Val Kilmer
Stephen Dorph
Nadia from 24
Prison drama - pretty good stuff.
I enjoyed - the emotional breakdown of a regular man.
Wife enjoyed - Fighting in the yard.
Overall 7/10, good story, well worth a watch, it was low budget, but when you have good actors, it shows money dosent matter.

Starring
Colin Farrell
Brendan Gleeson
Ralph Fiennes
Very black crime comedy.
Good film, entertaining without getting too heavy and some great one liners although if you are easily offended you may not like it.
8/10, maybe even a little bit higher. I don't know how it would stand to repeat watchings but I'm glad I got round to watching it since I missed it at the cinema.

I really enjoyed In Bruges, Colin Farrell is a much better actor than people give him credit for, theres a similar film he is in that he was brilliant, with Ewan McGregor called Cassandras Dream, well worth tracking down if you havent seen it.

Cheers, I'll try and keep that in mind. The only problem is that I've got an awful lot of films on my to watch list. :)
You thought Cassandra's Dream was good?
Saw it at the cinema not long ago and I thought it was awful! So cliched and it didn't go anywhere that wasn't incredibly predictable, and the accents.......aaaaaaargh! Waste of talent imo and Woody Allen's worst film yet.

Everything of mine is taken over by recent events, Sorry guys.
I watched Rambo with my mate Friday night, It was the last thing we did together. Film was Ok but we talked over most of it & just watched the loud bits.
Out of 10 I'd give it a 4.
I've also seen that Assasin movie with Lara Croft Doris & him out of Shameless. What's going on with his voice  I fell asleep through this as I watched it alone ;D Gets a 2 out of 10 from me.
Also seen that Adulthood recently & the other one. I quite liked these films of the Chav hoodys running around being twats it made me laugh & was more like a comedy. I'll give the pair a 6 out of 10.
The New Mummy film was complete crap not even worth commenting on, Dodgey lead male, Dodgey Lead Doris, Complete crap Minus 10 for that pile of poop ;D

Wanted is the one. I quite liked it for the easy brainless action although I did have some objections to it in the way it seemed to set up the physics of its World and then broke them - I'm usually entirely happy to suspend disbelief and buy into whatever level of reality the film sets but I dislike it when the film then reneges on that.
The Blues Brothers
Awesome film, probably the best musical ever and from back in the days when Dan Akroyd was still funny.
I've been buying the £3 and £4 DVDs from Tescos lately and have a huge pile of them that I've watched over the past couple of weeks....
Gone With The Wind
Beautiful. But sooooo long! 8/10 mostly because it's a stunning film and 70 years old!
Man in the Iron Mask
Cracking yarn, Leonardo Di Caprio before he became beautiful, entertaining stuff! 7/10
Jarhead
I LOVE this film, really love it. Portrays how tightly wound these boys are brilliantly. 7.5/10
Pirates of the Carribbean, At Worlds End (or something)
Tripe. Utter utter tripe and a total disappointment. 2/10
Evan Almighty
I laughed, which is probably not something to be proud of. Entertaining drivel 6/10
Last Samurai
Tom Cruise taking himself oh so seriously. But that cant detract from the beauty of this film. An insight into a different world. Love it. 8/10
Philadelphia
Tom Hanks can do no wrong in my eyes and this is one of his finest hours. Groundbreaking at the time, I think. 9/10

Really gentle humour with a nice touch to it. Freeman and Nicholson worked together well on this one. As did the assistant whose name escapes me.

7/10 I don't think I'll be spoiling it when I say it's a pretty typical Guy Ritchie film, better than Revolver probably, not as good as Lock, Stock.. or Snatch. Flashy, quite funny and a couple of good performances, if nothing else you'll have fun recognising the famous faces and where you know them from.

Wonderful film. Haven't seen it in several years and it's better than I remember. Not many films can do that to me.
Perfectly acted with a superb cast - several of which were unknowns at the time. Surgery scenes are just enough to give you the insight as to what being a field surgeon in Korea was like - mainly - bloody.

I saw this earlier on :) I'd say it had surprising depth as me and my Mum managed to discuss it for most of the drive home. Better than Snatch imo, not seen Revolver so can't compare there.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
and
The Strangers
Wet afternoon in Dublin so we went to a double feature.
I had read The Boy in the striped Pajamas, and while not as good as the book, its still a fantastic story, Id recommend watching the film before reading the book though, as i felt they missed too many little things out that made the book really heartwarming.
The Strangers was much ado about nothing, it was decent horror, but felt a bit like the blair witch project.

