Not very good :(

I like Starwars games but this one feels a but linear and the boss battles are a bit sucky, although it looks good and some of the force powers are well done the special moves are too mucj like a fighting game for my liking with some of them being nigh on impossible to string together, I just find myself mashhing buttons

Anyone else got it?

Yup, and I disagree with you, as I'm really enjoying it so far. Cut n paste from my blog post about it....

I’m 5 levels in with 4 to go and it’s been very enjoyable so far. You start off with a teaser level as Darth Vader, giving you full access to force powers so you know how much fun it can be. Then you start as the Apprentice and your powers are drip fed to you as you advance through the levels. If you combine this with achievement hunting, it can make for quite varied gameplay as you try to get 100 and 500 kills with each of your powers, so you don’t rely on any one of them (though Force Grip is easily the mostfun, picking up people and throwing them through windows). It’s been slightly slow going through it so far as I’m using a guide to make sure I don’t miss any Jedi Holocrons as I’d like to get the achievement at the first time of asking, so I can just try and blast through it on a harder difficulty next time.

Regarding your point about the special moves, I've had no problems with them, but I'm very used to things like that from Ninja Gaiden games so that's no real surprise. My only gripe so far is that the quick time events which are used to finish off bosses actually cause you to concentrate on the button presses so much that you miss the cool things the Apprentice is actually diong to his opponent. Linear gaming is also fine with me as I've got more than enough open world games, so a little linear gaming is ok as everything is nice and straightforward.

I thought it was pretty poor, im about level 4, nice graphics, but very repetitive and generic.

I know your a big fan of the NG games Davey so you liking it does make a lot of sense.

Linear is OK but I'm just not feeling any sense of excitment with this game, the best bit so far has been storming the Slingshot on Kashyyk which at least had a bit of a challenge to it, I suspect I only have a couple of levels left and that in itself is disapointing as I've only played the game for a few hours on the normal level of dificaulty, I'm not a gamerpoints junky so I can't really see me playing it through again to get the achievements. I agree with you on the finshing moves button presses it ruins the attached cut scenes

This one is definately going to get traded.

Oh, this is definitely getting traded (towards Fifa 09 on Friday), but mainly because it should still have a nice high trade in value still. I can see me renting it again in the future to try and finish off the achievements.

I wouldn't count on that Davey, I saw an advert in the local gamestation window and you got band of brothers: hell's highway for £15 when trading in starwars which means you get £20 at most

I've just finished it for the second time. First time I did it on normal difficulty and found it a ridiculously hard learning curve. Got to the end of the junkyard level and it took me a very long time to kill the boss. As I got used to the moves though, and stopped just whacking buttons it got a little easier. The second playthrough I did it on easy and it felt far more like I was a Jedi. I wasn't just getting beaten down by laser fire all the time and felt I could deal with multiple opponents much better. OK, so it really does make it easy, but it's far more realistic in terms of what we know from the Star Wars universe.

It's not without fault - more than a few times it suffers from 'Streetfighter II Corner Beatdown', where those large Stormtroopers trap you and just knock you down repeatedly and you're unable to respond. This also happens when fighting AT-STs and Rancors; "Oh, they stomped the ground and I fell. Best get up.... not yet.... OK, dust myself down and..." *STOMP*. That can get tedious. I'd also like to be able to move when I throw my lightsaber, as in Jedi Academy.

Also, I've completed all the training courses, except one. I can't for the life of me kill the seven Stormtroopers with a lightsaber flurry. I can barely kill one before it suspends, telling me I've used a standard lightsaber attack. My TV got the finger numerous times whenever that message appears.

The story though, is awesome. Fits really nicely into the saga.

Computer Exchange are currently offering £30 trade in for it, and Gamestation have a price match promise which I'll be testing out. I've got 2 other games to take back as well so I don't expect to pay anything for Fifa with 3 games going towards it :)

Is the football for the PS3 or the 360? :D This is a game I was looking forward to but I hear it averaged 7/10 so I'm waiting till closer to Xmas when its like £20. I'd prefer to spend my monies, if i ever find them, on Fable2 / GoW2.

Think I'll be waiting for a few price drops or a rental for this. The demo was fun but I can see it getting tedious for me. Pity as it seemed really promising.

leowyatt
30-09-2008, 11:28
Fable 2 and Gears 2 were the reason this went from purchase to rental. The demo was a great laugh but I did wonder if it was very much a rinse and repeat game, seems it might be the case but I'll wait till I play the whole game before passing judgement.

Best thing to do, as nice as the game is, I don't see it holding its value for too long, at least not up against the real powerhouse games coming out over the next 2 months.

More and more developers seem to be announcing DLC weeks after release whihc makes you wonder if it should have been included in the full game.

30-09-2008, 16:37
DLC is a great idea in theory. Games like Mass Effect, GTA, etc where you get a huge game and then 6 months later you get a new campaign to play. Great for that. Bad for developers who make a 6hr game then release a further 2hrs 2 months later.

Well that is utter bollocks, just been through the first 2 levels and now I have to do it all again because the stupid fecking thing didn't save!!! What is the point in having a game you can't save. I want to be able to play in bits not have to do however many levels before I can save.

