You can get them for £17 in-store at Grainger Games Wyrdo. I think there is one in Darlington. £16 and change on ShopTo.net instant delivery, but they may still be sold out.
Blockbuster also stock them at £17.50 which isn't bad if you've got one near you.
I'll just stick to Asda then :p £14.91 delivered! Was just wondering if there was a better deal than that.
I used zavvi and quidco. A little cheaper than that asda deal but not much.
Is it true they are getting rid of the points system soon?
You'll be able to use real currency to buy titles from 'games on demand', but I dont believe that will be extended to the rest of the marketplace, at least not initially.
live-codes sent me an email this morning they have lowered their prices
We have just reduced our prices on most Xbox products, these prices are as follows-
3 Month Xbox LIVE was £13.49 now £12.99
12 Month Xbox LIVE was £28.99 now £27.99
2100 Xbox Points was £17.49 now £16.99
Also if you visit http://www.frugalgaming.co.uk/ they have a code for an additional 50p off the above prices, not too shabby and you get an instant email with the code in.

I met up with some friends the other week and this chap was there too who's a complete and utter old man perve (beyond belief - he'll hit on anything with two legs and a pulse) I was wearing shorts - first time he's probably seen me with my legs out and he instantly beelined to me:
Pervy Dude: "PHWOAR look at you!! Jesus lady, you've made my heart flutter! In fact.. look here" *shoves his watch in my face and flicks it to the heart rate per minute bit* "It's at... 115bpm!!! That's your doing it is!!"

Quite tempted by Fallout 3 despite having it on the 360.

Xbox Live 2100 points - £14.73 Delivered - The Hut (Quidco available @3%)
http://www.thehut.com/hut/10021725.product
Is it true they are getting rid of the points system soon?
I don't see how they could without giving a favourable conversion rate to people who already have them. I have 12000+ points on my account. I wouldn't mind if they credit me with RRP on those points in a conversion.
Its a stupid system anyway, as are live cards. Why bother mailing boxes and selling them instead of just selling themselves over live for a smaller amount.
Without shipping and third party mark up they could and should be selling 12 months themselves sub £30 and better value points cards.
The MS points things shows us one of the big un-addressed potential issues with digital distribution in general for me - where does the competition come from?
Competition on the high street/web means you can get MS points cheaper than from MS direct - even with the manufacturing and distribution cost of the cards, which is as you say, bonkers - but it's like that because there is competition in their marketplace. In 3 years time, if the publishers get their wish and digital distribution has taken off well and been broadly adopted/accepted by the majority of console owners, under the current system (a digital marketplace per platform) we as consumers are going to be disadvantaged by the lack of competition.
I hope Microsoft's experiment with Amazon is deemed successful and is adopted not only world-wide (US at the moment), but eventually by Sony and Nintendo and beyond into the next generation - create the digital high street for gaming, and integrate them directly into the consoles. Because if they dont, then some government somewhere will force regulation upon them anyway, which is painful for all concerned.
At the moment we're probably just taking a bit of early adoption pain, but so long as it works out in the end I can live with it (read: mostly make my purchases where there is competition for my money).

Oh, on the topic of bargains, took advantage of the Steam offer for the weekend and picked up Fallout 3 for £13.49 which is just a bargain. Runs much better on my PC than I was expecting, so that's a result.
Patching it and linking it with my Live account was a total PITA though. Took 4 attempts for the latter to work (which also resulting in me having to start the game again - I was just about to leave the vault before realising it hadn't linked after it had told me).
Oh, does Fallout 3 use GFWL?
I've not bought it yet, if it does, it can sod off.
NokkonWud
05-07-2009, 12:03
Yes it does. It's a great system for Xbox360 (but then again, it feels more natural and not so tacked on as it does with GFWL) but because it's not the standard it was a bit of a pain to begin with. I wish all games used it then it would be much easier.
But I wouldn't let that put you off a fantastic game. I've spent about £85 on it all told :p.
PC version, Xbox360 Collectors Edition and 3x DLC. :o.
On steam, it mentions needing GFWL for online play - which I probably won't bother with, can it be run without GFWL offline?

