A television campaign for a fruit drink which showed a girl running away from home with her new "cactus" boyfriend has been ordered off the air.

The Advertising Standards Authority, which received 32 complaints, said the commercials for Oasis fruit drink were "offensive" and "irresponsible".

Viewers complained the adverts condoned teenage pregnancy and under-age sex.

The drink's manufacturers, Coca-Cola, said the commercials were removed from reality and were cleared for broadcast.

It also said that the advert had been scheduled away from children's programmes.

The two commercials featured a character called The Cactus Kid, who was green, covered in spikes and did not like water.

His pregnant girlfriend was shown having a row with her mother before the couple sped away in a car in the style of an American road movie.

 yes they do think we are all idiots. Perhaps we should all complain to the TV stations about what we don't like and think is offensive I'd bet if they took everything off the schedule would be pretty empty :p

So 50 million people watch the advert, 32 of these people dislike the content enough to complain about it and it gets pulled

What really concerns me is this body calling itself an "authority" thinks that an Oasis advert could potentially encourage underage sex and teen pregnancy.

It really is daft and beyond belief that these things happen. I mean, the dude is a cactus.

Far more evidence to take it off the air for being a crap advert to be honest.

I find it hard to believe that someone would see an advertisment on television and get up off their bott botts and compile and email / make a phonecall to complain!

Jobsworths!

I think though that it is the fact that it takes a serious effort to complain that the Advertising Standards Agency take it even when its a relatively small number of people who do phone to make the point.

We should pick a really average and mundane advert and all send in a complaint of some sort. Wonder if we can get it taken off the air ;D

We should take offence at those badly dubbed cleaning product adverts.

Or the nappy ones they show at teatime, I really wanted to see a babies bum when I'm trying to eat :/

It's about the average figure for stuff getting pulled. It's rare even the most offensive gets more than 100...

I complained to the ASA once over an advert, can't remember what it was for but it was a bit freaky and it upset Josh, there were bees stinging someone.

I got a nice letter off them in reply, and the ad got made post-watershed, but not because of what I complained about.

Actually they probably do assume everyone is a moron. Same as when I'm compiling general risk assessment. Assume the worst case always.

Won't miss it anyway as the ad was lousy.

Any chance we can get rid of the Renault adverts that have clearly just had the french soundtrack replaced with English.
In fact anychance we can just get rid of Renaults.

Or the French :p

Apparently, there is a way they do the calculation...the 32 complaints represent just more than 32 people iirc. Kinda like an average or something.:)

Indeed, why are 0.000076% of the viewers given authority over the rest?
