The first movie featuring Morgan Freeman that I've seen, where at the end I could honestly say to myself that anyone could've played the role he did.
Probably. I haven't really bothered analysing performances that much, I figure it's the sort of film that would fall to pieces if deconstructed but for a mostly mindless couple of hours, it's good :D

Saw three today!
Quarantine
Superb. Had me on the edge of the seat with my hands virtually cupped over my eyes for the entire thing. The only gripe was that the ending was utter ****.
6/10 (Would have been a 8-9/10 with a better ending)
Zack & Miri make a Porno
Funny as hell. Quite a lot of boobs too, which is always a good thing ;D Nice storyline to it, which was executed very well.

2.5/10
We watched this and the instance it started I said "oh God... this is going to be a Cabin Fever in water isn't it?"... but due to being a true story we perserveered and wanted to see what happens.
I hear you here lady!!
The first thing Picky and I said was "if you can't reach the deck, make a rope". Five hours later they figure this one out.... and then send a whopping huge muscle man up it!! EGITS!
As for the woman swimming to shore - I was a bit WTF esque too... but apparently Picky felt she was aware of her fate. Still she's an idiot.
The whole ending too - we see the dude is on the deck face down (we don't know if he's dead but he's not moving). Now tbh, if he was dead, how the heck did she get him on board? It was a stormy night, he's 5 times the size of her and if he did drown, her jumping in, dragging him to the ladder, pulling him on board... well it just isn't going to happen.
Stupido.
Thing is... it wasn't as bad as Deep Blue. Deep Blue... was worse than Cabin Fever. Based on a true story buuuut..
... the only thing true from the film is the beginning when they go off on a boat with scuba people and get left behind!!
I cannot believe that I watched the WHOLE of Deep Blue of which 95% of it consisted of the two people in the water/their fights with sharks and storms etc.... only for them both to die.
I mean HOW DID THEY KNOW THESE THINGS HAPPENED IF NO BODIES WERE RECOVERED AND THEY BOTH DIED!!
N00bs!!
... was awful.
Anyway, yeh, not one to watch again.

Millers Crossing
Great acting, great script, great direction, great story in theory but... was there any point to it all? I just felt like all of the bad things that happened could have been easily avoided and the outcome was that things were worse than when they had started. I wanted to love this film all the way through, however i couldn't help but feel there was little point in the whole thing.
8/10
Needs a proper rating after a rewatch i feel.
The Dark Knight.
Finally got around to watching this and wasn't dissapointed. Heath Ledger creaped me out, his portrayal of The Joker was brilliantly done and kept to the comics idea of him. The ending though made it for me, my mum and sister were in tears at the end with the speech from Gary Oldman, have to say it was very moving.
9.5/10
Wanted.
Agree with Haly, good fun and watchable, would happily sit down and watch it a few more times. The bullets curving was pretty awesome.
Also agree about Morgan Freeman, while a good performance not one of his best by a long shot.

If you loved unforgiven, where do you stand on "The outlaw Josey Wales"?
A wrong answer may involve me putting a contract on your head.
"Dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy".
Absolutely classic Western movie and one of the first DVD's I bought.
But Clint is a legend, both Actorially and Directorially. It's often a beautiful sight when both come together (such as Bridges of Madison County and this of course).

Along Came a Spider too.
I did however really like Wanted and the fact that Morgan Freeman was in it was a plus even if he was too reserved, and arguably, too good, for that role, he's my favourite actor and I can't hold it against him.
Edit:
On the topic of Open Water 2... I can't believe they made a sequel! The first movie is THE worst I've ever seen. I honestly couldn't give it 1 out of 10 as everything that makes a good movie clearly eluded the director, writers and producers of this movie monstrosity.
I'm tempted to pick up Open Water tonight just to see how bad it is ;D

Sorry if it came across like I was going all "Sisko and Ebert", as that wasn't my aim. It is what it is, a few hours of good old fashioned entertainment, and I really enjoyed it. MY gripe was that Morgan Freeman is one of those actors who is always memorable even when the film he's in is not. With Wanted, I just thought it was a shame that he didn't "Freeman-ise" the role more.

Looking at other online reviews, apparently the first one is only remotely better because it isn't actually their stupidity which gets them into the situation.
Unlike the one I watched last night... grrr... annoyingly Jackie Brown was on tv.. but always finishes sooooo late!

I'll give it a shot I think if it's in :D Not like it'll cost me anything.
I've just finished watching Smart People with Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker. Interesting little film, it was labelled as a comedy drama, really it's a drama with some moments that make you smile rather than laugh. Nice portrayal of the human condition, so to speak, though. Little bit slow but I'd say gentle rather than slow. Also a surprisingly decent turn by Ellen Page who I didn't really rate after Juno.
7/10 seems about right to me. For those who liked Dan in Real Life, I'd particularly recommend this as it is quite similar.

He's brilliant in it for sure, and it often get's overlooked for the more 'classic' Man With No Name trilogy of Westerns he did (I also prefer Pale Rider to these). I think you're looking at Unforgiven, Bridges of Madison County and Josey Wales for his finest moments as an actor (and as fate would have it, director).
I will say Unforgiven is my favourite, but then, as I said, Morgan Freeman is my favourite actor.
One of his most overlooked movies is True Crime though, almost everyone I know hasn't seen that movie.

Not much can be said really, typical Rom Com, very predictable but it passed the time.
1/10 if you hate Rom Coms :p 6/10 if you like them.
Hancock
Not one of Will Smith's best but not bad. Seemed to be better the second time round as I knew it was going to be slightly more serious than usual superhero films. Not sure if I'd pay money for it though which is a pity as I did the first time round :p

Another agreement. Freeman was utterly wasted in the role, there was just nothing there for him to be able to do anything with. One thought I had but couldn't confirm"
Surely all the assassins were on the target list from the loom because Sloan was using them to kill innocents and thus causing harm?