GoW > NG > DMC for sure.
It's a close call to be sure, but I'd put it in the order NG > GoW > DMC. God of War is just awesome, when the 3rd game comes out it will tempt me more than ever to get a PS3.

GFWL is free though. And I started playing without actually signing into GFWL at all.
I know its free, it's just a thoroughly horrible piece of software that seems to serve no actual purpose unless you also own a 360. If I don't need to sign up to it that's bearable I suppose.
I've bought it now, just waiting for the almost 6GB download at 400KB/s :(

Blockbuster's pre-owned deal of the week games wise is Fallout 3, Farcry 2 and Quantum of Solace for £9.95.
Fallout 3 is obviously worth that price, QoS I would say is as it's decent fun for the price. Not played Farcry 2.
If it's anything like the store I'm at, they don't seem to be making much of a fuss about it display wise so have a look about. :)

Steam Weekend Deal GRID @ £7.49
What is this game like? Is it simply a racer or is there an interesting level of customisations/tweaking? Is there a compelling career or similar style mode?
It seems like a bargain price, and for a game who's name I've seen bounding around alot - I'd like to hear some opinions :)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12750/
Streeteh
10-07-2009, 17:43
I'd say it's certainly worth that price. The handling is just plain stupid (but fun if you're in the mood!) but i really liked the way the career mode worked. You had several methods of building reputation and making money from anything to switching off driving aids in a race to using certain sponsors. The teammate driver mechanic is quite good too.
I really liked the demo, I never did buy the full game.
I've been keeping an eye out on Red Faction: Guerrilla for a price drop and play.com have dropped it to £17.99, but for the PS3 only ... goddamnit... thought I'd still mention it though :)
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/5211744/Red-Faction-Guerrilla/Product.html
GRID on the 360 was great, loved playing it. There's not much in the way of setup on the cars but it seemed to have a bot more to it than the average arcade style racer.
Argos have currently got 20% of all game preorders. Not sure what the catch is but it seems like they've just started doing this service and it might be a limited deal.
I've nabbed Dragon Age: Origins for £28.79 and Red Dead Redemption for £27.59 so far with Halo ODST and possibly Forza 3 next.
Go to argos.co.uk, the code is GAME20 and do the games 1 at a time. Not sure if they're taking the money right now though, so need to keep an eye on it.
With some games (Rock Band Beatles) it adds a delivery charge even though it should be free. They must be ironing out some bugs atm
Anyway, Halo ODST just ordered for £29.19 and Assassins Creed 2 for £29.59. :D
Not sure if they're taking the money right now though, so need to keep an eye on it.
Saw the promotion via HotUKDeals and somebody seems to think that Argos are indeed taking money now and shipping later. Still unsure if it's true or not as I've only ever pre-ordered my 3rd launch day 360 from them back in October 2005 and no money was taken at the time IIRC.

Ebay really is a bargain for live codes but iirc there was an issue with people selling generated codes which were then flagged and removed from peoples' accounts. I haven't heard about it happening in over a year now though so i imagine it's perfectly safe, i'm just a wimp.

Aye. I got my latest from play.com playtrade for £25.50. Really does work out quite cheap and with 1 vs 100 and the various gold members deals (I saved 1200 points on Penny Arcade and N+ alone) it's starting to pay for itself.

I'm gonna agree with Nokkon, they aren't as good as they once were, but they're still very good for their price range. The 32" Sony my sister owns is great for the money she paid (£399 about a year ago). For £500 that TV is still a steal, it's just not a Kuro or anything, but what do you expect for that pricing! :)

I wouldn't say they're superb, they're average at best at overpriced (though this particular one obviously isn't) for the features you get.

Sorry but I've seen nothing but good reviews for the Sony Bravias - they seem to be regarded as one of the best LCDs out there in general.
Not sure which exact model this deal was for but suspect it may have been the V4000 which I have and absolutely love.
I couldn't really agree with that. They maybe stopped making top of the line, but their TV's are still superb.
Now they're famous for being over priced. You can pretty much always get better for the price or equal quality for less. They're far from being top of their game in any respect any more.

