We would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome all members to our little corner of the internet.
Boat Drinks has been running for around 3 years now, it originally started as a closed forum for existing friends to keep in touch and we are proud to have developed into a pleasant and positive community who have been able to open our doors to welcome new members. This may sound a little sugary to some but its the way the members like it.
Since we have been open the moderation team haven't needed to be all that active and the RTM system has hardly been used at all. However, over recent weeks we have found that we are receiving more and more RTMs, this seems a shame and we would like to go back to not having to do anything apart from enjoy the community here and drink lots of cups of tea.
To allow this we would ask that if a member (new or old) suggests that they find one of your posts offensive that you take this on board and if you can see their point that you self-moderate by editing your post yourself; this is not exclusive to new members and if you find yourself viewing posts which you don't feel are appropriate then please let the poster know.
Lets keep unconstructive and negative posts, personal attacks and spam away from this place, we also like to keep rude or NSFW pictures to a minimum. This is a place which should be able to be read by anyone on any computer, public or private.
We understand that when people who already know each other from other forums join us that it can be hard not to bring with them in-jokes which others might not understand or may find inappropriate, please try to post in an open style so everyone can enjoy the forums.
If you find posts which you don't feel are suitable and the poster refuses to self-moderate then please feel free to use the RTM button provided and we will address your concerns as soon as we finish our tea.
This place isn't for everyone and if you feel you can't or don't want to post in what has become the general style here then we understand.
Many thanks

The BD Mod TeamWhilst agreeing wholeheartedly with what you say, I'm not entirely sure how any "average" user will know if, when and why any particular post has been RTM'ed?
Do the Mods on Boat Drinks provide feedback to offending posters?
The alternative you have suggested (letting the poster know) has always in the past led to a sequence of increasingly forceful posts along the lines of:
"Your post is offensive"
"I don't think it is"
"I do"
"Well you are entitled to your opinion, wrong as it is and so am I"
etc., etc., etc.
Incidentally, please don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with the general principle, I'm just not sure how it will work in practice.

Good point
We deal with RTMs in a number of ways;
We always check the post to see if it is actually worthy of action, if the post is a throw away comment which the poster probably won't even remember posting then its removed.
If the post is offensive or a personal attack then the post is usually removed and the poster is informed and asked not to post in such a way as to upset other users, in some cases this may lead to further action such as a suspension, however this has not yet taken place in the history of the forum :)
Spam or junk thread or threads with little or no added value are sometimes removed or locked to keep things tidy.
Actions are at the mods discretion, I do totally understand what you are saying about self moderation and entering into argument about other peoples thread content, its not something we've had here in the past because most people know other peoples boundries. If it does happen in the future and posters do enter into argument I think we would prefer the posts are RTMd and we make a judgement on the original issue and delete any argument, but I would hope that this wouldn't be a regular thing and people will respect other members, we are suprisingly a pretty open minded bunch.

Any ideas why "Leowyatt" doesn't appear in the list when clicking "View forum leaders" on the front page?

What's the point of an incomplete list of moderators?
Surely it's better if you either don't list one at all and keep us all guessing, or make it accurate?

Leo is quite a recent addition to the team the forum leaders column is manually populated and is really to show who is looking after an individual forum rather than who as mod privileges, but you have a good point, we'll add his name to the rosta. Normally mods and admins would have titles or avatars to show them but we like to keep things informal here, mods and admins are just like any other member, apart from the fact they have to clear up.

Bumpage !!!!
How come this was bumped.
I bumped it as a bit of a reminder but it would appear it was in vain. Any reason you ask ?
No, just that I have seen a few people banned from here and just read a thread at the-sps and put 2 and 1 together.
It really doesn't make a difference now though Cheets. I was trying to help some of The SPS people out but nm, whats done is done. Couldn't possibly tell you what is being said over at SPS as my MO access has now been revoked

I hope that's not just because you're a member here because if that's true, it's a real sad irony that the SPS has become exactly what it was originally, ideologically opposed to :(

It looks like this is the case, me and Tiggy are banned from MO too.

I had my MO access on the SPS removed ages ago, probably not too long after I stopped posting there. Have had a browse over there a day or so ago and it just seems like a playground now full of immature children. Leave them to it and ignore them, easiest thing to do.
An "SPS ban" should be an oxymoron really.
Hope we can all come to some accord :(

Well its their prerogative. I guess they have more to hide than I have to gain by having MO access.