Ghost Town
Just got home from my second viewing of it (not because I loved it and wanted it see it again... it was for other reasons :p)
Fantastic film. I think you see a slightly different side to Ricky Gervais in it too. The story seemed to be fairly well thought out and implemented well, although somewhat unbelievable :p

Surely you'd get a restraining order or something if you was in the womens shoes (her name escapes me) and there was a guy telling you that he was talking to your dead husband?

Baby Mama
Tad predictable and rather sentimental but another entertaining and sweet, mindless 90 minutes. Tina Fey plays a fairly likeable but desperately broody 30 something, also some nice cameos from Steve Martin and Sigourney Weaver. Greg Kinnear seems to be carving a nice niche as a romantic lead too. Which reminds me, I still need to see Little Miss Sunshine!

I enjoyed Baby Mama, I thought it was well acted between the two ex-SNL hosts. I also agree with Greg Kinnear, he was great in it, sure it was no 'As Good As It Gets' performance, but he was genuinely likeable as was Tina Fey (which I didn't think she would be).
Better than I was expecting for sure and certainly has more content to it than recent RomCom's such as 27 Dresses (ugh).

Doomsday
Starring Rhona Mitra Bob Hoskins David O'Hara Craig Conway
Post-apocalyptic style film
8/10 It's violent, it's cheesy, it's got glaring plot holes and it's not even particularly well acted but it is fun so provided you take it on it's merits it is worth the watch. This isn't a film that ever set out to be clever or stir the emotions, it is simple visceral entertainment. That and it features Rhona Mitra's arse prominantly, that's always a bit of a winner.

Rhona Mitra's arse made the film, without it, it would be another generic action.
Spotted a film with a crazy title, Kung Fu Panda. It's actually a Dreamworks film and is pretty damn funny. A star studded cast as well with Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jacky Chan and Lucy Liu. I knew this was going to be good when in the first few mins you get this line:-
He blinded his enemies with his awesomeness
That really had me cracking up. A good film and one I'll be watching again as there is bound to be tonnes of stuff I missed.
Its a big fat Panda doing Kung Fu alongside hardcore trained warriors.

Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman. I often get the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon series' mixed up, but Die Hard is still the best of the lot.
Quality and cheesy acting mixed beautifully with plenty of gratuitious violence.

Watched this last night and it's absolutely great :D How they manage to get so much character out of something that doesn't talk is amazing. When so many real films can be a big letdown, why is it you can always rely on the animation films to get it right?

7/10 A whole lot better than I was expecting, it's pretty oddball and the mind of whoever created it is surely a very disturbed place but very funny in places.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Starring Ron Perlman Selma Blair Doug Jones James Dodd

6/10 Not a terrible film but it was missing some of the humour and style of the original. It also features Luke Goss which is weird.
Shoot 'Em Up

I absolutely loved that film as the music and dancing was fantastic and the lead female was beautiful. It was much better than the first film too. I'd give it a 9/10 as, for me, I've never seen a better dancing movie.
Starship Troopers 2
What a completely utterly bizarre and random film! It was very VERY flakey! The things that didn't make sense was relentless. I was like "Eh!? How come he was crawling on the floor due to high winds and nearly being blown away and then the other trooper people jump over him and shoot some bugs? How come they weren't blown away?" kind of thing.
I think... it could have been a goodish film had they properly established the plot line and built more on the characters. The foundation was kind of there... it just was done pooply! You didn't get to know the characters and if you hadn't seen the first (which I haven't fully and what I have seen of it was years ago), it was a bit like "wtf? Where are they? Who are they fighting? Why? What's on?".
Poor. Poor acting, poor scripting, poor every-ma-fink.

This is a rare case where the third movie is actually better than the second, I was sooooooo disapointed with the second movie. In addition to your points the film is also filmed almost entirely in the dark which doesn't help what would have helped is if the entire screen had benn black for 90 minutes and the sound hadn't worked either because 90 minutes of nothing would be better than ST2 was.

I don't pay much for the movies I watch so for me it was worth a look, its a lot better than the second but not a patch on the first, if you were a big fan of the first I'd give it a look, its not big budget but the effects are a lot better than the second.

Eagle Eye (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059786/)
Enemy of the state for the 21st Century. Very gadgety and quite a fun film, some huge holes in the plot, some chains of events that simply have too many random elements to be planned, as you as a viewer are expected to believe they are... Some very simply options/activities in the film deliberately overlooked and ignored. Basically a remove brain before pressing play action movie for gadget fans... That said, for an action movie, IMO the action is particularly poorly shot, as some of it moves so quickly youre left wondering who just died in that car crash and who got shot, etc...
Still i enjoyed it, but that could be because im off work today in a Snow related (http://darrynreeder.com/images/Alloy/02122008084t.jpg) unplanned holiday, 6/10
Whilst folding cards and packing them today I watched a classic every woman always gasps at me for not seeing.
Dirty Dancing
*dons hockey goal keeper gear* In all honesty... it's a good film but nothing I would completely and utterly rave about. I can see the attraction of it - it has a cute story line and it's very idealistic and romantic, and there are some awesome dance moves going on. But (yes there's a but) the ending was a bit flat and I was kind of expecting more bulk to the build up to the main peoples romance! I was like "oh... okay!" It was evident she was gagging but I just didn't see him fall in love if you know what I mean :)
I can see why any girls could fall in love with it though as it is your perfeck love story :)
Acting wise I thought was pretty awesome! I find most films of that kind of age a little bit wooden but I thought Patrick Swayzeeeeeee did an awesome job! It's quite amazing how he can break out some of those moves in such tight pants without grimacing!!
Maybe it's because I'm not a girly girl girl that I didn't appreciate it 100% and the added fact I wasn't paying enough attention whilst folding/counting/packing cards :)
Still, it was good and enjoyable and I'd watch it again! Very much a Sunday afternoon film with hot chocolate, cake and a duvet!
7/10
Also watched (I've been dealing with a big order today so muchos folding)...
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Forgot how much this film makes me chuckle - especially Rowan Atkinson! The characters are awesome and the story is fantastic!! It's a good pace, it's entertaining, it's romantic and yet not sickly so and just top notch.
Have to admit, I think it's a once a year/every two year film but I liked it!
If you haven't seen this and you don't appreciate Hugh Grants typical styled character (floppy hair, an air of arrogance, dry humour, posh-stuttery accent and the fact he's made out to be some God for Women...) don't watch it, you'll hate it :p
It's your olden day Love Actually :)

