Jesus. Zidane and maradonna on the wings and Mattheus in defence?

Talk about square pegs in round holes.

Maradonna wasn't a winger but played on the left, Zidane the same.

C'mon Chumpychops show us yours then

Seen on TV?! That's almost impossible!
If you'd said 'seen' as in been to see it might actually be possible.

GK: Schmeichel (obviously)
RB: Cafu
CB: Beckenbaur
CB: Ferdinand
LB: Maldini
DMC: Pirlo
CM: Keane
CM: Zidane
CM: Seedorf
FW: McCoist
FW: Ronaldo

That's really tough, if I were to do it again tomorrow, or even in an hour it would probably be a lot different.

GK: Goram (cos people who pick Schmeichel are all predictable, lame and English)
RB: Bergomi
LB: Maldini
CB: Baresi
CB: R Koeman
LM: Giggs
CM: Gullit
CM: Gascoigne
RM: C Ronaldo
CF: Bergkamp
CF: Batistuta

Again, I've tried to go with players I've seen fairly frequently rather than a "best ever" XI. Even still there are a few tough calls in there. RB was between Bergomi, Kohler and Zanetti. Cafu was discounted due to him not being strong enough defensively.

A lot of very good players to choose from in the CM positions too. Could quite easily have had players like Zidane, Rijkaard, Scholes in there but Gazza just nods it due to him being a supremely naturally gifted player.

Finally I also considered Brian Laudrup and Lionel Messi for that RM slot but Ronaldo shades it for me purely for being possibly the most exciting player in the world at the moment who has now learned that sometimes "less is more" and is reaping the benefits.

Having seen both Schmeichel and the Flying Pig in a Utd shirt it's safe to say there is no contest

It really isn't even close, althought we didn't get Goram in his prime.
The thing is, Schmeichel is always up there in most peoples world XI, not just those in England.

Having seen Goram in a Hibernian, Rangers and Scotland shirt I stand by my decision ;)

TBH Goram joined Utd 3 years after he'd retired from the Scotland team and left Rangers. A great player but you could argue that he should have completely retired long before he joined Utd given his injury problems

He was very average considering there were 2 of him though.

Meh, he's my childhood hero so I've got a bit of a soft spot for the flying pig. He kind of epitomised the fact that you didn't have to be a Goliath-like 6 foot 5, 16 stone figure to be a top-class goalkeeper. If you know any Leeds fans you should ask them if they think he's average though ;)

Don't get me wrong, Schmeichel was a fantastic keeper but the reverence with which he gets treated just annoyed me a bit at the time.
