A new thread for the latest bargains, seems better than making new threads all the time.

Anyway, best bargain of the gaming year perhaps?...

Deal: Xbox360 Wireless Controller, Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda
Price: £24
Where: Asda (In-store only - ask at counter)

Asda are actually selling Wireless Controllers on their own for £32. My mate bought 2 of these deals last night.

Davey_Pitch
19-11-2008, 23:32
Bloody hell, that's a corking deal. CEX would buy Lego Indy and KFP for a combined £23, making it £1 for a wireless controller. Shame I'm not going to Asda any time soon.

NokkonWud
19-11-2008, 23:34
I forgot to say, Indy and Kung Fu Panda are a joined double, like the Forza 2 and Viva Pinata doubles seen in shops.

It's amazing considering Indy is hardly an old game (nor is KFP) and is actually very highly rated. If Xmas wasn't coming and I had a disposable income I would buy one because my right trigger squeeks on each and my left joystick is dodgy-ish on one of them from over use.

One other way of getting it cheaper:
Their Christmas catalogue that should be at the entrance has a £2 off voucher for pre-owned games, so £10.99 with that :)

My mind is completely blank for the rest of the display, think I was focusing too much on lining up dvd boxes :o

The Darkness is part of it, I know that much :p.

Actually it's not :p
It's in the 5 for £25 range not the 2 for £18 range anymore.

In case anyone other than Davey's interested. From memory, the 2 for £18 range in my store consisted of:
Alone In The Dark
Call of Duty 2
Condemned 2
Conan
Dirt
Grand Theft Auto IV
Halo 3
Jericho
Need for Speed: Pro Street
Oblivion
PGR4
Test Drive Unlimited
Timeshift
Tomb Raider Anniversary
World Championship Poker

and some others that have just left my brain :o
Tbh from what I saw, the best were GTA4, Alone In The Dark and PGR4. However, I'd recommend buying 2 GTA4s and trading one in as supposedly HMV give £18 trade in which Gamestation will have to match :D
So for £18 you get GTA4 and erm £18 :D

Dee just went into Game to pick up Lips for me. I gave her Darkness and Gears or War Original (Classics) to trade, just to get rid of them. Couple of quid for the Darkness, whatever, scan's Gears through..... pauses.... call manager over..... more pauses... Trade in value £20  They sell it for less than that ;D

Obviously a mistake but if you have it, give it a punt :) Guy who worked there was apparently going to do the same ;D

Haly
23-11-2008, 20:42
Definitely :)
I've just picked up 2 copies of GTA4 to see if HMV are still doing a good trade in price for it :D

Haly
24-11-2008, 17:57
I can confirm that HMV are giving £18 trade in for GTA4. Meaning I got £36 credit for £18 :D
Not bad really. Essentially it means you can get a brand new game for half price, in my case I got Quantum of Solace after much thought for £1.99 plus the £18 for the 2 GTAs so all in all, cost me £19.99. Not bad at all.

I was thinking about it on the way home, and I reckon you could turn a profit if you really wanted to/had the time. Do what I just did then trade it in somewhere else. I'm guessing a brand new game would fetch £30 or so trade in, so a profit of £12. Not a huge amount obviously but still not bad.

Anyway, ramble aside: means you can get a new game for half price :D

Why do Sony never price cut a console but rather just force you to buy 3 games.

Just price cut the PS3 to £240

Believe it or not I'm not going to bite. Listening to the latest 1UP show and 1UP FM they don't have a single good thing to say about it. They mention fights can last up to 2 hours, glitches and bad framerate so I think I'll give it a miss for now.

I was just about to buy Far Cry 2 for the PS3 (£17.99) and it's gone from the Mega Monday listing!

Of course you can still buy it for full price, £39.99 but I thought the fact that it was advertised as part of the "Mega Monday" deal, would mean that it should be available at the stated price for at least, well, Monday.

It's a bit irritating that you can buy the steel box version for the XBOX at the offer price of £17.99.

Left 4 Dead is one of the few games I've not see go cheap along with Rock Band 2 and Dead Space.

I believe ShopTo are the cheapest at around £37. There are a lot of people here getting it close to or for Xmas, so I would recommend you wait and attempt to hold out for a bargain. I'm hoping the supermarkets go mad just before Crimbo.