Of course reviews are always unbiased and accurate, aren't they?
Like I said, I can only base my opinion on first hand experience that friends and family members have had with Sony TV's in the last couple of years and based on that experience I wouldn't touch Sony with a barge pole.
You have a Bravia and are happy with it - good, but I'd be more likely to buy some unbranded TV than a Sony because they are essentially the same thing (I guess you know that most TV's irrespective of brand are made of the same components and and usually in the same factory on the same production line?) and would cost less.

The w4000 and w4500 were two of the best 40 inch LCDs I've seen. The new replacements are crap though.
Not sure if it really qualifies as a bargain per se, but for those of you like me who've been holding off on the Fallout 3 DLC you can now preorder the goty edition which comes with all 5 dlc packs for £29.99 from game.co.uk.
You can use then use 'TD0519' for another £1 off and can also get 6% with topcashback.
It's due out sometime in October.

The things I've read have had it nowhere near as good as the outgoing sony models. Upto 80ms input lag imo isn't acceptable for a supposed leader in it's class.
I didn't like the look of it compared to the outgoing models either but thats purely personal.
I'm sick of them launching new tv's every 6 months instead of actually addressing the issues in a panel before banging out the next.
This post from avforums always rings true for me....
"I'm not sure about anyone else, but I'm absolutely sick to death of TV manufacturers rolling sets off the production line with quite serious problems and taking the "no one will notice" attitude. We're now into 2008 and the top manufacturers are harping on about 24p, 200Hz, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratios etc etc, but why the HELL are they doing this when they can't even get the basics right? Maybe they should concentrate more on improving their current technology rather than panic rushing out the next best technology to out-do the opposition.
This isn't just Sony of course, they're all just as bad as each other. We have Sony with clouding/backlight bleed, Pioneer 8G Kuros had ghosting issues I think it was, LG plasmas have serious image retention issues (which I am having a nightmare trying to get mine changed ongoing for over a month and counting), 2007 Panasonics had snake effect, Samsung LCDs have backlight bleed issues, Samsung plasmas have red sparkles, Philips have input lag and only 1080i support on a full HD resolution set, Sharp has banding issues etc etc. The list goes on, and the one thing these all have in common? The manufacturers refuse to accept this is a problem. There needs to be a regulator introduced to stop this nonsense. They have been getting away with this for far too long now.
I'm in the market for a new TV and I cannot think of a single LCD or Plasma that does what it's supposed to do. They all have issues, and the problem is, most of them appear to be pretty significant. I wish manufacturers would understand that a TV set is one of the most important and expensive purchases a home owner will make. Their ignorance towards the general public and refusal to accept that there is an issue absolutely infuriates me to no end. All they are interested in is rolling out as many sets as they can in the shortest amount of time, adding some features and bogus figures to make it look more attractive in the market, and keeping their big, fat, greedy shareholders happy
If someone knows of a set that doesn't have any serious issues where you can watch SD in decent quality, not worry about screen burn, banding, clouding, input lag, backlight bleed, dot crawl, posphur trails and ghosting please let me know, because that will be my next purchase."

I picked up a Rock Band 1 drum kit in my local HMV (Reading) for £19.99. They had Xbox, PS3 and Wii on sale.
Obviously they're getting rid of their stock in time for Beatles Rock Band, but for £20 I thought it was worth a punt.
Strangely I picked up one for myself two weeks ago and then went back and bought two more for friends last week and unless they're restocking the pile they're not shifting.
No idea if other HMV stores are participating obviously.
I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks :)

I use them a lot because the foreign import shops in Japan are OTT with their pricing!
I don't know if it matches up for cheapness in the UK, but could be handy for those who want to import Japanese games!
Incidently, asian versions of 360 games are exactly the same as the US version but are usually around $15 cheaper!