Ooh been wanting to watch Rendition for a while. Thanks for reminding me :D I'll get it added to the list.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Fantastic film, one that everyone should watch. Jack Nicholson at his finest. Jack plays McMurphy a man who fakes madness to get out of work duties while incarcerated. His plan goes badly wrong when he realises that he's not just there for the duration of his sentence but that he's there until they decide to release him.
9/10 - They don't get much better than this.
Iron Man
I watched Iron Man this morning and was really suprised at how good it was in a dumbed down action comic book port kind of way. If your expecting high brow entertainment to stimulate you intellectually then you may want to move onto the next shelf in BlockBuster :)
Robert Downey Jnr is perfectley cast as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Think big ego, extreme self confidence and oozing self confidence then you can see why Downey Jnr really was made for this role and ensured it was true to the comic books. For those who don't know too much about Iron Man, the comic book at least really came into prominence in the eary 80's under Reganomics after debuting in the 60's. This time round it's Afghan Insurgents rather than the commies of the 60's, 70's & 80's
The movie follows the storyline of how he came into being after his kidnap. His genius is to be used develop a powerful weapon to be used against the Americans in the Middle East. Instead he plots his escape. I won't spoil the inevitable twist that comes up. Suffice it to say it's one of the better adaptations to come from comic book to screen. I doubt it will be as good as this years Batman but it's well worth a watch and certainly one to add to your DVD or Blu-Ray collection

Kung Fu Panda.
Totally predictable storyline but mindless fun and very well animated and voiced. I laughed out loud several times on the plane and got strange looks from my fellow passengers.
Enjoyed it a lot - 8/10.
At the pictures last night.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Loved the first one but this was a bit of a disappointment. Thin plot, mediocre acting (Luke Goss was cheesy as a pop artist and his acting is no better) and trying too hard to be better than the first one made this a bit of a yawn.
Kelleeeeeeeeee and I both agreed this felt more like a prequel to Hellboy 3 than a sequel to Hellboy 1.
Disappointed - 5/10. (It only got 5 because Selma Blair is hawt :p).

I loved that film. Sam Jackson's best role since Pulp Fiction for me.
The music is superb though. The 3 songs that Sam Jackson sings himself are the highlights to me. BTW... His wife isn't dead, she left him. ;)
Last film I watched:
War Inc.
Almost a sequal to the best film John Cusack ever made - Grosse Pointe Blank.
Nicked from IMDB
A political satire set in Turaqistan, a country occupied by an American private corporation run by a former US Vice-President (Dan Aykroyd). In an effort to monopolize the opportunities the war-torn nation offers, the corporation's CEO hires a troubled hit man (John Cusack), to kill a Middle East oil minister. Now, struggling with his own growing demons, the assassin must pose as the corporation's Trade Show Producer in order to pull off this latest hit, while maintaining his cover by organizing the high-profile wedding of Yonica Babyyeah (Hilary Duff) an outrageous Middle Eastern pop star, and keeping a sexy left wing reporter (Marisa Tomei) in check.
Yup, it's not Iraq at all...honest...
Another film I enjoyed. It's not up there with GPB, but it's a good political satire with some fairly elaborate fight set pieces.
I'd give it a 7/10

I stood corrected ;)
And yes it is his best performance since Pulp Fiction.
I have Black Snake Moan recorded, and also rated Hard Candy. Great acting I thought.
Watched Death Sentence the other day. Kevin Bacon taking revenge for his family and slowly turning from family-guy accountant into ghetto psychopath. Good film, really well shot, but had the feel of being done by two different directors almost. Especially when it turns a bit Natural Born Killers towards the end. John Goodman is superb in his fairly smallish role.

Yeh, i think she's a pretty decent actor though.
God she's awful. She can't portray any form of emotion whatsoever other than sarcasm and she doesn't do that well. From what I've seen of Hard Candy she's the same person in that, Juno AND Smart People.
Put three wooden chairs in a room and I could as well be watching a movie with Ellen Page, Keira Knightley and Keanu Reeves. I think she's that bad.
Taken (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/)
Starring
Liam Neeson
Maggie Grace
Holly Valance (for about 2 minutes...)
A mix of Bourne Identity-style action with a rather dark story makes it a thoroughly enjoyable film. The plot may put the women off visiting Paris. Liam Neeson does a good job of balancing his killer-ness and his desperation. Some of the scenes are surprisingly depressing too (depending on your past experiences).

I'll chip in a couple of reviews of films I've watched recently
The Strangers
Claims to be "based on true events" which opens the film quite nicely, then the film decends into generic creepy film territory with masked people silently wandering around attempting to kill the main characters.
Storyline is somewhat lacking in all respects, and I found out after watching the film that the only true event in the film was a short section at the start that lasted about 5 minutes of film, the rest is all made up.
Quite creepy, un-nerved me slightly, had a "halloween 1" feel to it which I think is what was aimed for
After the credits had rolled I thought "what actually happened" and left the cinema in slight confusion feeling like I had gotten slightly stupider and wondered what the purpose of the film was.
Overall Rating : 2.5/10

Death Race
Wasn't expecting much with this film except for some cool effects, double-hard looking cars and a bit of ultra-violence.
And well I wasn't disappointed!
Infact pleasantly surprised as they even put a vague storyline to the film which added a nice touch :)
Very fun film, very cool car races and good explosions :D
Can't fault any part of it at all really.

Pinaeapple Express
The latest ouput from Judd Apatow and Seth Rogan (Superbad, Knocked Up) sees stoner Dale (Rogan) witness a gangland killing and go on the run with his dope dealer (James Franco). Wackiness and self discovery ensue.
It's not bad but suffers from the same downfall as Hot Fuzz. These guys do comedy very well but when the plot slips into action territory it seems incongruous and unneccessary- and it's not as funny as the build up.
Gary Cole and Rosie Perez have so little screen time that their characters are confusingly sketchy.
There are some great laughs in the first half, Franco is excellent, Rogan is the same as always but the characters are likable. It's a pity that the finale is clumsy and doesn't sit well with the rest of the film.

