Once this city used to pulse with energy; dirty and dangerous, but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else. The changes came slowly at first. Most did not realise or did not care, and accepted them. They chose a comfortable life. Some didn't. They became our clients.

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror's Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith's world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run. From the makers of the groundbreaking Battlefield franchise, Mirror's Edge is an action-adventure experience unlike any other.

Move Yourself
String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.

Immerse Yourself
In first-person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.

Challenge Yourself
Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.

Free Yourself
Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running - what keeps you alive.

Also, for those wondering, the song often used is Shine by Alcorus (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GECvsV6AxKI), the original is Still Alive by Lisa Miskovsky (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=S3CNfBGRUrk).

As some of you may know, the Mirrors Edge demo is now available on both the PSN and Xbox Live. How many of you have played it and what do you think?

I've just tried it now and rather annoyingly, it's a triumph, meaning it's another game I really, really want. It was just rather fantastic and the whole experience is heightened by the simplicity of the audio, lack of music and graphic style.

I found that a bit of an experience if I'm being honest... Absolutely loved it.

Nice op :)

Epic demo, perfect introduction to the gameplay, characters, storyline and controls. Played it through 4 times now with the ambition of having a perfect run through (which i achieved on the 4th attempt). I never actually stopped, even the two guys you must fight were taken out by a sliding kick and a flying kick respectively so i kept momentum.

Can't wait, though i'll have to as i can't afford it.

NokkonWud
01-11-2008, 01:52
Aye, it's getting costly. Especially with Little Big Planet out just before.

At least you haven't just 'had' to get Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 as well as Fallout 3 and FarCry 2 :p.

Streeteh
01-11-2008, 01:53
I wish i could get fable 2 tbh :(

Best get saving for a 360. I would say wait for the January sales but I don't know if 360's will go any lower for a while.

I'd also like to commend the developers for their heroine design. Its refreshing to see a strong female that doesn't wear hot pants and have massive norks (i'm looking at you Lara), shes also far hotter because of this :p

Well, i doubt i'll have bought all of the christmas titles that the PS3 has to offer by January, let alone having the best part of £200 for a 360 too. I'm one of those students that isn't loaded :D Also, god forbid owning a 360, i have very little spare time as it is due to the games the PS3 offers, with the insane back catalog the 360 offers i'd never see daylight again.

She reminds me of the heroine from Fear Effect.

Played the demo.

+ Love the ambience, the music, the setting and character
+ Love the idea of the gameplay
+ The trailder/advert that was released a few weeks back is my favourite trailer pretty much of all time

- Must be an idiot but I just can't do the springboards, everytime it's been more luck than judgement. Do you have to jump to land on them then time a jump again? Was tired last night so I'll try again today. But do feel the precision being asked for is a little unforgiving with instant death always a single mistake away. Again, once I get more familiar with the controls I may change this view.
- I feel it might get a bit samey

Over all it was refreshing and I do feel once I get the hang of the controls it could become quite a fluid breathtaking experience I'd want to repeat. Not sure I'll buy it day 1 but I'll definately pick it up at some point.

Good OP :)

Quick tap LB. That's what I did and it worked.

The game will feel samey in the same way walking in a game is samey, or driving in a game is samey. As long as it's not too linear and with the additions of Time Trials it should really expand its longevity.

I also agree with you about the trailer which is why I posted the music :).

Great level design, awesome visuals and they actually pulled off the controls (I'd like a upside down Y axis though). I like the free running element and I can see once you get good at running and pulling off all the moves the game will flow really well, more so than the running in Assassin's Creed.

However, I would like the option of get to ground level if possible.

The demos trailer at the end seemed to hint at underground at least. Subway it looked like. I loved that demo. Really edge of your seat stuff. It reminds me of Crackdown in some ways. Are you going to make the jump? Loved the music. Reminds me of BT or Hybrid's recent work. It feels very Japanese too. Stylistically its clearly taken from Anime. Reminds me of Ghost in the Shell to some extent. I'm really hoping its no Assasins Creed though. Great gameplay element but not enough to really last for 8hrs. I really want to see more though.

One of the screenshots (this one (http://www.nokkonwud.com/images/games/xbox360/mirrorsedge/mirrorsedge03.jpg)) points to the underground too.

3rd time through now. I've noticed that there are multiple paths and I love hitting slow-mo just as you do a big jump.

I played through the demo again last night and found I was far more fluid than I was before. It's definately one of these games where sleeping on it and coming back the controls feel more natural.

Definately one I'l pick up once it drops in price.

My friend had this problem with his original 360 and it drove him up the wall.

News on DLC coming for Mirrors Edge:
EA and DICE today announced that they are planning to release Mirror's Edge's first downloadable content pack before the end of January for 800 Microsoft points.

The 800 points will give gamers the chance to set new times and race against the world's best and each other, on nine new races across seven "all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps."

Psymonkee

Finished this 2 nights ago.
What an experience it was. Some levels verged on being the most exciting game I've played, particularly those in the subway.

It also has an excellent Time-Trial mode which may actually be better than the SP campaign, the ability to check and more importantly, download the ghost performances of your friends (as well as the rest of the world) to race against is brilliant and the whole system is as easy as that from PGR2, which is still the best, most easy to use ghost download system ever.

This game borders on brilliance, fantastic. Everyone should play it.

It came for me yesterday along with Prince of Persia, and I haven't actually played it yet. Might stick it in for a play tonight after Lynnie has gone to bed (FPS games tend to make her feel sick with all the quick turns and spins). Hopefully I'll enjoy it as much as you obviously did :)

I've not completed it yet but still enjoying it :)
The end of Chapter 5 has given me a moment where I've wanted to smash the controller up into little pieces though, which is very rare for me! Usually I'm quite calm with games :o

Preferring it to Prince of Persia at the moment as I'm not so sure about the openness of Prince of Persia.

This would almost certainly make someone sick then, although there is no heads up display to watch, possibly having something to focus on is what makes someone feel sick?

I think the collection aspect of this works well. Three bags in every level, all with notifications of when they are near.

It's also got an incredible visual style, running through some of the office complexes it's one of the most recognizable games and arguably one of the most beautiful games ever made.

Wait until you play Dead Space then, it's one of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen, right up there with Gears, which is amazing considering it's running of it's own graphics engine.

Mirror's Edge is pretty in a whole new way, often a colour palette of simply green and white or red and white, completely different and it works. I caught a glimpse of Dead Space at a LAN and the lighting was mind-boggling.

Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Gears of War 2, Dead Space, Prince of Persia, all released within 2 months of each other and all arguably the best looking games of their generation. Amazing.
