View Full Version : Gulp, 60Gb monthly peak allowance!
I go off peak at 22:00 and my billing period ends at midnight.

/me turns off everything that uses bandwidth
This month?! We're only 7 days in :o
Time to pull the plug until 22:00

My monthly billing period starts on the 8th of each month. It's when I signed up with them.
So, you wouldn't appreciate somebody posting a 200MB image in this thread then? ;)
Go for it, I have images, avatars and sigs turned off. I'm conserving bandwidth :)

What are your favourite TV shows?
;)
This month I've been mostly downloading M*A*S*H, Extras, Robin Hood, Spooks and Secret Army.
Someone should schedule their downloads more :p
Someone has scheduled their downloads _almost_ perfectly :)
I think that to be within 200Mb of a limit with just a couple of hours to go is pretty good scheduling.

Yeah, not too bad then. I was more stunned you'd done that in 7 days! ;D
I guess the only thing to do is figure out what isn't scheduled perfectly and fix it :p

Pah for download limits, they are for n00bs
Bah, you guys don't realise how good you've got it.
I'm near Hull so I can only get Karoo (no BT) and I'm on:
10GB Monthly usage
(£1 per 1 GB thereafter) for £17 a month
or I could upgrade to 75GB for £30 a month but that's daylight robbery for a 3MB connection!
60G peak usage is plenty, mine is 45G and currently at
Total Peak Usage: 4.83 Gb / 45Gb
My month starts on the 18th of the month and even with the US TV seasons back up again i am nowhere near it !
The offpeak is when i do most downloads
Total Offpeak Usage: 35.55 Gb / 300Gb
Still have LOADS of room left !

I don't have a limit :p

Aye, I'm not sure what Feek is up to tbh. ;)
I'm on home 30, my month starts on the 19th and I've used 18.63 GB total. Perhaps I need to get me some more HD love instead of the normal. :p
I just moved to an ISP with a monthly usage limit. If I overdo it I'm blaming iPoo 'cos I went with this deal on his recommendation btw..!
Feek what do you use to monitor bandwidth? I have two PCs and a laptop on the network - the lappy won't be using much but I still think it best to monitor the LAN as a whole, so I guess I need something on the router..?
Sorry to hijack your thread too!
I have a Netgear DG834N router, I was wondering if I can flash it and use the Tomato firmware that people on the interweb seem to rave about.. specially on Lifehacker!

use the ISP control panel, it'll update nightly :)
Entanet has a live usage page, it updates every few minutes and I ended up with about 100Mb to spare :) I do run reduced speeds during peak times but obviously overdid it a bit for that billing period. I have learned.
But I think it's pretty good going, I have an allowance, it's only sensible to use it :D

I dont think you can its generally left to the WRT routers (i have the WRT54GS V1 Arguably the best :p well worth tracking down in german).
Tomato is bloody fantasmical though, and today lifehacker even blogged about how to use the tomato scripting and ad block to block ad's at router level over your whole network, i haven't done this yet i dont have much need to, but it is undeniably cool.

Limits would do me no good. I've uploaded 32GB in the last 2 days :p
I know the feeling, though I don't do that very often.
What ISP/connection are you using to abuse the internet like that? :D

Do ISP's not go, "hmmmmm that bugger is downloading a lot" and check it?
I've only downloaded about 300GB since january.
Well I'm on Virgin cable who don't do download limits but rather limit during certain periods. From 10am to 3pm I can download 6GB and from 4pm to 9pm, 3GB. If I go over these limits then my speed goes from 20Mb to 5Mb for five hours.
TBH it's easy enough to just schedule downloads overnight to avoid these limits and, as I've said before, I'd much rather have this system than a hard limit on how much I can download per month.
Many have complained about how Virgin are limiting in this way and how other ISPs don't have any limits at all but I can still download over 130GB per day and around 4TB per month and I doubt many of these "unlimited" ISPs would let that pass without tapping you on the shoulder, regardless of what their T&Cs say.
If you're asking whether they'd be curious as to what I was downloading and check the content, then they can't as all my connections to Giganews are SSL encrypted so the ISP couldn't see what I was downloading even if they wanted to.

Same as me, apart from I'm on the 10Mb package. Also, it's now 4-10pm for me for some reason
