I've heard that it's copying Nintendo (it's not, content through games, better graphics, more modifiable and used as gamertag) and that it's copying Home (which will be out long after this.

I've heard it all before and much of it is massively uninformed.

If you can inform me that MS had the idea of using virtual copies of ourselves on games consoles before Nintendo did then I'd concede. But at the moment, it looks like Nintendo did it first. The fact it might be better and more integrated on the 360 doesn't take away from the fact that Nintendo did it first.

Lol, Whaddaya want? A B.A. Hons in the stating the bleadin' obvious? :D

Of course Mii's came before Avatars but creating a virtual identity wasn't exactly a revolutionary idea by Nintendo...

And it's not like Nintendo didn't copy Microsofts idea of a single id; but we'll brush that under the carpet...

It was done long before Nintendo did it too. :p.

Not saying it was, although I'm not a hardcore console owner, I can't remember another time when creating characters to represent you was used as a main console thing. Maybe in individual games, yes. But as a main feature in the way Mii's and Avatars are used, I can't think of anything.

If Nintendo hadn't have created Mii's, do you think we'd be seeing Avatars on the 360 now? I don't think so.

Yeah, they probably did. But we're talking about Mii's and Avatars.

No one was discussing Mii's. Hell, gamers haven't discussed the Wii in almost a year ;).

I love Nintendo more than anyone, but they've annoyed me massively with the Wii where they have turned their backs on the gamers who've grown up playing the NES, SNES, Gameboy's etc.. to garner interest from casual gamers only.

From a business perspective it makes sense, from a gamers perspective it's the highest act of treason, and for that they will continue to get a hard time til the rectify it.

'Proper Gamers' haven't gone near a console ever, stupid childish toys that they are ;)

But it's the console gamers who are playing 'proper' games. PC gamers often make do with poor exclusives or console ports now. I'm so sick of upgrading, tweaking settings, downloading patches that number in the hundreds of megs on launch days, updating sound and graphics drivers bi-weekly. If arsing about is 'proper gaming' then I'm much happier doing what I do and that's playing unbelievable games hassle free. :)

Funny you should say that as I have upgraded just once in three years, rarely need to tweak anything, patches i'll give you but console get those too now, rarely need to upgrade my drivers. Though on the upside we get higher resolutions, better graphics, mods, multi monitors etc. :p

What were you saying earlier about hearing it all before and most of it being massively misinformed? ;)

I'm not misinformed though. It's a rarity that someone 'rarely' has to upgrade video drivers, they often do on a monthly or so basis. I know that's the case with me and I seldom play PC games anymore.

Not tweaking anything... do you just play games at their default settings or tweak? I'm sure you know about all the tweaking and configs for something like Crysis and now Warhead. Games patches are criminal, often 100's of megabytes and more often than not on launch. Console games do get them now, although many are just installed after a new firmware update and aren't games content, the game patches themselves are still rare on a console, they notify and download and then install automatically anyway and they are never very big.
I've upgraded 3 years ago (and a graphics card this year) and graphically it's not at a state I like on games now. So for not tweaking stuff... I'm dubious.
You get higher resolutions - a console does 1080p, i.e. 1920x1080, now I know 24" monitors do that (as I use one) and I also know they're not cheap. The majority of gamers use 1280x1024 now anyway, which at widescreen is 720p, which is what consoles push natively.
As for multi-monitors, few games support them, so you're on about desktop usage - not really needed on a console is it :p. I use multi-monitors religiously because of what it is that I do.
As for better graphics, my GPU is 3 years old and it can't do what my PS3 and Xbox360 can, but a new card can better it, of course it can. However, as is often the case, PC games put graphics ahead of home user performance, something like Crysis looked stunning when released a year ago, however it's only this year on still expensive and newer hardware than the game has it become playable at a level where it can be deemed stunning. I played it on mine and had to knock the settings to a level where it was actually ugly to play and after playing it I can safely say that the graphics are the only reason that game is popular.

Of course I'll give you mods and I understand to some people it's a major draw, but I can count the number of mods that have been worth my time downloading them on one hand. Desert Combat, Counter-Strike and Rocket Arena 3 and all of those were released over half a decade ago now. When I buy a game I buy it for that games content, not for what might be possible in the future when I'll no doubt be playing other games.

I know I can sound arrogant, I apologise, it's the sin of the Internet, but I want to draw a line in the sand when it comes to people being uninformed, particularly about consoles and it's a real pain when blinkered PC gamers come across acting elitist and coming off sounding desperate to defend a format who's best years are behind it in the major, market driven gaming industry.

I'm only winding you up by playing the 'blinkered PC gamer coming across acting elitist' anyway because you're coming across exactly the same but about the 360 recently ;)

I wasn't actually just singling you out. It's a reflex action and something console gamers have had to put up with from that crowd of gamers (especially over on OcUK) particularly since console gaming became such a thread to PC gaming (2005).

I'm not elitist to the 360, I love all consoles. Heck, I own a Wii, PS3, Xbox360, PSP, DS Lite and PC, so I have all bases covered in that respect for this generation, and will again next-generation - this PC will get a full makeover for Battlefield 3.

People do seem to pick me out as being incredibly pro-360, and to some degree I am (such as its online service, its controller, how everything works so well with everything else etc..), but as a console I actually prefer the PS3 :p.

My preference of what to play is:
Xbox360 > PS3 > PC > PSP/DS Lite > Wii, so I'm not actually anti-PC, I just think that at the moment it needs a radical overhaul to bring it up to date with what consoles are offering. Adding something like the LIVE service to games, as seen with Fallout 3 recently, is the best thing in my opinion, but leaving it as an open service for modding like the PS3 or PC's currently.

Apologies if NokkonWud explodes or something though with the sheer volume of 'misinformation' present, it is done in humour :p

They've blatantly copied someone elses' idea. However, that's the way of the world, nearly everyone is copying their ideas from everyone else.

;D The last thing that was 'humourous' that I saw was the FarCry 2 video and that was just a slanging video.