Dirty Dancing (see above)
A good ending to a mediocre movie, IMHO.
I love Four Weddings and a Funeral :) Great film. Love the scene with John Hannah reading the poem at the funeral despite being incredibly sad.
Dirty Dancing's never appealed to me one bit so doubt I'll ever get round to seeing it.

7/10 Not a particularly easy watch and certainly not a feel good film in the conventional sense. Good performances though and there's a slight message of hope in there.

 and  again. How did you manage that? I thought it was obligatory for all females to watch this film and Grease before the age of 12 at the risk of being excommunicated from the flock that is womanhood. From what I've seen of Dirty Dancing you aren't missing much but I'm stunned you've managed to miss it entirely.

Though I love musicals. I'm just one big thespian at heart with things like that.
This year I've managed to watch two films I have been told I'm a disgrace for never seeing: Top Gun and Dirty Dancing. I feel whole!
Disturbia.
A remake of Rear Window. Kind of.
Not a bad film, some daft moments and not a patch on the Hitchcock version. Still, would happily watch it again even though Shia LaBeouf seems to playing similar roles all the time.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth (the newest one)
Enjoyable little family film. Brendan Fraser plays nearly the exact same character as in The Mummy but he does it well so that's fine. Wouldn't spend much money on it but a decent way to spend 90mins or so when you want something mindless but entertaining :)

The Baader-Meinhof Complex
Starring Martina Gedeck Moritz Bleibtreu Johanna Wokalek Nadja UhlFilm about the terrorist group
8/10 It's a long film but it tells the story well, good performances by the actors. It does feel slightly bitty even with a run time of 150 odd minutes but it's a very large subject to fit into even that runtime so it would be churlish to hold that against it too much. It is in German with English subtitles and a complex film (no pun intended) so not one to watch if you aren't willing to concentrate. That said, it is the most attractive terrorist group I've ever seen and watching from todays perspective it seems almost stunning how prevalent smoking was.
The Mummy - Tomb Of The Emperor Dragon
If you enjoyed the first 2 Mummy movies then you should enjoy this, it's just like the other 2 but instead of Rachel Weisz it's Mario Bello who isn't as good. Still an enjoyable movie though.

I saw it at the cinema and thought it was absolutely awful. Loved the first two Mummy films but all this one had was huge quantities of badly done CGI and lots of average action scenes. It completely lacked all the humour that the first two had. I was hugely disappointed by it :(

You Don't Mess With The Zohan.
First off, it's an Adam Sandler movie, so if you can't stand him chances are you won't like this. His movies are hit and miss to me, luckily this was one of the good ones, very funny and had me literally laughing out loud at times.
Basic premise is, Sandler plays a top Israeli counter terrorist called Zohan who is fed up of the fighting and just wants to go to America to be a hairdresser. If you like Adam Sandler movies then watch this, it also has a few cameos from famous people and of course the usual lot are always in his movies.

I saw this at the weekend. I pretty much agree with what you've said, and although parts were funny I found some of the characters too abrasive. I had no sympathy for the Seth character whatsoever and although he gets most of the pratfalls it never really feels like he gets his just desserts. More like the cat that got the cream.
**** me, I should write for Empire with gold like that!
Edit: Oh yeah, 6/10. Could have been an amazing classic coming of age film but they made it too vulgar with too much of a disjointed story. Some very funny bits though, and great performances.

A couple of quick ones from me:
Quarantine
The worst parts of 28 days later & The blair witch project put together - two films that in their own right are superb.
Terrible film, boring plotline, doesn't go anywhere, very predictable.

Max Payne
Was expecting to love this film, was expecting it to be action packed like the game.
Was a little let down, however still a good storyline IMHO and the filming was acceptable.
Surprised about some of the cast, but was all good.
Could have been a little more gripping

Lakeview Terrace
Trust me, take a pillow if you plan on seeing this one, you'll be asleep within half an hour.
Does get into the "action" quite quickly, but the action just happens to be actionless.
Sammy L doesn't play a great part, the plot is thin and the reasoning behind the characters motives are just stupid.
This film could be shortened into a half hour episode of brookside.
I'd like to say the only saving grace of it was Sammy L being in it, but even that's a let down.

Much better than I was expecting, primarily as you start to care about both Zack and Miri as characters and that's something I wasn't expecting from this kind of film. There's also clearly a great camaraderie amongst the group making it much more believable than most other comedies similar to this.

9/10 I think it was the first time I'd ever watched the film right through yet I sort of knew almost exactly what would happen throughout, that's the level of impact on pop culture this film has had and I found myself sniggering at some of the lines now recognising exactly where they come from. Simply a great film, some of the effects may look a bit dated now but it hasn't lost its power.
The Dark Knight
Still brilliant :) It is a shame now that I know exactly what's going to happen so miss out on a few twists but I still hugely enjoyed it, and it held my attention for the whole 140 mins which isn't bad going considering I usually have a crap attention span :D I do wish I could watch it with my memory of the film erased though so everything's new and exciting again.

