The Vulcan is now being prepared to take to the sky. They have the money, they have the equipment, they have the talent, they have the time....

But for now - yesterday was officially the first time in 7 years that she had been out of the Hanger - so a big event was planned... and I went.

Before the pictures I'd just like to plug...

The Vulcan Operating Company (http://www.tvoc.co.uk)

and

The Vulcan to the Sky Club (http://www.vulcantotheskyclub.com/)

And finally...

A tribute to Sir Frank Whittle - without him the Vulcan would not be possible.

Would have loved to have been there for that, but I have no idea where it is. :(

Any video footage of the roll out? Highlights of the speech? etc.

"Bruntingthorpe is conveniently located near to Junction 20 of the M1 and nearby Leicester, Coventry and Birmingham within the rollings fields of rural Leicestershire."

From here (http://www.bruntingthorpe.com/about.htm)

There is also a running Vulcan at Wellesbourne, just off the A429, about 5 miles East of Stratford-upon-Avon. It doesn't fly but once a year they do a fast taxi run (like taking off but cutting out just before it gets to that point), they also run the engines quite often which is nice :D

I've got some video - yet to see what it's like though.

Bruntingthorpe isnt that easy to get too - a fair distance stuck on little country roads. :D It's where the Vulc will operate from though, fairly central so it makes sence.

There's also a Taxiing Vulcan at Southend - that one does fairly regular runs iirc.

Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden was the co-pilot last weekend actually. :D

Try this for a bit of video.

http://www.itvlocal.tv/

Select News and Weather on the top right.
Then choose - Meridian Tonight - South East - 31/08/2006

Just past half way though there's a lovely bit about the roll-out. :D

It's the only airworthy example of this aircraft in existance.
There's less than 20 left and at the moment they're all grounded. There's a two that do fast taxi's but they're not allowed to take off *although there is thoughts that the one at Southhampton has left the ground on more than one occasion.. ;)*

This will be the first 'complex' class aircraft operating in private hands. To make the CAA doubly nervous - it's a bomber that actually better than all of our current bombers - and it's nuclear capable.

It's a piece of our aviation history - the Avro Vulcan is our last heavy bomber. It's also one of the last aircraft to be a complete British design.

It's also better than the American's attempts. :D

It was also our last heavy bomber to see combat. Falkland Islands on the Black Buck missions.

The main reason though is as a flying tribute to all the servicemen who served throughout the Cold War. When this aircraft flies there's going to be a mobile education center going around with it teaching about the cold war *as thats now on the National Curriculum as well*

Can I just say....

BASTARDS!!

Generally I'd be pretty pleased about people wanting to use my photo's and would generally let them use them if they credited me with them.

IF they ask.

However - compare the bottom two images on this ROYAL AIR FORCE web page

http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/news_0609_06.html

With...

and

Look pretty similar?

What do you reckon I should screw them for? ;)

So where did they get them?

Dunno - went up on 4 forums.

TVOC, OcUK, Hexus and here...

All have my email or PM's available...

So whoever it was really didn't want to get my permission...
