Been sorting out all my pootery stuff to check it all out and it looks like it's going to take me a while.

Bloody hell, that month seems to have gone quickly.

 That's a lot!

Kick me when you're done as we discussed ;)

Impressive!
Some of those graphics cards look better than ones in most of the rigs here ;D

Pretty much everything in these pictures is up for grabs.

Once I've tested it all, I'll get a list together of everything that's working and post it in the for sale/freecycle thread.

What kinda pcs do you have there? Would love something more meaty than my iBook for video converting, etc.

Mostly X2 AMDs and 1 Pentium D. The better X2s are already spoken for, I'm afraid but the Pentium D 805 clocks like a good 'un and isn't too shabby. Dunno what your iBook is like, performance wise but if you think the 805 will be better, you're welcome to it :)

Well it's a 1.4 G4 not sure what that is PC performance :p Will probably make a hackintosh out of but not sure what parts are best

<cheek mode>
would it be possible to ask Mr Feek for some suggestions and see what parts you have??
</cheek mode>

I'll happily admit I know nothing about the PC parts market anymore ;D

EDIT: feek has mentioned something about 775 processor and p65 gigabyte board

Stan_Lite
23-08-2008, 21:26
Well, the Pentium D is a 775 but it's nowhere near as fast as the Core2 chips. Dunno if it would still work as a Hackintosh - I don't know much about that side of things at all.

For a hack it's really got to be a core2duo or quadcore jobbie otherwise kernel hacking has to happen and you really want to be using a vanilla kernel. Any of the Gigabyte boards that we were talking about previously, 965P-DS3 or similar are perfect.

ah well would it run vista??? or should I just stick to XP?

I'm almost certain it'll run Vista (will test to make sure). It's RAM that's important with Vista, the more, the merrier. TBH, if it's mostly going to be for video encoding etc, there's no real need for Vista, XP will do just as well, if not better.

When you say the good X2s are spoken for, what models are the not so good ones?

Also, what are the sound cards?

There may be a 3800+ left (depends on a previous interested party). If that's gone, there's only a 4000+ San Diego left - it is an extremely good clocker but only single core.

Sound cards are all good. There's a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, a Trust SC-5250 and an M-Audio Revolution - all 5.1 cards.

Ah, ok, well the CPU isn't much interest then, as the 3500+ I have is a brilliant clocker but it's held back by the RAM now but the sound cards may pique my interest :p

Sound cards may pique my interest as well, as I'm still using onboard sound myself though it's pretty good still.

(Have been listening to Kelly...) ;D

Do you happen to have any DDR1 RAM Stan?

Anything better than a 2.8GHz P4 with 2Gb of ram?

Whisky or whiskey waiting

I see what you mean about the overclocking Stan, just been reading an article on toms hardware and they got the Pentium D up to around 4Ghz  so yeah that would be soooooooo much faster than my iBook :D

So yeah if you can chuck me a system together that would be awesome! Renumeration's I leave to you to decide :)

If any of the sound cards will beat my somewhat old Soundblaster Live! then I'm game. Otherwise I think I'm out - in fact I'll probably be selling two PCs myself soon.

I use onboard sound myself - my ears aren't sensitive enough to notice any difference. Anything in particular you're interested in?

LOL. No externals, I'm afraid and none of them are big enough to bother putting in one to be honest.

Do you happen to have any DDR1 RAM Stan?

Tons of it. What you looking for?

About the only thing I'll have left will be the 4000+ I mentioned above. Better than your old Northwood. Not sure if I'll have 2GB RAM to put in it but I'll see what's left when all the others have got their stuff.

Will get on to it when I've finished Feek and Malc's machines.

There's three of you expressed an interest in the three sound cards so you'll have to decide amongst yourselves who wants what.

Don't forget Me matey :p

Never dude. I'm building Feek's just now and I'll get on to yours straight after :)

If you particularly want a sound card, go for it, I was merely interested because it was there, rather than really needing one :p

I've got a Revo, got it when it was first produced and did a bit of testing for M-audio. Quality card :)

I have to ask as C & C 3 is coming out soon, got anything in the way of an AGP vid that could handle that game? Right now I'm running a VERY ancient ATI AIW 7250 (I think) 32Mb and it sturggles HARD CORE with C&C Generals.

If there's anything from this side of the pond that'll fit in a box you want, we can maybe arrange a trade? Don't forget I've moved out of the boonies into a real city now, so there's not much out of reach anymore.

I think he mentioned on SPS the best in the way of AGP gear was a Radeon 7000

edit -
The highest spec AGP I can find is an ATI Radeon 7000 64MB (that's what it says on the back anyway).