I haven't seen the original I'm somewhat ashamed to admit but I can't imagine all that well is the simple answer. They do have a GORT in the film but it's at least 50ft tall and CGI, I don't want to give too much more away in case anyone else does want to watch it though.

Just watched Wall-E on blu ray (720p). Can't compare picture quality to a normal release as I've only seen it in the cinema, but what I can say is the quality is fantastic  no blurring, not flickering, but spot on.
As others have said, quite a slow start but there are plenty of chuckles throughout and still the not OTT environmental message. Wonderful story, beautifully told.
Watched this on BluRay, lights off, speakers up and from start to finish i was glued to the screen. I went into this movie knowing nothing about it, not even seen the trailer and it went from sad beginning to all the lights glitter in the middle and then a very touching finale. All sprinkled with loving moments through out the movie, I haven't been this impressed with an animated feature since Toy Story 2, but even that wasn't as touching as Wall-E. Who knew a character with no dialogue can convey across so much emotion with those lenses for eyes?

Death Race (2008)
A remake of the original, although having never seen the original I can't comment on how it holds up against it.
Basically the US economy collapses in 2012 and anarchy starts to rule. Private corporations take over the prisons to make a profit. 1 such prison starts hosting Death Fights between inmates and broadcasts them live to the world. Once people start getting bored they host Death Races. If you can survive and win 5 races you go free.
Pretty mindless but good fun, it stars Jason Statham so that pretty much tells you what kind of film it is.

The Eye (Jessica Alba)
A Hollywood remake, never seen the original and even without reference, this is still pap. It started off okay but then soon as she start on her crusade on finding out the truth and helping the dead girl the suspense goes out the window and it stopped being a horror movie.
p.s. Instead of a horror movie, she actually had superpowers in a way, the fact that she can see who is going to die about a minute before, that would be a superpower in comic books !

Urgh.. what a decidedly average-at-best movie that was. Mr Jackson played the same loud, better-than-thou character he routinely plays. Anak.. Hayden Christensen proved that the wooden acting from the two Star Wars prequel films he was in really is just the way he acts. Jamie Bell did a fair job but didn't get a chance to shine, I think he'd have done a better job than Hayden as lead. The whole movie just felt like one big set up for the sequel. I actually watched this again not that long ago whilst on a plane, and just thought "Meh"

Worth watching although it took at least half an hour to grab me, 35 minutes to be precise :p
The women will be pleased as there are plenty of gratuitous 6 pack shots/scenes. The action scenes although good were done to brisk & heavy editing although smooth took away from what was actually going on.
One of those films that passes an hour & a half pleasant enough but doesn't have any content to get inside you & make it memorable.

Black Christmas (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454082/)
So here's the deal, I have watched a lot of Horror movies, A LOT. I was one of them VHS kids in the early 80's who's Dad could always get his hands on the banned copies of The Burning, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left, Evil Dead et al. Many a winters afternoon spent watching movies instead of studying. So by no means an expert, I have certainly put a good shift in over the years to appreciate this genre.
Black Christmas is a remake of a 1974 slasher horror movie. The story is that the neighbourhood maniac escapes from the local loony bin to return home for Xmas. Except his house has been turned into a frat house. Xmas he decides to knock them all off one by one. The 2006 version sticks pretty much sticks with the same story.
However this is where the twist(or lack of it) comes into it. It takes the whole 70's slasher flick and transform it Scream style and fail miserably. I mean how on earth can you mess up the classic psycho slasher flick. The film is entirely predictable. No scares there are no figures looming in the shadows. It doesn't goto the other end of the scale with wanton blood shed either. This is a poor poor movie that get's it wrong on so many levels. Nay every level. I would suggest the producer watch some of the old classics to understand the rules of the game.

The Dish
A great, mostly true, story about the 4 laid back men that operate a radio telescope, situated in the middle of a sheep farm in a tiny Australian town. Their task over the coming days will be to track the lunar module of Apollo 11 as it passes over the Southern hemisphere and finally, to broadcast video of the first ever moonwalk across the globe. This film was just bursting with character, i loved every moment, the story it tells is surprisingly exciting too; it wasn't the smoothest of operations to say the least. Towards the end there's heavy use of real footage from the moon landing that just left me speechless, i'd never seen so much detail just 'that' clip.

In Bruges
One of the funniest films i've seen in years. It's a very difficult film to describe, but i would compare it, in a way, to Pulp Fiction. The majority of this film uses a very similar mechanic to that of Jules and Vincent, where you have two very dangerous men, stuck in a normal every day situation having normal conversations. It works brilliantly. The humor doesn't pull any punches, with copious amounts of fat jokes, midget jokes and violence. The acting is top notch, i won't list the actors and i suggest you don't look it up on IMDB, one of them in particular is best left as a nice surprise when you finally see his face.
9/10.
Off the back of this thread I finally put on Wall-e. Simply outstanding visuals and brilliant sound. Recently I've watched stuff on my amp + speaker setup that just sounded .... well flat. I clicked the system on and was simply blown away, it really really brought the surround to life. A brilliant first film to watch with the tv :) Now I need the PJ setup :D
Although there are no words per-say, there's enough. It is refreshing to have something come out that has nice finishing touches. Oh, and the film finished at 11.50pm...... the sound was cranked, ooooops. Still the neighbours had people round or were up :D

Michelle Trachtenberg (God I would kill to be with her!) and Lacey Chabert (Insanely hawt!) are in it, ergo, movie = awesome.

Absolutely brilliant! (and I'm not only saying that because I like AJ ;)) but the performances were amazing - especially those of the kids. The film is quite long but there is always something happening.

