Just got through a speeding fine from North Wales police. Joy.

38 in a 30. £60 and 3 points.

Insurance renewal should be fun.

Well, I've joined the club I guess. :)

Sorry, but you should know by now that Welsh police are anal about speeding. :(

The odd thing was that my TomTom didn't pick it up, as it beeped and slowed me down for every Gatso I came across. Must of been a mobile camera disguised as a sheep. :D

Yeah they're obsessed about it. I figure it's the only way the welsh police can say they do anything :p

I speed right through Wales on every trip. I know where the cameras are and I keep a keen eye on the bridges. I guess I'll get caught one day but I'll worry about that then :)

Three points won't (or at least it shouldn't) affect your insurance.

*cough* motors *cough* ;)

I'm suprised i wasn't caught at all since i travelled right through as much of wales as possible for the BBQ meet.

Those roads arent really policed apart from the A55 etc up at the top.

Had we come down the A49 then... :(

They affected mine, so I thought "sod it" and got another 3 :'(

All 6 of my precious points were picked up in Wales. I've seen more speed vans there than anywhere else in the country... bastards!

Thats the route I took on the way though, so the same still stands :D :p

All 6 of mine were from moving house! So, when I moved a couple of weeks ago I don't think I did above 25mph just incase :embarassed:

Now my Dad's been done. Almost the same road. Another mobile one.

33 in a 30.

For ****sake. He's one the most careful drivers I know, he's been driving for over 25 years and has never been in an accident or committed any driving offence.

I'm due to drive in North Wales again next week and I'm terrified I'll get done again, I try to stick to the speed limit at all the times through there but when going down hills etc, it's hard to stay on the limit without having your eyes glued to the dash.

33?

Argue it. 10% etc etc.

iCraig
17-10-2006, 15:23
33 is 10% over the limit though isn't it. Right on the margin.

Just sheer bad luck and anal police. :( (No offence Von. :))

But that's the point. Speedo's are allowed to be 10% out by law, so his dial might have been saying 30. In fact I thought all gatso's were set at 34 because of this.

iCraig

But I thought the 10% worked the other way. That the speedo measures 10% faster, not slower.

When I do 70 on my speedometer, my GPS says I'm doing about 66-67.

So my Dad was probably doing 36-37 on the speedo.

It can be either way. Speedo's usually do read high though.

Cant underread by law but it must overread, by a maximum of 10%.

At any rate, the 10% thing only features in the Association of Chief Police Officers guidelines on speed enforcement. There is absolutely nothing that forces them to adhere to those guidelines. Brunstrom might be head of the ACPO, but he sure as hell doesnt follow the guidelines...

Check out Pepipoo and go down the PACE route.

Somehow I've never been done, despite being pulled over a few times.

I of course have never lost a police car on my bike ever.

Me neither. Although (purely in the interests of scientific research you understand ;)) I happened to notice that 2 wheels > 4 wheels with blues & twos going in heavy traffic. Until you come to traffic lights.

And my Mum recently got flashed - they'd moved the 30 mph limit back about 1/4 of a mile and put a camera right behind the sign. The limit the other side of the sign is 40, and the only thing between the old and new positions of the sign is a few fields so there's no argument that it is for safety reasons.

I've collected a grand total of 6 points from the Welsh police... bastards!

93 in a 70 :embarassed: - Was quite proud. I didn't think the 306 DT would even go that fast ;D

80 in a 70

Apparently North Wales police issue around 850 speeding tickets a day!

This year they contributed a massive 62% of total recorded speeding offences throughout the UK.

Accidents in North Wales however haven't dropped this year, infact they've increased by 3%.

Just goes to show really.

Of course, how could I forget? ;)

I really don't know how I've managed to not get any points up to now. I abuse the throttle on the bike something chronic (I hit the limiter in 5th last time I rode) and I'm not exactly a slow driver when I'm on 4 wheels. Guess it helps that I'm sensible about where I speed.
