Yesterday was a fun day at work, aside from the fact that I had to change 1300 ball valve handles from yellow to black, a lorry driver (eastern european) dropped in to drop off a shipment of valves. He hadn't parked where he should have done so the warehouse manager was grumbling. It later turned out that he had parked slightly away from the loading for a reason. When he turned up, he got out of his cab, went round the back of his lorry and opened the rear doors. He then walked back to his cab for the paperwork. In the meantime 6 blokes jumped out of the lorry and ran like hell

10 minutes later a couple of police cars go screaming up the A5 trying to find the 6 runners. The lorry driver son left as soon as the pallets were unloaded.

Made the day slightly more interesting anyway.

Does the nationality of the lorry driver matter?

Dunno tbh, I assumed that UK lorry drivers would be less likely to allow people to hide in their trucks though, regardless of the money as they can be traced easier.

I would assume that your employer uses Eastern European lorry drivers because they can get away with paying them lower wages, therefore it is not surprising given that the cost of living is so high that some drivers, regardless of their nationality, are tempted to earn some extra cash by taking risks like the one you describe. He should obviously be prosecuted, but I did think you made a fairly vague generalisation.

It's not my employer that uses Eastern European drivers, we use a carrier company based down the road from us that has offices around Europe. In fact the goods originated in Italy.

Same logic still applies to the delivery/courier company though :p

That only works until they get caught and fined. Worth the risk? Maybe - that's their decision.