Good film. The brutality surrounding the young girl was horrible.
Oh I watched Cloverfield. Watching a load of good looking rich people getting killed by beasties was quite fun. I did not 'feel' for any of the characters so enjoyed watching them getting gobbled up.

7.5/10 - Would have been higher, but having watched Ronin the night before, I do feel the camera work could be better!
I agree whole heartedly, watched this tonight - fantastic film.
I didn't watch Ronin last night, so I'd say 8 out of 10 :)

Inside Man
Starring
Denzel Washington

Heist film.
8/10 Quite cleverly done, easy to follow and entertaining, just about manages not to be overly heavy on the moralising and there is a strong cast to carry it through.
Taken
I love the fast paced and gripping action. I love how Liam played the character well, there is something dark and cold-blooded about the way he did it. The manner in which the portrayal of the sex and prostitution industry, along side women trafficking appears very authentic and perhaps informative to people who may have no idea about what goes on in this rather "unique industry".
My favourite moment was when he made that cold and spine chilling conversation on the phone to the Kidnappers. I love it.
"I dont know who you are, or what you want. if it is ransom you are after, I have none. What I do have are unique set of skills that I have acquired over a long period of time in the trade. These skills are a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that will be the end of it, if not I will find you and make you life hell" [Or something similar]
I busted out laughing when the other end gave the cheeky reply - "Goodluck"
Overall I did enjoy the film and it is one of those things going to my collection once it is released. Liam did a very good job and this have put him as one of my likeable and favourite actors.
8.5 out of a possible 10.
The Departed
Huge cast list:
Leo DiCaprio
Matt Damon
Martin Sheen
Mark Wahlberg
Jack Nickolson
oh and Ray Winston! :D
I never saw it when it came out but I watched it last night and I was gripped. I don't think I blinked for the entire movie. Gritty, dark police/mob thriller, a few twists, an engrossing storyline a Martin Scorsese classic really. First film where I thought DiCaprio was actually reasonably good in!
The Kite Runner
This is a stunning film, beautifully shot and acted, the story line delivers devastating punches, definately recommended 9.5/10.

Have you seen Romeo and Juliet or The Basketball Diaries?
R&J yes, I found it average tbh. Not seen the Basketball Diaries though - worth it?
I loved The Departed Will, I saw it at the cinema and it's one of very few films that had me aholding my breath at times. The tension is incredible and Damon cast as a baddie puts things on a dtrange kilter. Loved it.
Agreed totally. I did forget to breathe a few times! :D The ending was particularly "oof" worthy.
Today I watched Run Fat Boy, Run and Dead Man's Shoes. I was expecting the former to be fairly terrible, and whilst quite formulaic it had some nice moments. The kid undeniably gets the funniest line of the film though. 6/10
The latter is another revenge movie (seen a few recently!); a British film starring Paddy Considine as a soldier getting revenge on the people who hung out with and tormented his mentally handicapped younger brother while he was away on duty. The dialogue is all very natural, sometimes feeling unscripted, which makes it feel all the more real. Considine is superb, and I did not see the twist coming even though I should have spotted it a long time before the reveal. I wouldn't watch it again in a hurry but it's a really great little film. 8.5/10.
The Strangers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482606/)
A film supposedly inspired by true events. What these events are and whether they are true is a different story. This film tries to recreate some meaningful suspense with things going bump in the night, a knock at the door at 04:00 am, house in the middle of nowhere. It also tries to obey some of the classic conventions of a suspense/horror flick. Damsel in distress tries to make a run for it falls over and breaks ankle kind of thing.
It takes obvious inspiration from Hallowe'en, The Evil Dead and The Blair Witch Project. It fails miserably on all counts purely because of it's predictability. With Hallowe'en you knew why Michael Myers was a man on a mission. So there was a natural progression to the storyline. For want of a better turn of phrase, the bad guys give no reason for being out near a deserted farmhouse in masks other than they are out there near a deserted farmhouse in masks. Cue a series of unfortunate events that result in the couple trying there best to escape.
There is no plot twist and the only saving grace is that because there is no plot twist, there will not be a sequel. It's a poor film with a poor story, poor script and poor dialogue. The best part is the credits at the end. Avoid like the plague, save your bandwidth or no doubt when it airs on your favourite movie channel find something meaningful to do instead.

The Hustler

Laurie Piper
George C. Scott
The best pool film ever.
9/10 Watched it again with a couple of mates in honour of the late Paul Newman, it's a hell of a film, some superb pool and great characterisations. The main characters are all strong, as you'd expect from a cast like that and although it is quite long at a shade over 2 hours you don't get the feeling that anything was wasted.
Planet Of The Apes
Starring
Charlton Heston
Roddy McDowell
Kim Hunter
Sci-fi depiction of a planet where apes rule and humans are subjugated
7/10 I don't think the film has aged particularly well, it was my first time watching through and it just didn't really grip me. However it is a classic of the type and it probably didn't help that I was cooking while watching so I'm being slightly more generous with the score than I might otherwise be.

