I need some steel toes for at work. Plenty of places sell them online and in catalogues but where can I buy them on the highstreet? I really need to try them on before I buy them.

Looking for trainer style shoes with a steel toe and a nice soft sole inside because I've got a bad knee. My old DM's will cripple me in the time it takes me to burst my foot open under something heavy :D

schuh used to sell steel toecapped DM's in the high street.

If not there will probably be an Arco or somewhere near you, just go to there :)

Try finding your local workwear shop, they usually sell things like chefs outfits and surgery scrubs like this place http://www.hewats.com/

Can work not sort out something for you?

I wear Arco shoes at work, but they get ordered in the labs.

Didn't know you could get trainer style safety shoes with a steel toecap..

I wear Grafters on site, they put up with no end of soaking and mud abuse on urban and rough ground. They are like hiking boots and super comfy. They also do a trainer. http://www.hewats.com/prod.php?sec=2&pid=72

Machinemart, Toolstation and Screwfix all do good ranges of safety footwear. I like CAT boots myself and of course the safety versions are cheaper than the non-safety ones becaused they're VAT-free.

Yes you can.

Some Millets/Blacks stock them (Magnums & Gripfast)

There's the Magnum Classics:

The Magnum 8" Response:

The gripfast ones are trainer style, but there aren't any pics online as they are a Blacks Leisure Group product.

Shoulda just said that then, rather than posting the boots  (which aren't wanted in the first place anyways)

Should stop picking faults in peoples posts. I've noticed you doing that a lot lately... something on your mind?

They can but I'd rather get my own because I can pick my own. I'm in them all day up on my feet basically so I need the most comfortable ones I can find. Past experience in the wrong shoes is I'll get an injury from the boot itself long before it saves my foot from something falling.

Most of my chaps at work buy them from arco, but through the company they are given the catalogue and then just choose what they want. They all look Nike like with an air bubble and everything, but are black and fully certified safety shoes.

I don't know for certain but I rather suspect somewhere like HSS Hire or Hewden Hire shops will have some sort of suitable footwear choices, they might or might not be on your high street but I only mention them because there are a couple less than 5 minutes walk away from me so they are pretty much on the high street for me.

...or go to screwfix.com

The catalogue lists pages of boots, shoes and trainers - the DeWalt range is pretty good and not too expensive either:

I'm going to try Screwfix next weekend because one opened locally. Checked out Millets earlier but they weren't comfortable enough unfortunately. Hopefully those Dewalt ones won't be all wobbly and out of balance like the chucks on their battery drills :D

One word - "Makita" :)

Makita kicks ass. My grinder is Makita and it's taken a decade of abuse now.

You hear stories like that all the time about Makita stuff. Having said that, I've got a DeWalt SDS drill and it's been great, even doing OK on my 1920s house made of engineering bricks :D

Bang, that's the name I've been trying to remember for bloody ages!

Need to get hold of a 1/4" Router and was told to find somebody with a Makita one and borrow that :p

Isn't your company legally obliged to provide PPE?

He might be claiming them on expenses. I always buy my own and claim em back as the company standard ones are pretty pants.

best places are farmer type shops not the food places but the ones which sale all the smaller equipment and products.
