This little machine has been reduced/replaced so its now £199 at HoF, normally £300 and online price is around £250. :D

I could do with an espresso maker but haven't got enough space left in the kitchen for it!

Wicked, nice one. Wondered why I couldn't find one in the shops at the weekend. What is the replacement model?

I am guessing either the Gaggia coffee machine ABS Baby which is almost the same rrp price as the Classic. I saw it in HoF at lunch, it has an redesigned easier access water tank but fiddly electronic buttons like you get on a monitr. I much prefer the "Switch" on the Classic personally.

The Baby is a lame replacement in my opinion. Made of plastic, nasty switch setup, not good :(

If it was roasted the day before, the beans should be reaching their peak in tasteyness either today or tomorrow. Depends on the beans.

Normally takes 3-4 days, depending on the bean and the roast.

Ah well, it was worth the risk ;)

This really is a spectacular machine. Does a fantastic espresso even out of cheap coffee that rivals any of the high street chains in my opinion. First one I pulled was perfect, nice big solidly made handle with a full size cup on the end of it.

Was buzzing off my tits this morning operating at a thousand miles an hour. Cafe Francais from Whittard :)

Glad you are enjoying it as much as i do ! :)

And look at this crema !!!! freshly roasted beans, freshly grind, proper tamer makes a big difference !

How does one go about turning those little shots of syrup into an actual drink then, as i'm not exactly what you would deem a fan of espresso.

You need to froth some milk in another container to around 80c
you get a large mug
Add syrup into mud
put the milk into the mug
pour in your espresso shots you already pulled.

Stir. :D

Incidentally, I believe that the Gaggia Classic is no longer available at the House of Fraser, even at £179.

Giggle ? no, :dunno:

As for it no longer available, yeah, i knew that was going to happen a few weeks ago, hence the start of this thread.

Pack the machine tighter and grind finer and get a 1/2 - 3/4 size shot in ~30 seconds - this is a ristretto
Drink espresso straight.
Add the shot directly to some hot water from the machine for an americano
Add steamed milk to the shot for a latte
Add less steamed milk but more foam to the shot for a cappuchino

Jonny69
19-10-2008, 16:50
It does a good crema this machine. The one at my old work made hardly any crema using the same coffee.

Actually it's Santos Java, the Cafe Francais is in the freezer :D. Very similar and a bit cheaper to boot. Interested to compare now.