^^^ I thought Tropic Thunder was hilarious and Ben Stiller did a good job with the movie overall. 7/10 will be my score.
It is Good to see Robert Downey Jr turn his life around now.
I went to see this last night, and I thought it was rather an interesting film. It's definately a grower though, and people going expecting another Hot Fuzz/Run Fatboy Run will be disappointed. Yes, it's mostly a comedy I suppose but it's running a different line. Pegg is great in it and I like it because it's fresh and different. It makes a refreshing change to all the Batman, Spiderman, Ironman, Superman films that IMO saturate the cinemas these days.
It's a healthy film, with a good dosing of comedy and cringe, along with some "remain true to yourself" morality tales with a dash of romance. It takes a look at the celebrity culture that grips the world, and the dynamics behind it. Pegg plays an eager journalist desperate to make it into that world, no matter what it takes, but once he's there he sees it all in a different light, and not in a good way. He loses sight along the way, but regains it at the end. It pokes fun at the desperate and unashamed nature of celebrity status, and it also exposes the sad world of the people who feed off it. It's a slow paced film but the cast certainly pull it off well.
I liked it the first time around, but I wouldn't mind seeing it again. 7/10.

The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton version on Bluray)
What a load of old cobblers, and i mean that most sincerely. i would have had more fun picking the winnits out of my clunge of an evening, than watching this filth, it really is that bad, story is kinda non-existant ... as is character development, although the worse flaw is that there is nothing tangible in it, i mean, i have always found the best ficticious stories have always been based around 'i wonder if that really could happen', but this is so far fetched, even for a comic fantasy, and Tim Roth will be kicking himself over appearing in this detritus, special effects are outstanding as ever, but movies of late appear to be going the same way as PC gaming, all eye candy and no substance. Bring back Sabre Wulf, or Alien 8. Avoid like the plague.

After all I heard about this movie I expected it to be brilliant. It was okay. Didn't find as funny or as good as the original 3 movies. Shame really, although I think is mainly as Harrison Ford is getting a bit too old for the role :(

But, don't you think this is true with other areas of entertainment too?
Take comedy for example. Most of the US stuff is as funny as a burning orphanage, but when they get it right (Seinfeld/Friends/Simpsons/3rd Rock etc etc) they really hit the spot.

Most definitely. US humour is, for the most part, not funny, certainly not witty. The Americans go potty for their talk shows such as Conan O Brian, Jay Leno etc.. but they really aren't that funny, compare that to Jonathan Ross and I'd say he's much better - though I do really like Ellen DeGeneres' chat show.
I also don't find the US version of The Office funny at all, where as I loved ours. I just think that when it comes to complex humour the US is often found wanting.
Where the Americans do shine though is drama, which is why I find it staggering that struggle with good modern gangster films when they have TV shows like The Shield and The Soprano's, and similar shows like Entourage which are absolutely stunning and leave our shows standing.

Part of the reason that so many of "our" shows gain cult status over there IMHO.
I remember reading an interview with one of the "Python" cast (Palin I think) who said that a lot of Americans seemed to think that Monty Python was actually one of the cast members, and that most of them seemed to think it was John Cleese.

Nicholas Cage as an arms dealer.
8/10 Good film but it seemed to lose its way for a period and felt as if it were padded out rather than a taut storyline. Not too overbearing on the moralistic issues although still perhaps a little heavy handed. It's basically a 7/10 film but I'm giving it an extra mark just for Nicholas Cage being in it and the fact that I can never see him without thinking of the magnificence that is "why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box".

Anthony Hopkins, Chris Rock.
Okay, yeah yeah another Chris Rock film. I hate Chris Rock. Almost (but not quite) as annoying as Chris Tucker. His stand up is hilarious though.
Premise: His unknown Twin is a CIA agent in the middle of a major anti-terrorist case, possibly the most important part. He gets killed. CIA bring in the street-wise twin who has only a few days to learn to talk and act like the brother he's never met, and who is his complete opposite in character, to ensure the operation concludes smoothly.
Doesn't sound all that different from a number of films. It's not. It's not bad either. Nothing that's ever going to make you say "Damn, I'm glad I watched that film" but certainly not one to make you be wishing you had your 90 minutes back either. It is rather predictable too, but hey I wasn't expecting Shakespeare.
Anthony Hopkins was.. well.. Anthony Hopkins. A rather bland portrayal to be honest. He really was no different to any number of previous films. He didn't really seem to dig into his character much, nor was there scope to do so in the film. Every character was fairly 2D. What you saw was exactly what you got.