I would have contacted them about that if they are showing it as in-stock at full price £39.99.
I did. They said it must be a web site error but they're going to follow up on it for me. I don't believe it's an error though. If you look now, there are only 32 items listed compared to 36 this morning. I reckon that they've pulled the most popular ones which is a bit crap if the sale is defined by the word, "Monday".

Maybe the wholesale price for the PS3 version was more and the margins didnt work for them :dunno: Or maybe it just was a mistake. S**t happens.

If they're making money on it and they're selling loads, no business would change/break that on purpose.

I've never had much trouble with play, they always seem to take at most 4 days or so for a delivery to turn up. I ordered something on Saturday night and got an email to say it had been dispatched Sunday (I'm guessing they meant Monday) and it arrived today. Last few things i've ordered have been that quick, maybe it depends what it is.

I would have thought they'd want extra for it, trade in prices never tend to be as good as you'd like them to be. Try HMV, Gamestation and CEX too if you're able to, as trade in prices vary quite a lot :)

I live in a small village which means I get my post about 2 o'clock each day. My sorting office closes at 12 so if I'm not in, it will take an extra day.

As preorders quite often come on a Friday, that means Monday.

I know all my preorders with game, zavvi, tesco and play.com will pop through onto the letter box on Thursday whether I'm in or out. :)

And I also won't be fobbed off with a Euro knock off with "Not for sale in UK" on the back as I did with my last shopto order.

Personally I'd rather pay a couple of quid more, or even drive down to Tesco than use shopto again... Being late or slightly more expensive I can tolerate but dishonest and rude I can't.

Never from ShopTo. Never had it later than Thursday. Sorting offices are open weekends too ;).

I know all my preorders with game, zavvi, tesco and play.com will pop through onto the letter box on Thursday whether I'm in or out. :)
From Play? Really? Never has here, I've always waited til release at earliest, usually they arrive the next week. You won't be getting any pre-orders at all from Zavvi for now either :p.

And I also won't be fobbed off with a Euro knock off with "Not for sale in UK" on the back as I did with my last shopto order.
It is stated on the site. I can see it annoying some people, but as I very seldom trade and just sell, keep or give games away it's never posed a problem.

Personally I'd rather pay a couple of quid more, or even drive down to Tesco than use shopto again... Being late or slightly more expensive I can tolerate but dishonest and rude I can't.
Dishonest? I don't know what that's about but I've never had a problem, they even delayed all orders 10 minutes so that I could make one once. I couldn't knock them and I'd say their customer services is the best I've dealt with alongside Gameplay's.

Each to their own of course, but I wouldn't use Tesco online (awful customer services) or Play (awful) again unless it could be helped and Zavvi would need a wicked price error, same for HMV.
If I don't use ShopTo it will always be Gameplay, Game, Gamestation or Amazon.

Saying that, I can see why bad experiences with Customer Services can put you completely off a company.

From Play? Really? Never has here, I've always waited til release at earliest, usually they arrive the next week. You won't be getting any pre-orders at all from Zavvi for now either :p.

To be fair I haven't pre ordered from play for a while (maybe a year) but I haven't had a pre order after thursday from anyone other than gameplay for quite a while now; Zavvi, Tesco, Game.

It is stated on the site. I can see it annoying some people, but as I very seldom trade and just sell, keep or give games away it's never posed a problem.

The email and site note was sent out after my preorder was sent out. Also I really shouldn't have to look at the small print to see that the product I purchased wasn't legally allowed to be sold in the country I purchased it from. There should have been a bigger disclaimer and I'm sure if I took the case to trading standards they'd back me up.

I'd used shopto before and been happy and I'd also used their 2nd hand service when it was just being set up (helped them on the forums with it). I'm not even that annoyed they sold me an un-sellable copy. What annoys me is that when I brought it up with them and kindly asked for an exchange or refund they told me to "be more careful on the internet and sod off".

I dont think they can. Sony recently increased the price of everything else (TV's HI-FI etc) to compensate for the weakening pound, but left the PS3 as it is. I guess that's the best we're going to get for a while.

Even last week David Reeves said “No we are not going to go down in price; neither are we going to go down in price on PS3 in spring time either. Absolutely not, whatever you might have heard to the contrary."

