Hi I am having problems opening Real Player on Vista Ultimate Operating System.
I get an error message 'This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix this problem'

Well I have tried to re-installing and get the same error message once I re-boot and launch Real Player.
I have down load from the net the said file.
But what do I do with it ! ?
Do I need to copy to another folder ! ?

many thanks

Have you tried Real Alternate and using MPC?

dll's usually go in system32 :)

Might cure that issue but Real Player itself is still a serious problem :p

Yeah, I thought Vista had done away with dll's.

I've fallen right out with Real Player since it crashed and won't let me rebuild the library. It gets to 533 entries and then there's an unrecoverable stack overrun.
What's worse is that this error was in Realplayer 10 and hasn't been fixed in 11.

Have you tried Real Alternate and using MPC?

Tell me more please.

Google has the answer (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=real+alternative) :)

That crash is probably due to a damaged file in your library. Rebuild the library in batches and see if you can figure out which file is causing it.

Tell me more please.

Rather than downloading and installing Real Player you can download Real Alternative which has all the files to play Real Player files, but you can do so through a regular Media Player like Media Player Classic, so you don't get the massive bloatware, nor another program to use for one file type (you can also get Quicktime Alternative)

Download Real Alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/real_Alternative.htm)

Format C drive ! ! !
Well that will wipe every thing from my Operating system to all my software applications !

There must be a way of unistalling Real Player so I can install Real Alternative Player ?

RE-install Real Player so all files are there, then uninstall?

RE-install Real Player so all files are there, then uninstall?

This should work perfectly.

No uninstall option from the start menu?
If not, add/remove programs perhaps?

Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features on Vista) it is. Real doesn't have an Uninstall option on the Start menu (yes, I do have the misfortune to have it installed).

I've just realised that I don't have it on this install.
Weird, as I was sure I had.
