So, other than Davey has anyone bought this?
I almost caved today, but bought FarCry 2 instead because I know Davey has Dead Space and kindly offered a loan, so I thought I'd reciprocate the favour and offer FarCry 2 upon completion.

From what I've seen of Dead Space it looks stunning, and I REALLY do fancy it. I've heard it's worse than Condemned, but oddly Condemned didn't really get me and I'm awful with the scaries, so don't understand why it never freaked me.

Being alone in Space however... that sounds scary.

So, has anyone else bought it and if so, what do you think?

It's fantastic, best game I've played for some time. The only downside is the length of the game, lots of people clocking in at around 10 hours and judging by my save file I'll probably be around that time when I get it done.

I don't have a bad thing to say about the game though, it's just quality right from the beginning.

10 hours is a good length though. It stops a game from becoming repetative and essentially ruining the experience. Max Payne 2 was 6-8 hours but I loved it so much because it maintained it's original story path without repetition, all too often games start to become a grind.

However, I am now annoyed having bought 3 games out today and not having this. Not heard a bad thing yet... Bugger.

You'll have to be 2nd in line, Nokkon will be getting it when I'm done with it :)

I can really only echo what Wyrdo has said, it's just quality from the start. Graphically sublime, it creates a wonderful atmosphere in that you know something is about to jump out and try to eat your face, but you don't know when or where it'll happen. It keeps you on edge because it'll throw you by giving you obvious rooms for creatures to be, then have them not appear. Just when you think you're safe, out something pops.

It's very much Resident Evil 4 in space though. There are a rather large number of similarities in the games, from the way you can upgrade your weapons, to making you upgrade your suit to give you more space to store things (like RE4 and the briefcase). In fact, if the game had herbs in it you could pass it off as Resident Evil: Space or something like that. Not that I'm complaining though, Resi 4 is in my top 10 games of all time so I won't complain about it being similar at all :)

Everything Dino Crisis 3 should have been then?
I saw on the PS3 front cover that PSW magazine said it's taken the mantle from Resident Evil 4, so it's obviously quite widely thought of for being like it, which is no bad thing as you say, but if it's better it could well be the surprise hit of the year.

I am enjoying it, but i feel it is like Doom 3, but in 3rd person.

Not that that is a bad thing, i liked doom 3 lol

LOL! :D

I started playing it at 8.30 and before I knew it it was 2.30am. :shocked:I was bloody knackered this morning.

Cracking game though. Really atmospheric and great fun so far. :)

I wish my nerves could handle it :( Sounds a brilliant game. Had the opportunity to review it but had to turn it down because i know it'd scare the crap out of me too much :o

;D It's not that bad. I had the surround sound on really loud so a few bits made me jump. It's so atmospheric though; you've got to try it.

Nah I'm notoriously bad with atmospheric games. Always have been.
Fine with 99% of creepy films, just not games for some reason.

Planning to desensitise myself with Condemned, maybe that'll help :D

Please video yourself playing Dead Space for me. If Wraithmarsh creeps you out, I want to see what Dead Space will do to you ;D ;D ;DSorry Davey, but i'm loving this game, even though i'm only on easy for a quick run through.

Bumpage. Finally set more time aside for this over Christmas, and managed to finish it, and I have to say that it's easily in my top 5 games this year, and is now quite possibly the best survival horror game you can buy, topping RE4. There are some genuinely scary moments and some enemies you fear facing, which creates some amazing tension. The ending is great, doesn't feel like an anti-climax, and leaves open plenty of scope for what I'm hoping will be a sequel of equal or even better quality. I think if you can handle scary games, you owe it to yourself to play this.

14 hours for a single playthrough according to my save file, though it can be done quicker as I tend to take my time and explore everywhere when I play a game like that. You can't get all achievements on a single playthrough though, you need at least 3 if you want to try to get the full 1k (which is achievable if you're good enough at the game).

That's pretty much what I was hoping for, so that's good. And I got far too many pairs of boxers for Xmas, so some of those need wearing in, which I'm sure Dead Space will do. ;D

What a fantastic game this was. For me it's the best survival horror game I've played. Stunning graphics, the best lighting I've ever seen in a game, a very well implemented story, great enemies. It's hard to fault anything really, and that's amazing, even the length of the game is spot on.

It also has the rare progression of a game where the levels often surpass the one before it.

Got it on the PC. Superb title as I said but it does get stupidly repetitive towards the latter levels, especially with the repeated use of rehued existing monsters and the whole 'oh noes I has lost a toilet handle, issac go find one' attitude to it. It got extremely predictable towards the end for me so I was glad it ended when it did.

Overall, a superb game that did make me cack myself a lot. Damn stunning engine from EA too, which surprised me heaps. I'm still kicking myself for not getting it on the 360 for easy single player achievements.

It's only ~£20 now Kainz. At the rate you give good technology away £20 should be nothing :p.

Quite tempted to look at getting it since my last 'new' 360 title iirc was Saints Row 2 and Gears 2. Hardly use my 360 for gaming anymore either.

I do love the DS trailer though, especially the music. It's on the marketplace and will reside on my HD forever :)

I got to around chapter 4/5 before moving on to some new games :o I should really get back to it as it was a stunning game. Amazing graphics and a atmosphere that would make the hardest man crap his pants!

NokkonWud

I got to Chapter 5 very slowly, almost 1 chapter every 5 days or so. From 6 to 12 I did in 24 hours, I felt that it was paced so well that the last half becomes a total rollercoaster ride, which was brilliant.

I was very similar to you when I went through it Karl, took ages to get through the first half dozen chapters then flew through the rest. When I get it back I'll likely go through it once more on normal to get all the achievements I can, then possibly attempt a playthrough on the Insane difficulty. I imagine it'll be stupidly hard but hopefully lots of fun as well.

Yeah, I've saved my game on the new hardest difficulty, going through my 2nd run through to upgrade all my weapons which shouldn't take long at all really as I know the game and am confident I could do it all in sub 8 hours.

Fantastic game really, I had a look at the DLC for it the other day - have you seen it all!! EA must be making a killing, there's about 20+ items for sale, it's ridiculous.
