View Full Version : Genius Comedian!
Colin Cole! A complete Australian Comedian Legend!
He's in a line up at The Clapham Grand on the 1st of November! Anyone who can go - GO! He's superb!
I don't think I will be able to make it which is a shame because he literally had me in stitches and crying with laughter when I saw him at a Jongleurs 999 evening in 2006!
Trust me - complete legend! I mean - look at the man! He even looks a legend! (albeit slightly sweaty!)

Raaaaaaaaagh!
He's HuuuuuuUUUGE! (I'm 5 8 and not a particularly widgy build so LOOK! Look at the man!)
If you don't laugh he'll sit on you until you do!!
Seen any comedians as of late?! Recommendations?! I NEED to see Jimmy Carr. Last time we went to see him our car was rear-ended enroute so we never made it! Boo!
Jimmy Carr is doing a new tour shortly, look out for tickets!

I saw him in Jongeluers in Glasgow a good few years ago, he was great. I saw a good canadian guy in Dublin last week, but i cant remember his name, not much help, i know. :p

I do want to go, but I'm having a little trouble convincing my student friends to pay £17.50 to see him live even though it'll be worth it :p Funny funny funny guy, him and Andy Parsons are definitely top of my list atm :)

I would love to see Ed Byrne and Stephen Lynch but I don't think either are performing around here any time soon :(
Ooo stephen lynch is down here soon but I've never heard of him before, I just know I got invited along by some friends who are going to see him
I'd love to see Jimmy Carr :D And Frankie Boyle, Ed Byrne, Marcus Brigstocke, Ricky Gervais and Lee Mack. Probably plenty more but they're just off the top of my head :D
None of them ever come near here though so it's always too awkward :(

You must must must MUST go! :D He played here a couple of months ago and I only found out the morning after he'd been. I was really close to tears - I was so gutted!
Check him out on YouTube - you'll love him! :D He is a pleasure to hear and luckily a pleasure to watch too ;)
I love Stephen Lynch! The faces he pulls really make me laugh! And he looks so cheeky! LOVE HIM!
I saw Trevor and Simon way back. I adore silly humour like that. Also saw Newman and Baddiel and they did History Today. Awesome. Don't remember much of seeing Eddie Izzard, I was too busy dreaming of our wedding.
ooooooooooooh-wa! I want there to be a good comedy club here *stomps around in a moo*
Who is this Stephen Lynch you speak of!?

Saw Jimmy Carr at the Manchester Apollo in October 2006 with my flatmates. Paid about £25 ish each I think. Was worth it. If I had moneyz I'd go see Boyle. :D

Sold out within minutes, missed it all, debating going now, eBay tickets are already about 3 times the list price.... :(
Might wait till last minute on the day, that's the best thing about living down the road, i can just turn up and hopefully grab a deal (not particularly confident though).

\o/ :D
Speaking of comedy... Did anybody watch Ricky Gervais' "Fame" on Channel 4 last night?
I must admit to a number of hearty chuckles throughout - I feel he performs with a great level of enthusiasm and creates a strong relation - as if talking to you one-to-one in a pub; a stand-up talent I find very entertaining :)
If anyone gets a spare few minutes look at Blue Collar Comedy Tour on youtube. I saw them a few years ago and nearly died laughing.

Marcus Brigstocke as at the top of the list for me to see.
We were supposed to be seeing Russell Howard last Summer in Oxford but the gig got cancelled and now thanks to Mock the Week I've probably seen most of his material.
There used to be two comedy clubs in Exeter Pheebs. Both on Sunday night - one was in Timepiece and was associated with Avalon Hill so they got quite a few well known names down. (Saw Noel Fielding, Lee Mack and Mitch Benn there)
The other was in Mud Dock and run by an independent promotor but he had venues in Torguay and Plymouth too so he dangled the three night mini tour (fri, Sat, Sun) carrot
at people to coax them all the way down to Devon.
EDIT: Keep an eye on the listings at Phoenix too. Occaisionally comedians get booked there. Saw John Hegley.

Didn't see it last night but got it on DVD. I really like much of his stuff :)
OooOOo didn't know they had comedy nights in timepiece?!! I thought it was just full of weirdos and sticky floorboards!!
The Phoenix is one of my favourite and most recommended haunts in Exeter. I love it - though have little money to splurge out there (even though it's pretty darn cheaperoo!) I have seen the odd comedian act pass through but nothing regular like my good old Jongleurs!
*might have to open eyes wider in foochure!*
Completely forgot that I had tickets for Russell Howard tonight in Basingstoke until this morning!

That was possibly the best stand-up show I've ever seen. Really, really funny, and the support guy Steven Hall was good too.

 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back on topic :
I'm cutting back on spending at the moment but in an ideally-financed and comedic world, I would be off on a week of standup shows including Bill Bailey, Russel Howard, Frankie Boyle, Russell Brand and Ross Noble :D
With regards to Mister Russell Brand, initially... I hated him. Then... he grew on me and I thought "heh, not a bad chap". I saw him on some chat show after and he made me lol something silly.
Hoooowever.
Recently, upon a voyage back from sunny Wales, I decided to listen to him on Radio 2 and OH MY LORDY! It was like car crash tv! I couldn't believe how incredibly poo it was! He was interviewing some legend too and it was the only reason I kept listening... BUT! The interview was PANTS! It was all about him! He kept turning his own questions on himself! Talk about self infatuated! It was so bad - I cannot even remember who he interviewed... and I waited through an hour of jumbled mess and nonsense to hear it!
Really it was awful and normally anything manages to tickle me but... this... this was just cringe worthy! Half the time too the mic was not positioned correctly so his voice was muffled and due to a lack of control over the volume of his voice it also caused mahoosive fuzziness over the radio!
He has lost my support again. Boo. I need to see him do something good again to make me have faith in him!
Oh and on a side note, Garp is one of a few people I know that I can truly say is a complete and utter gentleman. They seem few and far between nowadays (although the vast majority of the few I do know reside here in BD) He's an absolute legend and incredibly lovely :)

Now that we know Garp is a gentleman, I withdraw my previous comments and assume that Garp will be found at any moment riding in a horse and carriage wearing a stove hat, cape and monocle discussing colonialism.

Anyone know where the audio from Westwood interviewing Russell Brand is?
Features the infamous remark 'Crack is Whack, Holla!' :D

Wasn't going to say a word until Phykell piped in, and FYI Phykell, paradigm is a scientific rather than an obscure flowery term and the word deserves to be burned from our collective memory

Jimmy Carr isn't what you'd expect. The biggest laugh he got all night was when he tripped over a prop. I'm a massive fan and I was disappointed. Without people around him to wittily snipe at like he does on TV (and does better than anyone) he's just not the same.
Al Murray for me is the best comedian on the circuit and the only other one I've been to see, that man is a genius. 2.5 hours he went on for not including breaks. Incredible.
I like how Al Murray has the initiative to do some of his shows in an entirely inpromptu manner - amazingly quick mind I think :)
The same certainly applies for Dara O'Brien - very clever comedy.
As for Jimmy Carr - I don't particularly rate him as a comedian, he only seems to generate 'humour' in the humiliation of others: perhaps he's just not my thing though as he's obviously popular enough to still be around! :)