Yeah, it's a phenomenal deal. I know Creature already got one because I was with him when he did :p. If you divide it down as:
Forza 3: £40
Fifa 10: £40
Batman/Pure Bundle: £10
120gb HDD: £100
Then you're actually paying £10 for an Xbox360 w/ a Black wireless pad. It's a really good deal and people with just a standard premium could buy it, sell all the games, sell their console and actually end up in profit and with an Xbox360 Elite.
The games do come sealed too, so you wouldn't have a problem selling them on at full price or very close to that.
I think you're right Andy, I can definitely see Fifa 10, Modern Warfare 2 and an Elite for £200 being Microsoft's target price over Xmas. They may even throw in 3 months of Live or something to really sweeten the deal as they're two monster online titles.

I cocked it up the first time and recoved my profile to the elite, then when I went to put the old HDD in the Elite it said I couldn't and had to recover the profile again, I did this, copied everything on to the mem card from the 20Gb and then from the mem card to the 120Gb and recovered my profile for the final time to the elite, took a few minutes and I had to DL my few arcade games and a couple of avatar accessories.

That's what's getting to me, TV; black, PS3; black, surround sound; black, PS2; black, 360; white.
Same here, I guess. My setup is black and silver. I also have very little on the 60GB HDD I've got.
It's shiny new toy syndrome I guess ;D
My 360 looks alright anyway as it's got a darker faceplate :)
Shiny new toy works for me. ;D
... but the black exterior and controller (even with my nasty cream battery pack are slick :)
because it's new and it's a nicer colour :o

Heh, my 120GB is nearly full. I need the super elite ;D
I'm waiting for MS to release a slim one (with natal maybe), then I'll be tempted. Old one can be a Sky Player box upstairs then.

The other excuse I used is that my old console is now a year old so changing it will make things easier if something does go wrong with it from an exchange point of view. Last time a 360 died on me I couldn't be bothered with the effort of sending it back and fighting to get it fixed for free so I bined the core and bought an arcade and stuffed the old 20Gb in that, didn't even change the power and video leads for the new ones, just the console and power pack.

My only real excuse for getting the Elite was the colour too. What a whore.

Interesting. I was at Teesside Park and there is a sign outside now with them matching the deal which will work for those wanting to trade towards it (of course, this means you can't transfer your data).
But GAME will match it now.

You have to now I think, the new PSU is so much smaller. :D.

Right, just traded a whole load of old games, the new games I got with the Elite, my old console, HDD and memory card and got ~£230 with £100 credit and £130 cash. As I wasn't using any of the old stuff I call that a £35 gain, at least I will when I justify why the 360 has suddenly turned black to the wife :D

Not the best bargains I'm sure as they are oldies but saw a couple decent pre-owned ones in Game,
Too Human for £4.99 which I'm quite enjoying at the moment (except for the dying animation...gahhhhh)
Bioshock/Oblivion double pack for £9.99

I am very tempted with this, also seen a pretty good offer on HMV for the Elite. Very very tempting. Eeek

She wouldn't have noticed unless I told her, shes just not interested in these things, the only thing she might have noticed was the colour

A couple of Tesco Entertainment deals:
[360]
The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian £3.97; I mentioned it to Jen and we're going to playthrough together (Mrs Abooie Jen this is).
The darkness £6.47; an absolute bargain for a superb game.
I started reading that and thought 'eh?!' ;D
I quite liked Prince Caspian, nothing amazing but it was ok :) For £4 it's fun enough.

Must have been a mis-price, back to £40 now.
Weird - it was sent to me in an email by Play.com themselves as their today only offer.
Guess they changed their minds!
Borderlands £22.99 at gameplay.co.uk
Despite already having enough games I couldn't resist at that price.
Another one...
I just came back from Tesco with Ghost Busters [360] for £24. Again, couldn't resist.
20% off 12-month Xbox Live Gold subs until 5PM on 24th November - for current Silver members only and must be ordered via the console.
Still cheaper to order online if you can find someone with stock, but £31.99 isn't a bad price and is cheaper than the high street.
I'd consider it if I didn't already have an unused 12-month card sitting here.

You can still do it then add the 12 month card. You won't need to worry about it then for two years...

Not bad, I got mine for £26.99 earlier this week, didn't realise my sub was about to expire.
Well, spill the beans then. Where from? :p Saving £5 isn't to be grumbled at. :)
How about the Forza 3 LE premium theme for free?
