We all have them, movies that you know are classics, hell, some are revered as the greatest movies of all time, but which classic movies haven't you seen that you know you definitely should have?
There are a couple for me, but the one that always comes back to bite me on the ass is "Stand By Me", the story by Stephen King and classic movie from the 80's featuring River Phoenix.
Now I know there is at least one frequent forum poster here that's definitely one worse than me because they told me last night - which gave me the idea for this thead.
So come on, which classic films are you ashamed to say you've never seen.

For me any of the God father or Rocky movies ;D
EDIT: if anyone saw my previous post, I just wanted to say "Hi I'm Leo and I don't read threads before posting" ;D
Cool, I provoked a thread ;D

I've never seen
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Graduate
Scarface
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Breakfast Club
I hear those films referenced quite a lot, whether that makes them classic or not I have no idea :p
To Kill a Mockingbird
I've not seen the film but the book's brilliant :)
The film I've not seen that Nokkon thinks is shocking is The Shawshank Redemption, no particular reason, just never got round to it.

I'd not seen it from the beginning till recently myself.

The Godfather.
"Stand By Me"

Scarface
2001: A Space Odyssey

Philadelphia is one I definitely need to see.
Citizen Kane is one that gets repeatedly mentioned when people talk about the best movies of all time, and the only bit I've ever seen is the twist.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Chinatown, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca... all films people talk about today that I've just never had the opportunity to see.
It's A Wonderful Life.
I'm told I'll love it and cry lots.
It's A Wonderful Life.

Gone With The Wind for me too. I am a bit of a movie buff, but could never bring myself to watch it all the way through.
All of the Godfathers
All of the Lord of the Rings
Usual Suspects - watched 3 times and fell asleep each time :/
All of the Star Wars :/

Can't believe people haven't seen The Breakfast Club or Shawshank Redemption.
You can buy both on DVD for £3 each!
Ahh but lots of people wouldn't buy a DVD they haven't seen, £3 or no!
I think we own all of the ones I've said I've not seen :o
Just from this thread:
Stand By Me
Godfather
Rocky
Philadelphia
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Graduate
Scarface
The Breakfast Club
The Shawshank Redemption - May have seen it, not sure.
Citizen Kane
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Chinatown
Gone With The Wind

I can't think of many "classics" I haven't seen with the exception of 1984 and Fritz Langs Metropolis

There's only 1 return, and it ain't of the king, it's of the Jedi.
I haven't seen any of the Rocky's either... the ones I mentioned are the most shameful.. I haven't seen alot of the films mentioned in this thread... most of them I haven't seen because they don't interest me and I am not that bothered ;/

I was going to say that I hadn't seen a 'meh winky' before, but it was too easily misinterpreted.

It's ok, you don't have to watch all of it. Once you've watched a couple of hours of "Walk a bit, fight a bit, walk a bit, fight a bit" you've seen enough to know how the rest of it goes.
12, I think you'll find.

Both brilliant films :) So get to it :D My Dad loved Fritz Lang so know quite a few of his films, need to watch more but not got the heart to at the moment. Soon though :)

There's only 1 return, and it ain't of the king, it's of the Jedi.Actually, ROTJ was originally going to be called Revenge of the Jedi, till a few weeks before release (or months). And what with ROTK being thought of and written before ROTJ, I think you'll find it's the King who's the only one returning in full glory. :p
I can see why they changed it. 'Revenge' of the Jedi totally undermines the whole Jedi philosophy, and I for one am glad we had to wait for Episode I before that happened.

Ahhh, the old story of "this one came first, therefore it's better ;)"
Doesn't cut the mustard with me. My Kevin Smith quote remains.
Episode 3 was the one with 'Revenge' in the title?
I wasn't referring to the title!
Edit: To be clear, I'm saying we were given the whole Jedi philosophy in the original trilogy, then they tore it apart at the start of the next with all the midichlorian rubbish etc.