I need a new 360 and cannot decide to go for the arcade or the 60 gb. I will sell everything off apart from the console and power brick.

If you're not buying for the first time (ie replacing a dead one, or having a second one) I'd just get the Arcade. It has a wireless controller (it was the old core's that had wired ones), a 5 arcade game disc bundle and memory card to flog.

Well, possibly. If you get the new Jaspers the memory is internal. But that does have the 65nm GPU so should be pretty solid.

Anyone know what Rock Band (solus) would get trade in? Pondering exporting the tracks and putting it towards 2 (definitely know Lips mic support is coming, and we've recently bought No Doubt's Singles Collection and The Color And The Shape for it, kind of invested now :o)

Puzzle games are good. Very good in fact. I'd quite happily grab the likes of Uno off XBLA for example (if it's still there).

As I've been saying for about two years now I was planning on picking up a Wii (probably next April/May), but now given the Xbox360 prices I'm really just not sure. I'd probably get the 60GB as the Elite doesn't seem worth it.

Woolworths is a total crock. Don't bother.
£230 Elite, £170 60GB, £130 Arcade, all with 10% off. 10% off the 60GB brings it down to £153. However, I don't know if they bothered re-pricing for the VAT cut, so it might actually be £149.74. I did spot another poster which suggested they included some sort of free game (no idea what the game was though).

No, I didn't get one. Did get some other bits and pieces but it was like a war zone in there.

Nope - you're not the only one that thought that. Everyone (including me) seemed to be going in with the expectation that most stock would be 50% off, when in reality most was 20% off with entertainment 10% and some other stuff 30% off. I don't think I saw anything actually priced at 50% off. :/

Anybody that needs to save a few quid & not suffer bargain bucket brands needs to check the Reduced section in Tescos Before they go to work.
When we are on night shift we move any stock we find that has a reduced sticker on it to it's special little section & the manager stickers up all the other knock down stuff.
Fresh stuff is the best deal mainly but it is not the cheap stuff. Recently I've noticed loads of that Tesco Finest stuff up, 4 quid heavy filled steak & ale pies thick & crusty for less than a quid sort of thing. Nice pieces of Steak from 8 quid to around 2-3 quid, perfect for a choice stew I'd say.
Seems to me it is all about learning the timings of your local store & adjusting your shopping times to suit, You could quite easily save yourself 30 - 40 quid a week on your shopping by making a small adjustment & you wouldn't suffer in quality either. The cheap stuff flys off the shelfs so is hardly ever reduced, It's the expensive fresh stuff that sits on the shelf long enough to be reduced. All the Fresh shelfs are chilled properly & they are sold Before the date is out & we are only talking about them sitting on a chilled shelf for maybe 2 days & then sold the day before the date is up.
It'll be easy for me as obviously I'll just shop on the way out after a shift but hopefully some of you lot will be able to take advantage in your own local store, I would have thought that All stores do it no matter what company.

Tempting....quick Nokkon, tell me if it's worth £25 and for my main Christmas present :p

From first impressions it wouldn't be worth £40 purely on length, though it does require 2 playthroughs (1 for all 1001 orbs and another for sub 12 hours). For £25 it's possibly worth a punt, every area of the game has improved from my first impressions and movement is becoming a lot more responsive (although the annoying jump problems from Assassins Creed are still present). I do see where the quicktime events comment comes from.

I personally am really loving the presentation of the story and in terms of interface appearance, sound and background music it's close to perfect. Fantastic voice acting (as you'd expect with Nolan North voicing). Graphically it's up there with Gears of War 2, Fallout 3 and any other game you'd like to mention.

The game itself certainly has a lot of pro's, it's whether the slight niggles and irritations that will be there for every gamer become a little too much.

It's still not the best as it was intended for daft arcade games off the XBLA. The Hori Arcade stick is the ideal solution, but it's obviously a little bit more. Sadly they didn't make the Hori Arcade stick with 8 face buttons, instead using 6. At least you can re-map on fighting games.

Here's hoping they continue (though I'm sure the developers don't agree).

I suspect a lot of this is being caused by the market getting flooded with EUK stock at knock-down prices. You might want to think about keeping some cash around if Zavvi go under for the same reason.

And here's me, only just about thinking on getting into the action. Late, as ever. ::/: ;D
