View Full Version : I stole a dog..

Last night cycling home something really strange happened. Apart from NOT falling off and surviving, this little Jack Russell started to follow my rear. It's not the usual sort of dog I attract but in many ways, this dog was by far sweeter.

She was following me for about a mile and after a while, I thought she was clearly lost. So I picked her up and checked for a dog tag, which there wasn't one.

Not knowing what to do, I thought the best thing would be to take her home so I put her in my back pack with just her head popping out. I think she enjoyed the ride (please no puns here) as she didn't moan.

When I got home the family were overjoyed that I brought a young dog home. “Can we keep her?”, “Absolutely no way”, I replied.

Later on in the evening, I phoned the police who weren't interested; there was no answer at the RSPCA which did surprise me so I had to drop her off at the local dog drop in.

I feel guilty now that maybe she knew were she was and I’ve stolen her....

I wouldn't feel guilty, Dogs are supposed to have collars after all.

I'd keep trying the R.S.P.C.A I wouldn't have thought the police would be interested though. If not what about posters where you found the dog?

Don't feel bad, she could have been road-kill by now if you hadn't found her. :)

This is what I thought at the time.. Actually I secretly wanted to keep her.. she was really house trainned too.

I'll ring the dog unit this afternoon.. see if there is any news .

Another option - take her to the vets and ask if they can check if she's been microchipped! If she has it will have her owners details on it there :)

I thought that initially but wondered why bother getting a dog chipped if you're not going to put a collar on too  But a good suggestion, my dog used to be able to pull his collar off, maybe that might have happened.

Is it a yappy one though? I had a friend with four Yorkies :( Could make my ears bleed lol

As you said spadger her collar may have come off :)

Tis worth a try - most people I know get their dogs microchipped now :)

no not at all.. She was a lovely dog.. Very well behaved and house trainned.. I didn't think about the chip..

I gave the centre my name and number and told them that if there were any problems to call me and we'll take her in :)

Some people choose not to have a collar on their dog because of security risks from printing the address on it or the dogs name enabling other people to claim the dog. My parents dogs and my dog always just had the surname and phone number on a tag but a couple could slip their collars on occasion.

I hope her owners want her Huddy and they should definitely be more careful about where she goes but if not I'm sure you'll give her a great home. :)

I found a dog once, it bounded up to my dog when we were in the park, and followed us home, we phoned the police and told them about him, and the owner came and got him a few hours later.

Turned out that it was a girl in my class at schools dog who i fancied, so i was quite happy to see her turn up to collect him, i dont know which was randier, me, or her dog, who were both hoping for a legover.

Seconded ;D No other BD'er could have started this thread :D

Our cats have collars, no names or addresses, but have been microchipped. I read somewhere putting names on collars encourages people to take them in should they get lost, if they call the pet by their real name, the pets hear a familiar sound and can settle in quite quickly :(

Could you take a pic of her and make some posters up and put them around the area you found her?

My friends dogs are always get through her neighbours fence and take themself on an adventure lol they always come back even if she goes looking for them they end up back in her garden before she gets back to her house.

Ooops tis lom here :)

Poor thing, he probably thought "these owners treat me like crap, im going to go and find a new mum and dad". He spotted said new owner and thought "he looks like a man who i can have an adventure with" only to be promptly thrown into doggie gaol without a single look back.

Glad that didn't happen.. I've been checking for posters around but nothing. I'm assuming that she was out of her area by the time she came to me or she has been reclaimmed..

A happy ending is always nice.....though we shouldnt discount the possibility that her owner was a Korean takeaway.