Does it have to be the first time we've seen the film? :p
Watched my brand new blu-ray copy of Batman Begins last night, I really enjoyed the film in the past and the quality of the picture in HD was one of the best i've seen. Upon another viewing i have unearthed some minor complaints however, the largest of which is the film is very strangely paced, for the first 30 mins there is barely a moment to think about what is occurring, it jumps from scene to scene like mad. I want to believe this is because they wanted to get the back story out of the way so the viewer could get what they paid to see; the awesome batman bits.
Overall, 8.5/10.
The latest film i've seen for the first time would be the Chronicles of Riddick. I watched pitch black randomly over a friends house recently and thoroughly enjoyed it, I know it isn't exactly the most intelligent or thought provoking film ever but it never pretends to be these things so i don't resent it for it. I was pleasantly surprised by Chronicles, Riddicks character fitted Vin Deisels rather wooden acting perfectly and some of the action scenes were really well done. When i was watching it there was always this constant feeling that loads of work had been put into creating the universe in which the story took place as it was just so full of detail. Once again this film never pretends to be more than it really is, a semi-brainless action flick, but it does it well imo.
Overall 7/10

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
7/10
I know it's been out for agggess but have only just got round to seeing this! It's a gothic musical and although having seen a number of dark musicals in the theater I've never witnessed this combination being put to the big screen before so was full of anticipation! Tim Burton - as ever - delivers. I really didn't know whether it would work, but the combination of fantastic actors, brilliant filming and a simple tale of a driven-derange barber over the death of his wife and the 'abduction' of his only child leaving him no emotion other than revenge... worked perfectly. The glint of black humour was brilliantly balanced with the dark tale and gore. Not a bedtime story to tell kidde winklies at all!
Johnny Depp - plays Mister Todd awesomely. I cannot speak highly enough of his ability to take a character and portray them flawlessy through every inch of his body! His singing is surprisingly impressive and the gruff edge of it fell hand in hand with Helena B Carters harmonic... yet eerie tone.
Helena B Carter is suited down to a tee for her part as Mrs Lovett. As Johnny Depp - she just manages to bring the character to life.
Alan Rickman - Genius! Hearing him sing was a bit of a shock! I wonder whether they can make a Die Hard Musical ;D Very Impressive though! And speaking of shocks...
Mister Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G) makes an appearance! Brilliantly casted :)
All in all a great film - enjoyable story line and aesthetically pleasing. The reason I didn't score it any higher was for the pure fact that the vast majority of the film was in song. I know it's a musical but I fear that people who are not musical fans and think this somehow maybe slightly less song orientated than your standard musical... will be disappointed. To be able to enjoy it you really have to be able to appreciate the obscurity of songs in every scene which some people just... don't get :)
*edit* Oh and Costume Design - SUPERB. I *want* Helena B Carters dress :(

The Pursuit of Happyness
A sentimental, over-long, depressing movie about a guy who risks everything (at the expense of his family) to be a stock broker. A predictable, corny, dull piece that made me want to kill myself after watching it. Except I think that was the movie's goal.

Everything is Illuminated
Watched this again today, after first seeing it a year or two back now, and it was every bit as good as I remembered. Elijah Wood plays his role well, he makes his character feel very 'inept' and Eugene Hütz is absolutely fantastic as the tour guide / translator.
The language used in the film is inspired and can be incredibly funny at times. The story flicks between funny and thought provoking and really does give you something to think over as the plot starts to reveal itself.
Highly recommend watching this if you haven't already, it's very very good.

Oh wow. I've had this kicking around for ages as part of a box set of the three, but having had twelve be so dire I couldn't get the motivation to watch it. Saw it yesterday 'avo and that is so much better, a great return to form. I'm glad there was no really major plot twist this time and just the small one. It'll add to the replayability of the film. Good turn by all names, though some parts felt a little like they were just treating it as another day at the office rather than putting much into it. Well worth watching (and then forgetting twelve ever existed)

6/10 It is a good film and I'm possibly being a bit harsh with the score but it just takes too sodding long and it appears at times like the director is a frustrated nature documentary maker rather than an entertainment filmmaker as such.

Clerks 2
A completely puerile film which had Mrs Dym giggling in disbelief and completely horrified at some of it while we watched it this morning.
I think it's an OK follow up to the classic of the first film but only works because of the films which came between it and the original (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).
It was a nice piece of closure for the series and managed to take what the first film had and present it in a story-based format.
As a film then I'd give it 6/10, as a tool to make Mrs Dym giggle then I'd give it 8/10 :p

Just got back from Burn After Reading
Started slow, but got better. Slightly funny in places, but is a good film showing how quickly people can go barking over one little thing.
Wouldn't pay full price to see it, but £3 was worth it.
7/10
Watched Oldboy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/) last night on Film4... Japanese Language film with English Subs. At 2h20 it isnt a short film, but there is plenty of action and interest to keep you hooked for that time.
Weird and dark, but such a good story with some great action sequences... The story itself is a little disturbing, but the fact that you are reading the dialogue really makes some of it sink in more... if that makes sense.
I wouldnt be surprised if it gets the Hollywood make-over, but i fully expect if it does it wont be half as good as this version.

Fantastic film, especially if you enjoy history and beautiful costumes, and good acting. Cate Blanchett is very good. Wish I'd watched the first one again before seeing this one; however it didn't spoil the enjoyment.

The Incredible Hulk
5/10
As in Edward Norton film from this year.. hmm.
Just.. hmmm.
Not bad, but not particularly good either. Not enough to make me think "I want my time back" but not one to go out of your way to watch. About the only remotely interesting point of it was Robert Downey Jr's brief appearance as Tony Stark dropping more hints of an Avengers movie being in the works (following on from the post credits scene from Iron Man) For the most part the actors did good jobs with their roles, as far as the material allowed them to, with the exception of Mr Norton himself. Generally I like his stuff, I think this just wasn't the right role for him. He never really managed to convince me that he was struggling with the inner Hulk as much as the film seemed to be implying he was.
^^^ Special FX were pretty good...
^^^ Special FX were pretty good...
In places, yeah. They tried to play a lot more to the FX's strengths rather than just shoving them in any ol' place, e.g. mainly in darkness and poorly lit environments when it doesn't feel quite so ugly. The daylight scenes still felt a bit weird, in particular when Tim Roth's character does the solo attack on Hulk, that felt bad to me.