Out For Justice
Starring Steven Seagal William Forsythe Jerry Orbach Jo ChampaIt's a Seagal film, what do you expect?
6/10 It's cheesy, it's entertaining and you won't have to think too hard at any point, perfect for winding down after Christmas. Some great/crap lines in it to smile to as well.
Alien vs Predator - Requiem
Starring Steven Pasquale Reiko Aylesworth John Ortiz Johnny LewisThe sequel to the lamentable first.
5/10 It's rubbish but it's infinitely better than the first, you still don't feel the Aliens or Predator are scary or that the acting is up to much but I've seen worse and it is the festive season so it gets pass marks.
30 Days of Night
Starring Josh Hartnett Melissa George Danny Huston Ben FosterVampire film
7/10 Surprisingly good, I may have to reconsider my previously stated position that Josh Hartnett is Keanu Reeves' successor in the school of wooden acting. He's not great still but quite passable, it's also one of the better horror films I've seen in a long time, there's not a huge amount of tension but it is entertaining, doesn't have a typical ending and features the best use of a snowplough I've ever found.
Twilight
I REALLY liked this film :) the casting was spot on, didn't think there was anyone who didn't deliver a rubbish performance.

7/10
Good film but I can't help feeling it was a missed opportunity. The effects were OK but not startling and the story certainly wasn't as good as the original version. The kid was irritating, Reeves was wooden, even beyond what you'd expect from an alien and the ending was a bit "sudden" leaving at least one unanswered question - what was the price the human race would pay for its survival.

I've seen trailers for the film for months, but still have absolutely no clue what the story is about in the slightest.

X-Files: I Want To Believe.
After finally finishing off season 9 last night I started watching this hoping for loose ends to be tied up. No chance. It's basically a 1 1/2 hour standalone episode :( Does nothing for the continuation of the mytharc and in actual fact, not a great plot.

I liked it! Admittedly, it was just a "long" episode but it was a good storyline. However, I'd say 6.5/10 as a full-price cinema movie and I wouldn't have paid cinema prices with hindsight. The prices are now so high that it's entering the equation when objectively reviewing a movie. £7.05 per adult plus over a fiver for a nachos combo meal. That's the best part of £30 for a couple to see a film :(

How much? I only ever go Orange Wednesday but even at peak rate, one ticket is only about £6. Never buy food there as it's a total rip off and not usually overly nice anyhow, I either don't eat anything in the cinema or take some chocolate with me.
So it can be quite inexpensive if you're careful :)
I liked The X-Files film too, I was pleased to see it had none of the mythology stuff in it as I found it grew a bit tiresome after 9 seasons worth.
I loved the X-files file, the fact it had been produced as a "monster of the week" style film only gave it plus points for me

Me and Mrs Dym went to see this the weekend before Chrimble and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. It was slightly let down by the blue filter all the way through (was meant to make it look stylistic, but instead made it seem washed out all the time) and the fact that the vampires were about as scary as Pee Wee Herman :p
And Cedric is v sexy :D
You mean Spamhead?
Seriously, he had a blimp for a head with a little bit of hair stuck to the top and completely CGI eyes!
His spam, I believe, gave Dawson 'SPAMHEAD' Leery's a run for its money!
And the fantastic piece of acting when he first saw Bella, the look was:
You make me so angry, so furious, so insensed with rage that I'M GOING TO LOOK LIKE I WANT TO THROW UP!
Class :p
Still thoroughly enjoyed the film though :D

Don't you think though, that unless it's based on a TV show that was done on a small budget then it's impossible to think otherwise of any big screen to small screen crossover?

It depends really but I guess it's subjective - sometimes a film just seems "episodic" as though there will be another one along with the same basic premise, as though it's "templated" from some sort of cookie-cutter. A film will tend to have a more complex plot, more of an emphasis on the emotional content and the "mechanics" such as the actual acting, the score and production values, etc.
Incidentally, apologies Wossi - I didn't intend to pick your review apart :o

Ha ha! OK another... adding to JSB's review of:
Transporter 3
Please please!! Somebody stop him making these films!!! The first one was good, the second ok, but this one... diabolical and not helped by the following...
JS fishing, impossible stunt, pecs, annoying girl, pecs, impossible stunt, explosion, annoying girl, totally unecessary and cringeworthy 'love scene', pecs, explosion (repeat several times) JS fishing.
Frank would sooooooo not go for a broad like that?! OMG she was sooo ****ing annoying... I was |---| this close to walking out because of her!
Was glad it finished. Could have been about 30mins shorter with her scenes edited out.
T Bag from Prison Break was in it though and a good baddie.
I've told Rob to ditch the Fiat Coupe and get an Audi. The Fiat takes 2hrs to recover from damp, but the Audi took about 20mins to recover from full submersion in a lake. Superb!
In a nutshell (lol) easy no brainer (certainly) explosion and man muscles (though he's getting a bit old now - baldy?!) film.
Just don't pay money to watch it ;)

Pretty good, by Danny Boyle though somehow i'd never even heard of it til two days ago. Typical sci-fi plot though provokes some interesting thoughts about religion and how you would act in the same position towards the end.

Burn After Reading
Typical Coen Brothers really, pretty good film up until the point it finishes. I swear these guys have ADHD or something and cant be bothered to finish their films properly before they start the next one. There was easily another 20 minutes of decent movie here but they tied it up with one conversation with a frankly cop out ending and it tainted the film a bit for me.
Up until that point though, quite amusing, Pitt and Clooney play their characters quite well and I don't think i've ever seen Malkovich say 'what the ****?' so much.
7/10, would have been 8/10 if they finished it properly.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Not one of Will Ferrell's best movies. Some of the best bits in it are because of Gary Cole and he's not in it that much. This is, in my opinion, not on a par with most of his movies, it didn't really make me laugh as much as it could have done and the worn out clichés annoyed me.

