I have a bottle of Yellow Tail shiraz from Sainsburys, currently with a few quid off down to £4.49 which isn't a bad price. Had it before. It's a shiraz which is a full bodied red with a bit of sweetness. This one has good full bodied taste, not too much acid with a bit of sweet spice, dark fruity taste and a good strong 13.5% alcohol hit and a little tanin at the end. This would make a good starter wine if you want to try a red.

I've had a couple of glasses already, hic :D, a splash in my onion gravy with my bangers and mash and it's starting to feel like Christmas.

Does anyone want to join me for a tipple?

Hurrah for yellow tail! :)

I'm currently trying to kill my pain with Carlsberg seeing as Phil wouldn't make me a cocktail of all the alcohol we have in the house which was black sambuca, sambuca, vodka, archers, midori, and malibu.

Assuming you're talking about John Smith's cask then it's OK but any other kind of JS is rubbish. 'Smooth flow', give me a break. 'Smooth flow' = gas filled and awful tasting. The cask stuff is reasonable but there are far better out there.

And there are many, many better wines better than smiths. I think I shall crack open a bottle and join you, Jonny. Not sure yet, I shall investigate the cellar ;)

Have you tried chardonnay with viognier? Seems to be the latest big thing but it works very well. There's a nice sweet chardonnay from M&S called Le Froglet which is quite pleasant but its a bit hard going after a while because of the sweetness. You have to drink it very cold. Casilero del Diablo do a chardonnay viognier mix which is as sweet but the viognier takes the syrupiness away, lightnes it up a lot and it's much easier to drink.

Which bit don't you like? I don't like the acidity or the oak, which is usually fake oaking at my price point which gives me a rotten stomach and a headache. I try and look for a sunny climate, high alcohol and no oak, then I get a nice clean wine which slips down well :)

You can but it's more fruit juice than wine in my experience, Schloer etc

Don't know how they make alky free beer, whether it's brewed and the alcohol taken out or just brewed light. It still tastes like beer whereas Schloer just tastes like fizzy grape juice. It's quite nice though.

You sure can, my local Somerfield used to sell some. Ironically enough like the non-alcoholic lagers it was put on the top shelf. I'm sure there's a logic to it but I'd have thought that kids are more likely to be able to reach the lower shelves than the top.

I 'aquired' a £40 voucher for Virgin wines, managed to get 12 bottles for about £50 (with the discount)! Some very good stuff considering it was just the standard mixed case. Unfortunately a lot of the wines are only available through Virgin but I would recommend the service. If I carried on I would pay £20/month, at the end of the third month Virgin put in £20 on top of your £60 which ent bad. They deliver (obviously) and will replace it for free if they leave it outside and it gets nicked. Don't know how they ask you to prove it was nicked though......