American Gangster - 7/10
Good film, great performances, but never really felt like it ever got properly going. As with a lot of films that are based on true stories, the climax was a bit of a let down. One of those where they suddenly end it and flash up a bunch of narratives saying 'Mr. X went to jail and got out in '83. He died in Phoenix in '92.' 'Jimmy got shingles and fell down the stairs.' That sort of thing.
There were some great touches though, like where the police and the rival gangsters are doing separate searches in different locations and they show the duality of it. I also liked that the viewer doesn't know who to root for (or maybe that was just me?). They made Denzel Washington's character really moralistic (in his own way) and likeable, but similarly showed Russell Crowe as an honest cop at the expense of being a lousy husband and father. A lot of effort went into reproducing that 70s feel as well.

Hah, U-571 is always the one that erks me. Never have the American movie writers appeared more arrogant in their 'development' of a non-fictional event.
IIRC U-571 caused the biggest backlash. Veterans and their familes were very vocal on the subject and I believe the studio had to add text to the end credits by way of an apology. One thing that always puzzled me about the movie was its title. Why call it U-571 when the actual 571 was never captured. The number "571" has no significance that I'm aware of and I fail to see how the movie would've suffered if they'd used the designation of a boat that actually had been captured.
Does U-505 sound less appealing than U-571, for example?
At least it's closer to the truth, had they gone with 505.

A surprisingly good vampire flick, it's possibly overtaken nightwatch as my all time favorite. Story was OK but the bad guy had no "presence" at all. There was just nothing to him and when the film finished, I was quite surprised because I thought there was going to be something else. Without revealing too much there was at least one other guy that had "got away" and the "organisation" hadn't really been effectively investigated. I guess that's a setup for the next film but it made QoS seem too episodic and contrived as a result. So, good film but a bit disappointing in terms of poor casting/direction and the story not being developed to a reasonable state of completion.
Dogma
8/10.
Fantastically scripted comedy that was the best pushing of risque humour boundaries surrounding christianity since Monty Python!
Although this specific brand of humour may not appeal to some, notably those fans of what I call 'banana-skin' comedy, the fast-paced screenwriting and scripting is delivered admirably by Chris Rock, Alan Rickman and to a lesser extent- Matt Damon.
Some brilliant comedy undertones of race, sexism and mythology - a huge variation on numerous stories from Christian history are portrayed with effective modern conversion : Loki, The angel of death's flaming blade of justice is replaced with a high calibre hand gun "We call this piece the Fecalator--one look at it and the target s***s him or herself.".
Some simpler humour is provided from the unchanging Jay & Silent Bob- the F's & S's profanity toilet humour is not usually my kind of 'belly-laugh' material, usually prefering a witty line to a big parp, yet this proved an exception to the rule (much like south park!) and I found myself exclaiming with mirth with the onscreen appearance from "The Excremental" (aka S*** Demon)!
All in all, a really refreshing comedy production that I thoroughly enjoyed. The cast really is huge (Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman, Jason Lee, George Carlin and even a cheeky appearance from Alanis Morsette!).
I recommend this to those who haven't experienced it, and to those who have enjoyed it before- watch it again! There is so much packed into this film you will continue to pick up more with each viewing :)

Haven't seen this one, and didn't know whether to actually believe all of the criticism as being factual or just the product of nostalgia. Too often the old "the original is so much better" when that's not always true.
Sadly, it seems like this movie just falls down :(
The old Indy had the paranormal type stuff. Was all pretty cool but left you guessing as to what was happening as you never really saw all of it or the end, as it were. This one shows your the full bonzo, you're in no doubt what is going on and it all seems too sci-fi to me. It's a step too far for Indy IMO.

Very funny and feels more like an attached episodes of futurama series. I like the satirical approach used on several popular movies - LOTR, Star wars and a few fantasy movies. It is well string togther aand I like it. An 8 out of 10.
PS
Can I from now henceforth be addressed as Titanius Anglesmith please? Cheers. lol
Bangkok Dangerous.
A bit of a meh for me. Nicholas cage, playing the role of a hitman in this one didn't do it for me. It should have been a dvd release in my opinion as it somehow looks low-budget and perhaps rushed? There isnt much thriller and suspense one will expect with such story line. It is not that gripping either. The movie leaves several unanswered questions for me...Perhaps, this will pave a way for part two?

