This is the events so far as the site still don't work for me at home.

The site seems to be still down for me, it has been 3 days since it went live when i change over the DNS server but i still cannot view it in my home (I did for a bit but now its down). It works for some friends in other part of the country but i am still having problems seeing it. Not only that, my emails xxx at raymondlin dot net also stops functioning too, outlook cannot retrieve it, and i can't get to my control panel in the email too.........which is really odd, i have tried both FF and IE so its not a browser problem.

The email control panel is locate at http://bludomain35.com:2082/ and that page doesn't even load up for me.

Thanks.

and then he emailed back with this.

what DNS numbers did you direct your domain name to. IT should be:

nsxxxx.dizinc.com
nsxxxx.dizinc.com

not that there is no D at the beginning of the DNS numbers.

HArald

So i wrote back with

This is what i put in as that is what you gave me.

Who is right? Is there a D at the start of the numbers?

They need someone to teach them how to configure DNS zones. The way you have it now - NS (without the D). DNS (with the D) has been configured incorrectly and resolves to some random server in Brazil. :dunno:

If you're still getting an old address, you need to flush DNS. That's ipconfig /flushdns on Windows. Not sure what other OS's use, but a reboot should almost always do the trick.

PS - there was no point masking out the 'xxx' - took me about 5 seconds to fill in the blanks. :)

Is the DNS address a security problem if i show it?

Mark
25-08-2008, 12:54
DNS information for a public website is public information whether you choose to show it or not - site won't work without it. :)

PS - I can get your home address the same way I got the DNS. That would be where the risk would be, if you're suitably paranoid.

I'll leave it then, as for the original problem, i've put it at the following now.

nsxxxx.dizinc.com
nsxxxx.dizinc.com

Which is correctmundo? :)

p.s. you've been a great help in all this mark :)

Mark

Yes, that all seems correct. I see you've added a Blog link to the homepage. :)

Indeed, as mark says, if anyone wants to, putting raymondlin.net in a WHOIS search engine, brings up all sorts of info, including those DNS addresses and your home address, mobile number and email.

That's mostly why I chose a .co.uk domain, as it allowed me to opt out of displaying such data publicly, I don't think you can do that with a .net

This is weird...

http://raymondlin.net works for me but www.raymondlin.net doesn't

Holy crap, didn't know that !

They both work for me and they're both pointing to the same IP address so you may need to flush your DNS cache. Close your web browser, open a command prompt and do 'ipconfig /flushdns' then try again.

Holy crap, didn't know that !

WHOIS gives out a lot of information.

For example I can see that you live at house number 69.

This is just turning into a game of 'scare raymond with whois' :p

edit - for example, this is all my WHOIS will bring up on my site.

On a related note, the sentence at the bottom of the index page needs looking at.

hmm, flushed DNS, www. site won't load, but http:// does.

Mark
25-08-2008, 13:39
There are ways - certainly for .com and probably for .net.

Try it with my main domain and all you'll get is...

Registrant:
Domains by Proxy, Inc.
DomainsByProxy.com
15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
United States

The only problem with doing that is who the courts would consider to own the domain should it ever be contested. I'm not sure there's been any such case to answer that.

hmm, flushed DNS, www. site won't load, but http:// does.
If in doubt, reboot everything - PC, router, modem (if relevant). Either that or you ISP needs kicking for having non-compliant DNS servers.

What error do you get?

Mondo
25-08-2008, 13:46
I got

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.raymondlin.net.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Quick tip if you are getting no joy with your registrant with fixing your DNS, you can get free DNS which lets you configure all the CNAME/A/MX records at editdns.net. Do all the config their and point at their nameservers.

Just wondering now that i corrected the DNS address, will it take another 72 hours before for it to propagate fully ?

Mondo

Well, its not a PC issue as same problem on my phone over wifi, cant get the www. link to work.

tried restarting your router?

Mondo
25-08-2008, 14:48
Yup, on a side point, i can't get to this link either

http://bludomain35.com:2082/

It's the CPanel for my .net email. so it can't be a DNS problem with the site....a server problem?

Mark
25-08-2008, 15:07
That works fine for me. I'm guessing you've got ISP problems then.

Mondo
25-08-2008, 15:15
Its not a server problem as you can access it, its not a PC problem as its the same with my iphone, you are probably right, ISP problem.

Will call them in the morning.
