides.

After teaching a 1 hour class my bottom was comfortable! Hurrah! I think the 5 hour exam was just a little excessive! My poor bum took about 5 days to stop hurting!

Bikes anywhere are pretty similar, you will have a sore arse the first few times you do it, but after that your muscles adjust. Im 16 and a half stone and i find them comfortable enough.

I rather thought they would be similar all round. I'm not so convinced that I'd ever get used to exercise bike saddles though, they are just too wide and too soft for me to get along with them properly. When I'm cycling properly I prefer a harder saddle, it just feels better when putting in the miles but that's simply personal preference I suppose.

I also quite like spinning classes, one of the more interesting ways of doing CV work. But like some others here getting the saddle right seems to be something of a black art, sometimes it's absolutely fine and I can breeze through 45 mins, other times my delicate man parts just don't sit comfortably at all. :(