....or should it be PoS?
It's a generic action film masquerading under the title of a Bond short story...
As a generic action film - 7/10
As a bond film - 3/10

Indian Jones Crystal Skull Thingy
Could have been great with the usual Indy stuff going on but too much CGI and a stupid ending spoilt the whole film ::/:
The film was going really well until the introduction of an old character, just didn't see the point in that. It became a farce after that, though admittedly I'm not Ray's biggest fan. They should have stopped at 3!
I Robot :D
Starring
Will Smith
RobotsFilm set in 2035 or sometime in the future where you can buy robots as servants and they only abide by three rules.
8/10 Its Will Smith! :D (has anyone ever seen a BAD WS movie?!) easy to watch no brainer type of film... I like futuristic films :)

Although he (and his movies) typically get slated in discussion groups/forums.....I personally thought Enemy of the State was first rate.

I know - it's really random isn't it and I can never understand why people hate them so much! It's like a systematic thing people seem to say.. and yet very rarely have I ever heard someone slander him as forumees tend to in RL! He gets a much more favourable response with people in the flesh! (Mebbe it's because I mix with people who like stuff I dooos!)
At times it's almost taboo to say you luuurve his filums!!
Personally I think he's a Legend.
Ha! Get what I did there!

Hancock.
Although to be fair to him, it was bad by his standards but anyone else, it probably would have just been average. Also I think the film was mismarketed as i did expect it to be much more frivolous than it was.
Twilight
5/10 - not bad but not great IMO. All too emo for my liking. I kept wanting to throttle the main characters. Good jobs all round with the acting though, and the leading lady is cute too.
Independence Day.
What?!? that was a great film, if you take it for exactly what it is, somewhere between a comedy and an action film. Love it.
Two Lane Blacktop
Starring: James Taylor (the guitarist), Warren Oates.
http://www.dropfiles.net//files/319/two%20lane%20blacktop.jpg
Typical 60's/70's road movie with two guys in a fast 1955 Chevy gasser driving from place to place street racing. James Taylor is the driver and his younger brother the mechanic. They take on a GTO in a long distance race and pick up hitch hikers along the way. Interesting fact is the '55 Chevy built for the movie was built by a well known race shop who misunderstood the brief and built a full race car when they only needed to build a prop.
Thin slow moving plot but iconically cool car guy acting. Non hotrodders will probably fall asleep during this, for cult classic petrol heads only 7/10

Wall-e
Been wanting to see this for months now, I was a big fan of Pixar however they seemed to have lost their touch recently with both Cars and Ratatouille being rather rubbish imo. However fortunately this was a return to form in a big way for them, it's possibly my favorite out of all of their movies now. It's been so long since i've watched a childrens film with as much charm and character as those from my own childhood. It's damn near perfect.

Body Of Lies
Starring
Leonardo Di Caprio
Russell Crowe
Mark Strong
Golshifteh Farahani
Intelligence thriller set in the Middle-East.
7/10 It's a good film with strong performances, Crowe is quite dislikeable and a world away from Gladiator or Romper Stomper. Di Caprio didn't irritate me and he gets beaten up which is always a bonus, it isn't overtly moralistic and emphasises numerous times that winning and losing the war on terror is a matter of perspective as much as anything else. So it's a good film and yet I feel slightly disappointed by it for some reason.

I rented Wall-e a few days ago and completely forgot to watch it :o Might re-rent it next week if it's meant to be that good :)

Many would say Legend of Bagger Vance too, but I loved him in it!

Bad Will Smith movies:
Enemy of the State
Nay, nay and thrice nay.....and for two very good reasons.
1) He's hardly a very versatile actor, but he's not bad in this movie.
2) The presence of the living god that goes by the name of Gene Hackman prevents this movie from being bad. He's elevated much worse movies than this one upto the status of being actually watchable.

It's difficult to say to be honest, i've only seen Wall-e once, but seen Toy Story umpteen times. As a first watch i would say Wall-e is on par with it, though i'm unsure of how rewatchable it is, i'm willing to bet quite a bit.
He was just such a lovable protagonist.

Watched Persepolis (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808417/) last night. It is a 96 minute animation released last year with English voices about a girl / woman growing up in Iran from the time of the Shah, through the revolution, the war with Iraq and beyond.
Seems pretty dull, but I would give it 8/10.
Prior to that, I watched Zachariah (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068011/). A very, very weird 1971 film about two gunfighters who part company and experience surreal visions on their journey through the west. It features Country Joe and the Fish, The James Gang and various other 70s rock luminaries - which is why I watched it.
Somewhat similar to but nowhere near as good as the excellent Easy Rider (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064276/), but I enjoyed it - for the music :)

It's star wars - but for kids.... I liked the clone wars cartoon series. But this is just too childish. However, it does lead into the Clone wars cartoon series which I am enjoying.

You said thrice nay, but only 2 reasons ;).
Firstly, he's not a bad actor really, he does comedy, action and drama very well, just watch Six Degree's for example.
Gene Hackman is awesome, but he's been in some stinkers. Royal Tenenbaums I hated for example, so were: Heartbreakers, The Mexican and Target off the top of my head.
He was however in Crimson Tide and Unforgiven, two of the greatest movies ever made. Not bad for someone voted least likely to succeed alongside Dustin Hoffman at school. ;D

Unforgiven
You sir, are starting to show that you do indeed have excellent taste.
Unfortunately, now I have to put my theory to the test and ask THE question.
If you loved unforgiven, where do you stand on "The outlaw Josey Wales"?
A wrong answer may involve me putting a contract on your head.
Hold on a minute, better than Toy Story????

