View Full Version : Doggy Question...
...can lady doggies get preggers when they're not on heat!?
I don't really think our doggy is the preggers buuut since being in season her nips have become ENORMOUS and her boobies have gotten bigger recently!
Only time she has been around other dogs was when she wasn't on heat and stayed for a weekend with a family of dogs/dog breeders!
She's due to be spayed next Tuesday (as mean as I feel I've come to realise that a) she hasn't got great hips and I wouldn't want that to be passed onto pups and b) it can protect her from diseases and things) and just thought it would be pretty poo for them to do their stuff and find puppiewinklies in her belleh.
As for phantom pregnancies it well could be. Either that or she just naturally has huuuuuuuuuuuuge nipples!!
:)
Fankoo for helperoo!

She can't get pregnant as long as she was standing up.
Awww don't have puppies :p Then I'll desperately want one and we've already decided that sort of dog would be too big!
Phantom pregnancies are pretty common tbh, especially if she's stayed somewhere where hormones have been flying around! The vets will check first if you have any doubts Im sure :)

My dog was never ever pregnant, she would still leak milk at random times that werent connected to her seasons.

Did she have any "discharge" at all?
They can have something called a "silent season" but that's extremely rare.
If she was on-heat then the people who she spent the time with would have said something, as the other dogs would have been trying to mount her at every opportunity!
The vet should check before doing the op anyway.
She has had discharge of sorts a while ago but it's calmed down muchly now.
TBH... I think she just has big boobies and huge nips :p ;D
Not panicking was just curious! Will speak to the vets on Tuesday :)
*edit* And why is it everytime we get our local paper through the door I flick straight to the pet classifieds to see if there's another Trio bubba available.
Today there's an advert for what sounds like a perfect family puppy dog - well looked after and registered Ma and Pa (collie and lab) with good hips.
Man.
I want some money so I can have me a second doggy. I think Trio would be ecstatic too.
DAMN LACK OF MONEY!
I think as pebs said it may be a phantom pregnancy. Has she taken something and started to mother it? Sometimes they take an item and put it in their bed and protect it etc like it is a puppy too.
Yuuuuuuup.
Confirmed.
She has the phantom pregnancy.
Took her to the vets this morning as a check up of her stitches and he said it was just that and said she was milking slightly.
It's so very bizarre. It's her birthday tomorrow and so I went and got her a couple of prezzies. Upon coming home she realised there was something there so we decided to give her an early one/get well soon/happy halloween. It's a cute little fluffy thing which quacks like a dog.
She took it immediately and as opposed to going to her normal bed has "nested" in the beanbag with this little fluff ball next to her and has licked it to pieces whilst whining. She was literally shaking something silly when she got it too - never seen her that excited/shakey over a toy before.
Just made her dinner too and HAM vs Fluffy white toy.... the ham was ignored and the toy taken and she's now curled up on her bean bag again (after stomping on it a million times initially).
If it gets worse the vets said to pop back in and get some stuff for it.
Poor baby!!
You need to take the toy away. She wont get better while she has it unfortunately.
We have wondered that. I got it for her because it had a "less annoying" squeek in it. She does seem to be slightly infatuated though. Think bed time tonight might have it go away.
She's a little better today. Spent most of it curled up with myself and snoozing - not so whiney and isn't hording any toys!
Still not eaten anything though :/

Just be careful when thinking about getting a new doggy, Trio should be fine but she may get a little jealous. Coal can get jealous if Mia is getting attention and purposely goes out of his way to stop it, putting himself between you and her.
But right now they are happily snoring away in their beds (we are doggy sitting AGAIN).
I don't think we'll be getting another puppy dawg until after Christmas time - despite my impatient want for another now ;D
I'm pretty convinced she will be ace with another dog though! She gets on stupendously with Pickys Parents dog and I've never seen her react in a jealous way there :)
But yeh it's something we will have to be super dooper careful over :)
I think you need to post pics of your girl Pheebs :)

Can boy dogs get phantom pregnancies?
I know it seems a really blonde thing to ask, but Star (hes kind of my dog and kind of not) has this squeaky toy which he is obsessed with, he carries it round pretty much everywhere (unless hes off out for walkies) makes little beds for it, and nests himself round it. He goes to great lengths to make sure he doesnt stand on it, or be too rough with it himself.
Hes been done, but it just seems a bit OTT sometimes?
Or is he just gone in the head like me!
Bah I told Picky to edit that for me! ;D Yeh I was thinking "it quacks but looks like a dog"... ;D
I'll get some piccies up of her later on this week :)
She's muchos better - still a whinge bottom! Her boobs are shrinking and I haven't seen any milk for a day or two! Good news! :)
