As if the 4.1m batteries Dell recalled last week wasn't enough, Apple have now joined in with a 1.8m battery recall.

They reckon this mess is going to cost sony around £100m. I don't doubt it.

My Dell account manager told me that the total number of batteries that are affected is somewhere around 12m. I can't help but wonder how many gadgets I have at home with Sony batteries in them.

I've got two Aibos and two Sony cameras. The Aibos especially don't fill me with confidence. :(

100million for Apple
2-300 million for Dell

Sony don't have much in the way of money around at the moment anyway - this could be interesting. :D

They'd better hope the PS3 rollout is a success :p

Aren't they losing megabucks per console? Bye bye Sony?

Yup - could be as much at $600 per machine.

Add onto that the fact that as of yet - no working final production PS3 has been seen working - they are not in production yet - the Cell chip at it's heart has a 10% yield rate.

And my favourite.

They're including a BlueRay drive in every machine - but only the more expensive of the 2 machine specs is going to have the HCDP port needed to output in highdef. :D

Add to that the other area's where they are no longer making much in the way of dosh and Sony's position is looking very very shakey. :D

Good.

I've yet to own a piece of sony equipment that hasn't had to be replaced within 6 months.

3 minidisk players
2 tv *including 1 very expensive 32" surround sound job*
Several stereo's

Now...I buy Panasonic, Pioneer, Marantz and Technics and am yet to have a single one break down.

I've always had Sony stuff and can not recall a single problem with anything.

I'll get Piggy to check out the iBook tonight :/

Yep, we're affected too. Just filled it in their replacement form :)

From what I hear, Dell have been quoting 12 weeks for replacement batteries, and you have to send them back now. Sucks tbh. Hopefully Apple will be a little more friendly - good luck.

I've had an email stating 4 to 6 weeks and I get to keep the battery until the new one arrives :)

It depends which batteries. Some are quoted 20 working days, one particular model is currently 120 working days!

I received a whole bunch of replacements today along with prepaid packages for sending the old ones back.

Think it was a D800. Maybe I've misunderstood or something.

Ah but Sony AND MS have a bank hand deal with the AACS to allow HD content to be played in full, without a HDCP compliant port. This way MS can bring in a HD-DVD player & Sony can use their basic PS3 to play HD as well.

Cool. Did he take the old one away too?

Nice to get rid of the fire hazard, we don't want the orange glow discussed during the Kent meet to happen now, do we? :)
