View Full Version : The dreaded C word....................
Christmas.
So come on who has bought any pressies yet. Usually we have got quite a number of our sorted by now but were a little bit late with one thing and another. Just ordered a couple of digital photoframes from eBuyer as stocking fillers. I got Sarah's main gift on order from a compnay in America and Alexander's Wii will be ordered at the end of October.
Feel free to share any unusual gifts you are planning or have got in the past
I don't plan on even thinking about Christmas shopping until December at the earliest.
This thread ought to be deleted and any mention of Xmas before mid-Novemeber at the very very very earliest ought to earn the OP a public flogging.
Will be starting in October as usual :)
Bahh and definately hum bug to you two then. In that exact order as well :p
On a serious note. The reason I get them so early is that Christmas can be sooooooo expensive. The way I look at it, the money I get in December I can use on having a good time, spending time with the family and treating them to stuff when were together. Plus the benefit of not leaving the comfort of my chair and avoid the crowds is another big draw
Ban for OP please. :p
Those with children are welcome to do as they please, just leave the rest of us scrooges alone. ;D

Got a higher resolution version please? That needs to become my desktop. :)
Afraid not :( I've been looking for one but that is the only version I have
At the rate of which I am getting monies I will be making my Christmas prezzies for peeps this year.
I tend to do this every year but it's going to be an especially tight one this year!
Ahh well.
*gets out Christmas Chutney recipe and starts saving jars* :)
This one will be pretty awful for me so the less said about it the better imo :)

Rob is buying mine tomorrow :/
Have no idea... have collected a few things throughout the year but have 3 birthdays before I can think about December.

Lines as in queing up
I was punning, as 'que' is spanish for 'what'. SO when you said 'them ques' i said 'them what?'
It was a humorous comment designed to invoke mirth.

Yeah I know.
For some reason I have always struggled spelling that standy in the line bored as hell with loads of people in front of you word :s
CC, WRITE THAT ON YOUR ARM (or the other place, if you prefer)
I have cards and paper already (though I'm hoping to buy other cards when I'm told I can buy some). Presents I do what I usually do, decide I have no idea what to get and leave it to last minute, then panic and ask my Mum if she has anything I can buy off her and give to others (and she usually does).

Harsh CBS, Very Harsh
Not really, we are talking about Christmas afterall, and we're not even out of September yet. Is it any wonder that people get put off more and more each year? :D

I bought some mince pies yesterday. I feel dirty :(
I remember when I worked at woolies, the plain run of the mill, no frills xmas trees use to be delivered in February :/
Back to school stuff use to come in before the kids even broke up, when the back to school stuff hit the shelves the xmas stock started to get delivered along with Halloween and bonfire night stock, easter eggs were always 2nd week of January along with valentines day stuff.
We still have Halloween, Remembrance Day and Thanksgiving to go through over here. Not even a remote chance in hell I'm going to be able to afford anything by the looks of things.

Christmas is great :D anyone else who says otherwise smells!
I've scared myself this year. I normally leave all my shopping until a few days before christmas.
So far I've almost finished buying all of Megan's presents. I'm severely cutting the present budget this year- there just isnt going to be enough room for both kids in 1 bedroom if I spend what I usually do.
This year she is getting.....
A ballerina necklace, Jewellery box, Girlie bath stuff, a new handbag, makeup (she's only 4 so it's a kids set and will only be used with supervision), A star pillow (she's obsessed with stars at the mo), A doll's house (about £40), A baby born boy (wanted one last year but no where had them for love nor money), a few barbie things.
The only thing she's asked for is my little pony- they are £5 bogof at tesco now \0/.
By the time I've finished I will have spent about £100. I spent about £200 on her last year.
No idea what we're getting Toby :(
So far I've spent about £30 on her, bought all of the inexpensive stuff, just got the pillow, dolls house and doll to buy.
You're all behind. I had a clear out of my hard drive at work and found a rip of my three-disc Christmas CD. I've been playing 'In Dulci Jubilo' since July.

Dad?
Seriously there's no need to mention Christmas until the embers have cooled on your bonfire. Now someone lock this thread until 6th November.

This is one of the main reasons I dislike Christmas so much - it's more about what you spend and how much "stuff" you give than anything else. I'm not having a dig at you personally Tiggy, I know how much pressure there is with kids - especially when they're at school. You don't want them to be the one's who get teased for not getting stuff. It becomes a "keeping up with the Jones's" exercise and people end up going short or getting into debt because of peer pressure.
I wouldn't mind Christmas at all if it was solely about spending time with the family and/or about God and stuff for the believers. A day of stuffing my face and drinking heavily, whilst watching crap telly with those I love sounds like a splendid way to spend a day. I object to being pressured into buying stuff for people at a specific time, rather than when I want to.
My sympathy lies with all parents at Christmas. I've been the hard up parent with kids at school before and I know how difficult it can be to find the cash to ensure your little ones don't get teased - good luck all :)
I'll have to get a new "Bah Humbug" sig for this year - I only stopped using last year's one a couple of months ago :o

I thought this thread was going to be about cock, it failed to deliver.
Ive got 2 birthdays before xmas, my youngest daughter wants everything and the kitchen sink for crimbo, my eldest wants Cosplay japanese costumes.
I adore Christmas and all the merry smiley cheesey jolly associations that come with it!
... I just wish that they could perhaps hold back until early/mid november before it all starts kicking off!
The garden centres near me begin selling off last years excess christmas stock in AUGUST ... which I find utterly ridiculous.
I'm a great fan of all things festive but stretching it out across such a time period is like spreading a knob of butter *sniggers* across an 5 foot length *sniggers!!* of bread = you lose the flavour!!!
Goddamn I love christmas.
More sparkly stuff please.
snip
I know where you're coming from Stan. Tbh, Megan isnt in to most of the stuff that the other girls are at school, so there's no pressure yet for me to buy her the 'must have' things. She'll get spoilt rotten by my parents, so there's no point in me going ott.
She only ever (so far) asks for inexpensive things, like I said, this year it's a my little pony, she wants one of the £5 ones. She got a second hand bike before the summer, so that's off the list.
We went totally over the top the christmas before Toby was born.
Christmas has always been about spending time with family for me, eating far too much dinner and consuming half a tin of roses whilst playing trivial pursuit after the second episode of eastenders.
Megan is over the moon that she's going to be spending christmas with her cousins this year.
I've been lucky all of her christmases so far, at this time of year some benefit has been messed up and stopped, and paid in bulk at the end of november. Yeah it means that money has been tight at this time of year, but it's an easy way to save.
Here's my christmas list for this year.....
Wii fit
Money towards getting the garden turfed
My Mother not having a nervous breakdown like she normally does on christmas day.