I was slightly disappointed with Wall-e... it was so hyped up I just thought it was going to be uber mega but it wasn't all that.
Toy Story is just legendary. And not Pixar... but similar elk - Robots. Watched it yester again and I laughed throughout it! I love the whole thought put into it! Genius!
My recent review:
Cabin Fever.
I'm going to put as little effort into this review as possible as it's already wasted a couple of hours of my precious life.
Teenage American Graduates go on holiday to a Cabin situated on the edge of some zaney weird-ass village which is a million miles from anywhere.
Your typical characters: the slut, the stud, the complete knob, the cute sweet hard-to-get-girl, the guy in love with the cute-sweet-hard-to-get-girl but has-never-admitted-it but instead walked-a-round-dribbling-on-her-all-his-life and the gutless moron.
Storyline pretty much equates to: Slut gets out boobs, complete knob acts like a knob and thus gets everyone in trouble, everyone does stupid things, guy in love tries to do the right thing, everyone protests, people go crazy and do the STOOPIDIST of STOOPID of things with STOOPID other non-real-to-life-characters, slut shags boy in love because she wants a shag before she dies, a rabid dog is thrown in, peoples limbs are strewn about with flipflops attached and they all get royally screwed by weird-ass-weirdos.
Chuck a bucket of blood over the above, a baseball bat and some random country bumpkins and there you have it.
I think... I think they try to make it over exaggerated and melodramatic towards the end in a last manic attempt to save the film by turning it in to a spoof horror comedy... and it FAILS!! F-A-I-L!!
I'd rather dump a brick than watch this ever again.
0.5/10 (the 0.5 is for a joke incorporated at the start of the film and the punch line is at the end which made me lol rather loudly)

My recent review:
Cabin Fever.
I'm torn between being sorry that someone else has shared my pain in watching this film and relieved that I can now start a support group knowing that there is another soul who felt the same distress. I've always tried my best to make sure that no-one else watched it by describing it frequently as the worst film I've ever watched with no plot to speak of, no discernable enemy, no suspense and no direction to the killings - sorry I obviously didn't manage to tell you of this and save you the time and money in watching it.
Yet ANOTHER movie I haven't seen. :(
Helped sell the plasma to me
It looks fantastic in (BR) HD and it's a pretty good film too IMO.

Toy Story is just legendary.
Want to know one of my fave sequences in Toy Story?
When Woody and Buzz are in Pizza Planet, hiding in the cup and the burger carton. As they run, you hear the same sound as if you pull your drinking straw up and down really fast out of a drink/milkshake cup.
Makes me smile every time.
Bad Boys II - actually pretty good. The chase on the elevated road section was spectacular and included some incredible driving and stunts.
Semi-pro... it's okay! We just need to save others out there!!!
The thing is, describing how bad it is can make people want to watch it!! Please people - don't fall in to this category!! It's not so bad it's good - it's beyond that!
APOL - I love that scene too!! Makes me laugh when Woodys punching Buzz on his buttons and he's going "buz buz buz buz buz buz buzz lightyear!" Hahahaha! Also when Woodys looking for his hat and the shark dude pops out of the trunk with it on and says "Hey look, I'm woody! Howdy howdy howdy!" I sometimes find myself just exclaiming that in the middle of the day to myself and cracking up! Seriously is hilarious!
Bwahahahaha! I love it! I want to watch it now! Randy Newmans a legend too - he makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :D
He was however in Crimson Tide and Unforgiven, two of the greatest movies ever made.
Don't forget Superman 1 and 2! Such an awesome talent.

Finally saw the full version.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
It's a Kevin Smith film. Rude and funny.
Seth Rogen is wooden, as per normal really for him, but Elizabeth Banks would not get kicked out of bed for farting and eating crisps.
I think we have now seen just about all of Mewes that it's possible to see without an x-ray or cheek spreaders.... But he is perfect in the role as Lester and being clean really makes him look a damn sight better.
I really enjoyed it. :D
8/10
Best line from Toy Story: "There's a snake in mah boot!"
Just such a random and mundane line for a talking toy to have! Almost as good is the somewhat niche "Someone's poisoned the waterhole!"

Open Water 2: Adrift
This film is pissing me off now.... same as cabin fever, bunch of people doing stupid things... randomly hitting out at each other, because someone forgot to let down the ladder on their boat and they are stranded in the ocean.
Annoying parts of the film: its not freaking rocket science, that you send one of the lightest of the team up the 'rope' of swimwear i.e. NOT a man.
Neither is the fact that generally men are stronger swimmers and it should have been a man who attempted the swim to shore i.e. NOT a woman.
And when she gets out... wtf jump in?! And the bloke - even if it were your fault why wouldnt you jump up the ladder?!
Apparently based on a true story... somehow and an unofficial sequel to Adrift - another film. Stupid ending too.. could have been better after the whole torture you were put through watching it.
Reminded me of The Hole. Which I remember was a bit better.. only a bit though.
0.5/10 - maybe for the fact that it was cleverly filmed so it looked like they were in the ocean.

Adrift must be bad

It made me embarrassed to watch it... obviously there were no 'stars' in the film!
This one goes with the other rubbish film I could think of - The Deep End... awful!
