View Full Version : Is this a man thing ??

As per usual the topic of conversation ended up degenerating into nonsense over lunch time. However is taking a book or magazine into the Throne Room a typical man thing ?? I would like to hear from our female fraternity of their thoughts on having some good quality reading material in the bathroom. My mates brother has had a small bookself built in his place which I think is a bit extreme.

I have a selection of 15 or so magazines in there in a range of genres.

Football (Four Four Two of course), Games Magazines (One for each format as well as a range of multi-formats) and Nuts/Loaded/Zoo.

Must say I find it strange myself. Something I've never really done.

my visits to the bathroom are taken up with trying to hold the door shut to keep out children who are shouting "mummyyyy can i see you weee?" through the door. :D

Buy a lock and sit back and relax :D

Having a wee - Takes seconds, no reading material required

Having a poo - See above

Sometimes Ill take the laptop in there if I just want some peace and quiet, but Daz can be gone for hours.

its a lock on the actual door handle, but if you have very tiny fingers (like a 3 year old) you can turn it from the outside and open it.

I dont want to get a lock that is completely lockable from the inside, in case he traps himself in there (I did the same thing when i was his age, and stillscared of being locked in now :D )

On floor 3 at here (at work) there are plentiful Heat/OK/Cosmo mags in the lav :/

Sometimes I take my phone in to txt someone... but that's only when I REALLY don't have time!

*restrains herself from posting a picture of Picky on the toilet using his laptop*

;D

At the moment I cannot do anything other than concentrate on doing what I am there for and not passing out/dying mid way through :)

I have been known to take a newspaper or my focus magazine though - generally before I jump in the bath so I can take it in there too and read. Played on my DS too whilst using the toilet. And called people to talk to them.

I call people where ever I am. I think a few BDers have had me on the phone to them whilst I'm in a bubble bath :)

So no... it's not just a man thing. But men do seem to take longer and are smellier so imo need more distraction to keep them happy :)

Definitely! It's the perfect time of solitude, just sit there, read a paper, or a book, with no distractions. Especially at work :D

In fact, sometimes at work if its *really* hectic, phone calls flying about, deadlines etc, I'll take 5 minutes out, just go sit in the cubicle and chill for a bit, helps to just get out of the work environment :p

Yeah, imagine having work as a distraction! Just not my bag.

Not normally for loo visits but always take a book into the bath with me :) I'll text people when I'm in the bath too

It's been know for me to take the laptop in the bath to catch up on email and stuff. I got the position all worked out so even if it does slip it will fall on the floor rather than in the bath

It's a judgement call for me. Depending on what else I have to do at the time, I'll take nothing, or a book, or a laptop... whatever. I used to have an en suite bathroom with a mirror on the door. If the door was half open I could see the TV in the bedroom.

I never got around to seeing if I could invert the horizontal axis on my 360 controller...

Nothing better than to get a new copy of PC Zone, or Gamer TM and have a long sit eeking out as slow as you can to get maximum enjoyment.

My bogs full of books and magazines, but nothing beats a new gaming mag and a full tummy, i probably prefer it to sex.

I normally have a book in the bathroom that stays there. I have been known to spend 15 minutes on the loo due to being absorbed in reading.

I play solitaire on my phone, got it down to a fine art, and normally finish a game in around 80 seconds.

Snap. I very rarely take anything to read, so I either play Solitaire or day dream for a while. Very occassionally, if I'm in the house alone, I'll leave the door open and watch the cats trying to kill each other as they're very entertaining.

I live in a 3 bedroom house on my own & the Only place you'll find a book or magazine is piled up in front of the carzy, In fact there are 2 piles :p The only other books or mags I have in the house are packed away up stairs in boxes. For me crapping & reading go hand in hand.

*Not the person to borrow a book off* :p

The weird thing is I hate being in there for ages and have learnt to go at the last moment and erm, use some force. Even though, those 5 minutes go really slow so I have anything to read in there. I also find something if I have nothing e.g. spam leaflets sent through the door.

It's even a saying in our house that we're "off to read Private Eye"

You wouldn't need to do it if you had our cat. He loves sleeping in the bathroom! As well as following you in and sitting watching you do your business. Odd cat :p

If I go for a wee I don't bother shutting the door, Pebbles cat comes in and winds in between my legs ... ( Jamie wee'd on her tail once ;D )

But if I'm having a poo I'll shut the door, she sits outside meoowing to be let in ;D

Back to the original question, I don't take anything in with me. I do in, poo and then come out.

If I have nothing urgent I will take my time and take a book or my DS or the laptop.

Else if I want ot be quick then nothing.

I'm a speed ****ter. If I can't drop, wipe, flush and wash my hands in under two and a half minutes then I need to change my diet.

No time to read.

I spend no longer than 1 minute having a poo so I don't need reading material.

I have a nice range of reading material including an Iain Banks book. Is a strange thing tho.

We've got Clarkson's Born To Be Riled in the loo at the moment. A collection of pieces from his columns.

Ok so if I didnt need a wee when I went into the loo, I may well end up having one reading that.

I love a long relaxing spell on the loo. So much so that I get very annoyed if my sphincter opens before my book / choice of entertainment gets opened / booted up.
I normally have a book in the bathroom that stays there. I have been known to spend 15 minutes on the loo due to being absorbed in reading.

15 minutes is nothing. I've been lost to the bathroom for edging on 30 minutes several times. Occasionally longer - but this is rare.

I dont know why, but its just incredibly relaxing. I can poop quick, but if I've got be be leaving the house or doing something in 5 mins, I get nervous and cant go even though in theory I have more than enough time.

AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the delights of a leisurely poopeh... if it is indeed a man thing then you ladies are indeed missing out! ;D

Whether it laptop, book, magazine or newspaper the skimming of words easily takes my attention from the thought of fecal matter emerging from my body- I am working upon the ideal positioning of a laptop to incorporate the fan in some form of room ventilation/ anti-smell-roomy-doodah!

It's even a saying in our house that we're "off to read Private Eye"

"I'm off to free Nelson Mandella" is certainly the funniest variation on such exclaimation.

I always take a magazine in with me and annoyingly it seems to accelerate my dumping speed and I'm done before I've finished a paragraph :@

Hmm I was pondering the question I posed on Friday afternoon only last night. Last night I was sat there reading Fortean Times learning about the monoliths on Easter Island. Without said reading material, it would have been the usual SAS job(Get in, get the job done and get out again) however my body was in perfect harmony with my mind. A true Nirvana moment

There are always drawbacks to reading on the loo. You can lose track of time, plus there is 'numb legs' syndrome. I haven't experienced this myself, however my eldest brother face-planted after trying to stand up after a 30-minute read.