Blade Runner - The Final Cut
Just as a little addition - was on a professionally installed and calibrated Panasonic Plasma screen *one of these (http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronics/plasma_central/103plasma/default.asp) - I WANT!* and about £60k's worth of 7.2 surround sound kit too.
It may be over 20 years old but it still manages to make me grin like a loony every time I watch this. It's definitely in my top 10 films of all time ever. The Final Cut just polishes it to a beautiful luster and the treatment it got on the Hi-def formats is frankly beautiful - especially the cityscape effects shots *apparently scanned from the original negatives at 8k resolution  *
Still - going to see it at the Imax mid January so I get to see it on a huger screen. :D

Kari and I sat down to watch this one this evening. I saw it several months ago, and loved it, but Kari had never seen it. It is an incredibly beautiful and touching film, superbly acted by all players. John Cusack plays a recently (well.. 2 years) widowed sci-fi author named David who ends up adopting a very, very bizarre kid named Dennis who believes he's from Mars.
The film is deeply touching and covering David and Dennis's relationship. Can't really say too much without giving the plot away, but it's highly worth watching.

Blade Runner - The Final Cut
I didn't like the final cut tbh. There were several shot 'errors' that didn't previously exist, such as a scene where rutger haur is talking to someone with his back to the camera, but you can just about see his mouth and it isn't moving according to whats being said. Also, the music added in the final scene as Deckard jumps was cheesy and didn't fit the mood of the film at all, it belonged in an action movie, not blade runner. Ontop of that they removed the unicorn scene, the only scene that was really sold proof that deckard is a replicant .
On top of that, several scene transitions just didn't work as well as they used to, the best example is when deckard is about to get his eyes poked out and then the female replicant (forget her name) saves him by shooting the bad guy (also forget name), it used to have a short death scene and then a good transition to deckards apartment, in the final cut it's just 'BANG! NEW SCENE!'
Its still one of the best films ever made, but i'll be watching the second to final cut on bluray next time i feel the need to watch blade runner.

Nothing we havne't seen countless times. Set in the future, Vin Diesel is a smuggler hired to take a girl from Serbia to New York. Cue all manner of things happening on the way to let Vin get a chance at fighting and shooting. Reminded me a little of 5th Element, but without the humour. Totally coincidentally because I've not been in this thread for ages.
Last night, Mrs. Feek and I watched.
Blade Runner (The Final Cut)
I bought this for Mrs. Feek for Christmas last year (2007, not 2008) and we've only just got round to watching it.
I've never seen Blade Runner before. Although I need to add a caveat to that. I tried to watch it once before when Mrs. Feek was in labour with LMF so that was around fifteen years ago and we kept having breaks and so I never really paid much attention to the film. I've never felt the urge to try and watch it again since so it was with some trepidation that we put it on last night.
It was OK. I don't understand why it's got the reputation it has, it seemed a pretty typical Science Fiction film to me, it was enjoyable but I can't see the "best film ever made" stuff that one hears about it. Yes it was beautifully shot and looked fantastic but I felt a bit 'meh' afterwards.
One thing I couldn't understand though and I'll put this in Spoiler tags just in case.
Why did Deckard run away from Roy at the end? He's supposed to be a super duper Blade Runner and it just seemed out of character to leg it, especially as he still had the gun at the time
Oh yes and Deckard is obviously a replicant, how else would the plod dude know that he dreamed about Unicorns unless those memories had been implanted?
Streeteh

To your first spoiler
Deckard ran because he shot at Roy twice who simply dodged the bullets, whether he was fast enough to actually dodge the pysical bullets or simply had good enough reactions to get out of Deckards sights at the last second i'm unsure. Like humans, replicants are each different and achieve different levels of greatness, just before Roy kills Tyrell he refers to him as 'one of the greatest'. This to me indicates Roy is a fluke, an accidental breakthrough, a good indication of this is the fact he is firstly the leader of the replicants and secondly hes smarter, stronger and faster than the others (hence his ability to essentially 'dodge bullets').
I reckon they didn't make Deckard super strong like them as they were letting him loose among the populous, if something went wrong he may end up being as much of a threat to the general public as the other replicants. They simply used a replicant to hunt them mainly because if he was killed, it wouldn't be a human that died and therefore less of a problem.

Why does everyone not like this film?! It made me lol a lot and I thought it was pretty darn awesome! Will Smith, as usual, does a fab job!
Maybe I just like Mr Smith too much to not dislike it... and maybe it's because I love super heros too much that I couldn't dislike it too... but yeh. Good all rounder super hero film! The Iron Man
Heh... yes... another super hero filum ;D Loved it again. Nice to see Miss Paltrow in the movies again... seems like an age since I last saw her in a filum (I LOVE Sliding Doors... must find and watch it again to make sure I do really love it and am not just imagining things). ANyway, back to Iron Man, it's over the top, most stuff is nigh on impossible and it's fairly obvious what's going to happen. But it's fun, it has a sense of humour and has cool wickedo action scenes which are awesome as well as funky gadgets. Characters are lovable (although I think they need more building on) and by the end of the film, due to a couple of hints throughout you are thinking "oooo... is there a sequel? I hope so... wikipedia time - woo woo!" (I believe there is so in May 2010 - looks like I have my Birthday evening planned already ;D)
I reckon a second will be awesome. As said, we need to see more about the characters and watch where their direction goes... maybe that was the whole reason they did the film like they have... so people will be enticed to go see the second? I feel like... this movie was a long introduction to everyone!

I would have said higher but Xmen does get the hands down followed by spidey man when push comes to shove so it needs to be lower down than them.
Pheebs, did you kepp watching after the credits? If not, you need to as there is a slight sneek peek at what is coming up. Same with the new hulk film.

Maybe its cos I didnt really know the story / characters until watching the filum but I didnt think I was going to like Robert Downey Jr. being him after watching the first 10 mins; but he actually slotted really well into it! Great film.

