Last week I did a job where a female in her 60s had her bag nicked and was very upset. I interviewed the suspect and sorted the job out and got the bag and contents returned.

Today I received a thank you card and a box of biscuits, which will be shared out at the station.

Isn't that a nice gesture. I was very touched.

A little tip for you - if the suspect sends you a gift don't open it - it'll be a broken vinegar bottle :p

Joking aside, it is nice when your efforts are appreciated :)

I would have preferred an Islay single malt.

I'm curious, does it happen much in the normal course of things?

It's good to hear it happens at least sometimes :)

The majority of people out there are good people.

Well.. both I guess would be interesting to hear :) Was originally meaning the latter.

The majority of people out there are good people. Yeah, but that makes for boring news and newspapers that don't sell

I would say I have had about a dozen thank you letters from members of the public and other agencies such as Social Services and Customs & Excise for assistance rendered, jobs done etc.

One other letter I received was from a woman whose son had mental issues and decided to up sticks and a hunt for him was launched resulting in him being found a couple of days later and I picked up the bulk of the inquiries. Common eand good communication was the order of the day and getting him found.

I also have letters from the DI for assistance in pro-active ops and also assistance in the investigation of a rape allegation by a 14 year old girls some years back.

The best one was for when I was policing election night in 2001 when I told a local councillor to wind his neck in for being drunk and using choice language and that he should know better. After ' Do you know who i am ' and ' I don't care, etc ' he shut up and stomped off in the huff.

I later received a letter from a rival councillor saying how good I was in dealing with him. Political point scoring I think.