The Shawshank Redemption - May have seen it, not sure.
If you'd seen it I hope you'd remember it, it is one of the greatest films of the past couple of decades, almost certainly one of the greatest ever.
Titanic
I've deliberately avoided this film on more than a few occasions now, it's got to the stage where the only reason I'll watch it is if I'm tied to a chair and even then I'd try and fall asleep instead.
There are quite a few films that I want to/should watch but haven't got round to because I fear I won't do them justice if I simply try and fit them in an odd couple of hours. Godfather Trilogy, the Dollars Trilogy, Citizen Kane, the Manchurian Candidate, The Magnificent Seven, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter and a fair few more that I can't remember just now. I actually own copies of most of them but it comes down to finding a suitable length of time and me being in the right mood to watch them all.
It's odd though, I've probably seen thousands of films thus far and for one reason or another I haven't got round to watching quite a few of the 'classics'. I only ended up watching Casablanca for the first time a few months back - big error of judgement not having watched it before.

True but with all due respect to the public I wouldn't put it at #1, both Casablanca and 12 Angry Men are better films. That is without including the films I haven't yet seen which could also supercede it. It is one of the all time greats but not the best as far as I'm concerned.

2001 is actually pap. Whilst it may be great cinematography, as a film it's just rubbish and you get to the end wondering what the hell was going on.
I think the same of much of Stanley Kubrick's work. I'll admit he was a pioneer and a great director, but he's a bit of an acquired taste. I'm not sure I'll ever acquire it though.

12 Angry Men is also one of my favourite films of all time, certainly in my Top 10. I couldn't, hand on heart, say it touches The Shawshank Redemption, just the whole story of TSR and it's overcoming adversity through the hardest of circumstances blows me away, the intracacies of the tale, amazing. Wasn't at all impressed with Casablanca myself though sadly :(.
Schindlers list is probably the only one i am ashamed i haven't seen. I will one day.
Have seen a handful of the above but certainly need to pull my socks up and see more!
Mei - I seriously need you to watch Star Wars!!!! It's SUPERB!
Girls always shame me for this but I have never seen...
Dirty Dancing.
Apparently this makes me not a woman!
I've only recently seen Top Gun too - which made Goose's name make sense. I just thought he was comparing himself to a feathery sqwaky flying creature :)
Also need to see's that I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Scarface (I have it on doovd!! I just haven't watched it yet!!)
The Great Escape (I always see the end on toovd! Grr!)
Breakfast at Tiffanys
Oh and if people haven't seen Scent of a Woman - SEE IT! Pachino is GENIUS in it :)

Fantastic, I can totally see why it's a classic.
Every word is a truth, and it portrays the "class" system in schools/colleges so well.
It's definitely a film I'll be watching again and again.
Except for the fact that Ally Sheedy looks like Gerard Way from MCR for the majority of the film.
Molly Ringwald, mmmmmmmm (not now though :p haha)
I think The Breakfast Club is one of my all time favourites.
I've tried watching Schindlers List but I just can't get into it, it's one I've sat down a couple of times to view but it just doesn't cut it for me, don't know why.

I've seen every film mentioned so far. I couldn't think of any that I haven't seen so I had a look at the IMDB top 50, only 3 I haven't seen. Only 2 of those do I think I really should have: Amélie and City of God.
What is City of God like as a film (without giving anything away)? It sounds like it could be quite depressing, but then maybe not? I only ask as I once watched a film recommended by others and whilst a very good film, I found it deeply unsettling and disturbing. In all honesty I wish I had never seen it.
Ladri di biciclette aka Bicycle Thieves , got it on dvd never got round to watching it, suppose to be a classic.
Once upon a time in America. Epic film.
The Dark Knight, didnt catch it at the cinemas but will watch it on dvd when its out.

Amélie and City of God
GIANT SLAP!!!!11
Amelie is very good, but the slap wasn't for not seeing that, what it was for was not seeing city of God. It is just a brilliant film, i wouldn't say it is depressing, it does have depressing moments but it is one of those films that makes you experience nearly every spectrum of human emotion. I'm not going to tell you anything more other than this: Watch it.

Amelie is incredible. The music, the colours, the acting, the story, it's beautiful in anyway - in fact it's the most beautiful film I've ever seen. Absolutely fantastic. Audrey Tatou is amazing in it, if you don't fall in love with her there is something wrong with you.