I don't understand either. My mate told me it was a load of pap but I've seen it twice now and I thought it was quite a good film. Nice little twist on the whole superhero thing I think.

"A young married couple becomes stranded at an isolated motel and finds hidden video cameras in their room. They realize that unless they escape, they'll be the next victims of a snuff film."
Really surprised by this one tbh.
No budget to speak of, but worth watching IMHO.
It does what it should do, makes you jump in a couple of places, makes you actually give a crap about the characters that are in peril while making you want the "bad guys" to be on the receiving end of some justice.
The acting wasn't a let down, nor was the storyline and it's definitely been one of the better horror/shocker movies I've seen recently.

9/10 There's not too much to say, it is almost certainly the best martial arts film ever made and deserves all the plaudits it has received. It looks a little dated now and there's no wire work so it may be less visually impressive than some more recent martial arts epics but the fighting is simply brilliant.

Just watched The Incredibles for the first time.
Probably the first Pixar-esque movie I've seen where it was as close to being a conventional movie as it's possible to be. If you squint you could even convince yourself it was all shot in the conventional way using real actors+sets.
Score?
Think of how you scored "Toy Story" then subject either zero, or half a point if you're picky.
Great movie.

Starship Troopers on Bluray.
Starring: Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey
Space war movie really - earth finds big bugs, tries to kill big bugs, big bugs kick earths arse, earth goes for another go....
Watched this primarilly to see if a 10 year old big CGI based film could still look good today. It does. Paul Verhoven did a superb job with the effects in this film - there's only a couple of times where it looks ropey and then it's only for a couple of seconds. The bugs themselves still look wonderful.
I really like this film though, it's not quite a 'brain off' action film but it works really well. Some people say it's an anti-war film - I don't see that really, but it's not a pro war film either.
Comparing this to the other main Alien film that was out in the same year... Alien Resurrection... this pisses all over it from a huge height. The CGI effects still hold up really well whereas in Resurrection they seem dodgy even on the DVD release.
Also, when they were released at the cinema - Starship Troopers was a 15 and Alien Resurrection was an 18. I always though this was the wrong way round as Starship Troopers is a surprisingly violent movie and Resurrection wasn't - VHS releases arrived a year later - Starship Troopers is the 18 and Resurrection was the 15.
Overall I'd give Starship Troopers 8/10 just for pure entertainment value. *but give number 2 and 3 a miss as they SUCK. ;)*

She's 40. So yes :p.
(I LOVE Sliding Doors... must find and watch it again to make sure I do really love it and am not just imagining things). Great film, one of my favourite romcoms.
and by the end of the film, due to a couple of hints throughout you are thinking "oooo... is there a sequel? I hope so... wikipedia time - woo woo!" (I believe there is so in May 2010 - looks like I have my Birthday evening planned already ;D)
Did you spot the terrorists group was called the "Ten Rings"? That's a fairly big hint there for a future film, plus of course you'll have War Machine for certain.
Along with next Iron Man film you've got Captain America and Thor all in production / casting, you've got a reasonable Avengers line up. I don't see any indication of The Wasp or AntMan film, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't be in The Avengers. Stark appeared in the latest Hulk film talking about the Avengers intiative so I'm guessing Hulk'll be in the line up (he was initially in the comic books anyway)

Wanted
Maybe a film that is best left for the big screen rather than a 7" LCD on an airplane but really wasn't impressed. The action sequences smacked of yet another Matrix rip off, the story line was merely filler and James McAvoy didn't do himself proud.

The Dish
Umm. Okay? It was an all right film, acting was good but it just seemed to be missing the simple idea of something happening. All the characters were two dimensional and utterly predictable, the exchanges were predictable and the drama almost non-existant. The only really cool thing was the archive clips.
Oh no, we've lost tracking. Oh no we found it again.
Oh no Geek is in love with beautiful girl but is too scared to say anything to her. Oh no, someone gives him advice and he finally gets the nerve up to ask her in a predictable stammer and finds she likes him too.
Oh no, THE WIND! Lawks a lawdy, the wind! Oh no.. no, it's okay, the dish moved. The attempts to build up suspense at that stage was decidedly laughable.
I think "Charming" would be the best description.

Kate Winslet is amazing in this very emotionally charged and hard hitting film. I wasn't sure if i was enjoying it until half way through. Then something clicked and from then on i was enthralled. Definitely not a light film and not one i would watch again soon.
Reduced me to tears at one point which is always a sign of how much i enojoyed it, i don't cry at just any film. Wall.E had no effect on me at all.
7/10 Wonderfully acted by all, great story.
Pirates of The Carribean.
I think you all are pretty much aware of my feelings for this film.
I can't get enough of him it.
;D
Seriously though, if you've not seen this film it's truly fantastic! Full of pillaging scallywags, wenches, spankingly stupendous sword scenes, twists and turns in the tale and just general banter and hubbub :) I begrudingly have to admit that despite Keira Knightley could win Miss Pout Queen of The Universe (in this film), her depiction of the wanna-be-pirate-come-govenors-daughter is pretty much spot on. (There's only one other person I think would suit the role a million times over and that's me.**) Orlando Bloom somewhat irritates me in this... not massively but I can feel a slight twitch or cringe in some scenes bumbling inside me. I think for the script though he is well suited and overall does a superb job!
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow (yes yes, he needs a paragraph to himself) is a GOD. I don't know how Mister Depp does it but every character he seems to play he makes them all so unique in their own little ways. His acting is... top class. Captain Jack Sparrow really steals the show in this though with his conniving and genius/insane pirate ways. Plus he's an incredibly *insert whatever word you think I may be thinking* ;) :D What's amazing though, despite being so darn HAWT in the film, he doesn't detract from the storyline as such.. as in... you don't just sit there staring at him and ignoring all else which is going on. Unless you put it on pause.
*ahem*
Anyway!
It's just... all of it... it's such a brilliant tale. It's so captivating and brilliantly produced, filmed and acted! On top of that, the scenery is truly gorgeous and somewhat magical and the costume design is superb... everything just looks so authentic! Might have something to do with watching this in HD but it's just so bright and colourful and enticing!
It's not just a bog standard film... it keeps you on your toes :)
Fantastic family film, though I think it's suitable for anyone!
WATCH IT!

