Last Friday a transfer was initiated into my account and at the same time, a cheque was paid in.

Cheque cleared yesterday, the transfer still hasn't appeared :(

Whenever I cash a chq or do a transfer I don't expect it to be done within a week - then when it is - thats a bonus! :D

I fail to see how the banks can justify this. It doesn't take 3-5 days for my benk to tell my brother's bank that I'm good for the money I'm transferring - it should happen in a matter of seconds.

Wasn't some rule passed a little while back meaning transfers were meant to happen far quicker now?

Not passed, i think banks can just take part in the "faster transactions" if they wish, and so far it only works between the same bank, and maybe a few others. So its still pretty useless the technology is there for everyone to take part in instant bank transfers but banks still make a fair amount of interest off this limbo money for 3-5 days...

I'm ok with that though. In some countries you pay a subscription to have a bank account, personally I'd rather they keep my transfers for a couple of days than charge me elsewhere, I can work around the delay.

We're used to free banking in this country and I'd like it to stay that way, if things like this help then so be it. When the whole charging for cash points thing fell through the banks started moaning (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6375063.stm) again. I'm worried this fast transfer facility will be another nail in the coffin.

Have to agree with Daz really. If this is where they make some money rather than charging me for using my account, I'm all for it. They WILL recoup the money from somewhere.

The trouble is that I budgeted all this week for getting a certain amount of cash out of the cashpoint each day so that I'd have what I need tomorrow - Now I'm going to have to go into a branch tomorrow and that's quite inconvenient.

I phoned the bank and they have no record of anything coming in :(

It's worse with Paypal. I wanted to buy stuff off fleabay recently but my Paypal account was broken so I made another one. Unfortunately, it wouldn't let me use the same account I use for the original account (fixed now btw) and that's the only one with a debit card.

I had to transfer cash from my SO/DD account into my temporary second Paypal account and it took 9 ****ing days to get from my bank account to my Paypal account :angry:

It's a good job the stuff I was buying was from an ebay shop and was permanently on sale.

:****er::****er::****er:

What's the crack with the quick transfer thing then? Do you pay a fee for that and the long transfers are still free or what? I do remember hearing something about it a while back but didn't really pay attention.

Quick transfers are free but only supported by, and between certain banks.

I always thought that but I did a Paypal transfer into my bank account the same day, it was in the bank on Tuesday, quicker than the cheque.