Argh! Stupid game!!!

Haly

playing it now shows a little "saving" icon in the middle of the screen

Belmit
30-09-2008, 22:39
Eh? It should let you continue from the last checkpoint, or you can save in the Start menu.

Edit: Unless you've used any codes to unlock content, then it disables saving and achievements.

leowyatt
30-09-2008, 22:47
Used no code at all, when I tried to save it kept saying "saving disabled" but when I died it kept restarting from the same checkpoint so I just quit the game. Came back just now and it hadn't saved any of my progress :(

Just finished the first level now :/

Davey_Pitch
01-10-2008, 08:35
Leo, if you're going after the Holocrons for the achievement, make sure you don't change outfits or lightsaber crystals in the game at all. There's currently a major glitch which can cause stat tracking (kills and holocrons) to die, and it's pretty much been narrowed down to changing things in the game. Some people have suggested ways around it (such as not changing things the level you get them, but the level after instead), but personally until the glitch gets patched I won't be risking it at all.

leowyatt
01-10-2008, 09:08
Ah well I've changed the colour and crystal during the first level. The summary at the end said 15/15 holocrons though :)

I'll not change anything from now on then. It is pointless in collecting them then if I can't use the damn things!!!

Davey_Pitch
01-10-2008, 13:28
Some people have been able to change things and not had any problems at all, but I just thought that if you were going after the achievements it'd be handy to know :)

Great, just had the ******* glitch. It means I can't get the holocron achievement, at least not this play through. I'll just be finishing the story off now and then renting it again when there's (hopefully) been a patch to get the rest of the achievements. Stupid half assed programmers

Well I'm thankfully back to the same point I was when it didn't save the other day!

Davey_Pitch
02-10-2008, 08:48
Well, finished it last night, and had it crash on me again. Right as I dealt the final blow to the last boss, it went to a black screen like it was about to go to a cut scene, but just hung there. It wouldn't respond at all so I had to switch the 360 off and on again. When I went back in, it had given me the achievements for finishing the game and the good ending, but it hadn't recorded my progress or unlocked the cut scene, so I went back into the final battle and chose the evil ending instead (and got the achievement as well).

Overall I really quite enjoyed it, bar the last fight on level 8 being a pain in the ass. The glitch was a major irritation, as it stopped tracking holocrons, and also the types of kills I did (force grip, lightning, etc). I still got the achievements for Rancor kills and the like though, so it doesn't completely stop tracking those kills, just the manner in which they died. I'll definitely be renting this again in the future when it's patched so I can go through it again and get the rest of the achievements.

Hmmmmmm, having real trouble killing Vader, managed to get him down to half strength and I know what I'm supposed too do but I can't hit him with an object before he hits me :/

After the Superstar Destroyer this game is starting to annoy me more and more. Playing DMC4 now which is quite fun, might go back to SwTFU at a later date but I'm pretty sure I'm near the end anyway.

Well just finsihed, I must have been lucky with Vader as he didn't throw much at me and I managed to throw everything at him correctly.

The emperor was done in at most 10 attempts :/ Just going to go through the training missions and the prologue again to kill the wookies and I'll be sending it back tomorrow. So glad I didn't waste £40 on it and only spent a tenner instead ;D plus I should be getting BIA: HH next week unless anyone else has anything they'd recommend???

EDIT: Oh and 1 more holocron to get I fell through the hole before I could get it :(

Well if you do do a search on youtube for holocron level x and find the videos by rooster teeth. I used those and got all of them first play through. Saved a fair amount of time, I only missed one because the jump is rather awkward and I fell through the whole continuing the level so had to restart to get back to where I was.

New update for this game:
The Force Unleashed received a load of Marketplace updates today in the form of two themes, two picture packs and even a new mission pack.

The two theme packs are, both 50 points:

Girls of Star Wars
Jedi Temple

The two picture packs, both 100 points:

Picture Pack 5: It contains Rebel Juno Eclipse, Ultimate Good Apprentice, Maris Brood, a Bull Rancor, and Jedi Master Shaak Ti.
Picture Pak 6: It contains the Ultimate Evil Apprentice, Darth Sion, Count Dooku, Kit Fisto and Young Obi-Wan.

Moving on to the major game content ... I call it major because for 800 Microsoft points, it needs to be. The DLC, titled Jedi Temple Mission Pack contains the following:

"...an entirely new single-player mission set in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. In this mission Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice turns to the Jedi Temple to learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he must confront his inner demons... Download this mission pack and you’ll also get 6 brand new characters and 3 all new Secret Apprentice costumes."

Importantly this new update does include new achievements, 7 to be precise worth 220 points (wonder what happened to the other 30?). It's nice to see DLC where that's the case - unfortunately for Belmit he sold his copy today, but those who've held on to it this may interest you.

You can download the update here (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024c4107d2/).

It's OK, I booted it up last night and got three of the ones that had eluded me in about ten minutes. Ended up with something like 37/47 (can't remember exactly). I'm not sure I had the patience to go through on the harder difficulty levels anyway, which I guess is at least in the spirit of the Sith.

Edit: And I still can't help but read TFU as 'The ****est Uppest'. :D