[In reference to pirates of the Caribbean] Aye, it was a great film, the second one was ok and the third was an abomination. Such a shame.
[In reference to equilibrium] Utterly sublime film. One of my favorite action flicks ever.
PotC suffers a bit from the Matrix syndrome. One great standalone film followed by a highly confusing, overlong two-parter. If I was a little kid that had sat and enjoyed the first film I would have been pretty restless watching the others. Even as an adult I found the second too twisty-turny and the third almost philosophically macabre.

Apologies to the Twilight fans (BBx & Mr& Mrs Dym) but here are my opinions.
Decided to go to the pictures last Sunday with Kelleeeeeeeeeeeeee before I headed out to Egypt. Had a look in the paper and decided on Twilight - I figured that anything with vampires in it should be all right - big mistake. Instead of being a vampire flick, it turned out to be a teen romance with some implausibly nice vampires in it - what a pile of tosh :( Smiley Queen was happy but then, she's soppy :p
The movie gets a 3/10 from me - partly because teen romance flicks aren't my thing but mostly because it was truly dire.
I think Nokkon meant that despite there was good acting it wasn't all that as a filum :)
Hummm diggity about Twilight... heard mixed reviews :/ Think it's gonna be a wait until it's on doovd and then watch it job :)

Not sure of the relevance of that Nokkon, it's two different actors playing different characters in two different films - both Oscar nominated and both critically acclaimed. I can think that Hugh Grant is brilliant in one film, whereas Kate Blanchett is great in another. Doesn't detract from the other. Why compare those two?
Exactly as BBx said, they play on-the-edge characters, people rave about POTC for many reasons, Depp being the main one, but I've seen that sort of 'lunacy' done in many films and don't understand why PotC is so highly rated because of it, because that's without a doubt the main part of the film. Nothing else is really that special about it, or am I just missing something every time?
I really didn't get on with PoTC2. Loved the first one, good blend of comedy and story, generally good acting all around. Twists but not too much as to leave you going "Huh?"
Second one just felt to me too much like the script writers said "What would be cool.. I know, giant hamster ball" then figured out how to write it in, and so on. Just one long string of bizarre fight and stunt sequences with some way too twisty plot shoved in a the last minute for glue. I haven't bothered to watch the third one to tidy everything up because the second one felt such I mess I just didn't care. I know Belmit compared it to the Matrix, and I see where he's coming from, but I have to say even after the second Matrix film I actually wanted the answers.

I very much agree with you on POTC2 that it just felt like a gigantic amount of filler, they knew they were doing a third film already so just went with 'this might be vaguely entertaining but leave you wasting 2+ hours on not getting any sodding answers'.
I actually bought the third one because it was fairly cheap but I've not watched it yet as I'm not sure I want to risk another 150 odd minutes on something that may or may not tie everything up.

Cloverfield
Had this to watch for some time now but never got around to it. Popped it on last night and although it started pretty slowly, once it got going I thought it was quite a good film. The style was different to most films out there which added to the something new and it was one of those "what would I do" type of films. But then came the end...and well...that was it. THE END!!! Weird. And it's only for the ending that my score dropped so low.

Pheebs/Knip - Snow Cake currently available on iplayer as it was a BBC Films production.
Oooh thanks Mubsy! And Jamie! :D
Just Cause
Just watched this whilst plugging away at the ironing pile. Originally I recorded it thinking it was a court room style film I saw a while back and enjoyed but it turned out to be something different (which is annoying me now as I don't have a clue what film I was thinking of in the first place :p).
It's all about a young, intelligent chap (Blair Underwood) who has been convicted of the rape and murder of a child in a small, close knit community. Awaiting death row, he calls upon a professor of law (Sean Connery), to prove his innocence in the case.
The plot itself is a good one. The film, however, is slightly slow and I think this would make a few people turn it off after the initial 20mins. But, if you hang on in there it turns out to be a fairly edible film (in food terms - we'd be speaking of a supermarket version of a Indian take out. Tasty and a slight treat, but not quite as good as the real deal). As legendary as Sean Connery is... he's waaaaaaay too ancient for the part! His wife and daughter in the filum... well when I saw them I thought it was his daughter and grand-daughter! Either he needed to be swapped for someone else or they needed to be older! I think they thought the attraction of Sean Connery would sweep in a larger audience. Fatal error!
Still, overlooking the poor casting in that direction, the rest seem to fit in perfectly, with Blair Underwood as the convicted, Laurence Fishburne as the local Sheriff in charge of the case and Ed Harris as a mad man psychopath (he's brilliant in fact - very convincingly mental!)
It's a decent thriller/law investigation with a couple of twists which make it all that more intriguing to watch. It's not a shade on the likes of Silence of the Lambs or The Client, but very watchable and fulfilling. I didn't realise until the end that it was actually based on a book by John Katzenbach - my betting would be that this is a much better read than the film itself. Knowing this too kind of explains it's pace and some empty holes in the line (you felt more investigation and stirring needed to be done at some points and now I've realised they probably cut out all that palava to keep it the right length for a film).
I will most probably give it a few months until the films a bit foggy in the memory and find the book myself and give that a bash. Think it would be worth it.
As said... it was good, well acted (despite the poorly casted Sean Connery) and I thought the filming was well directed too.
If it's on... I would say watch it, but only if you're in the mood to give it time to get into the swing of things.
5.5/10 possibly 6... unsure :)
