I hate TFT's so I would never buy one myself and as such have no idea about them.
But the other half mum wants one to replace her 14" CRT fishbowl and has asked me for help. Stupid thing I know but what the hell...
She doesn't game or do anything too intensive with her machine - just surfs and types really with occasional photography going on.
Any recommendations? *and why so I can try to explain it to her.....*

Pretty much anything in that price range will be generic, probably all made in the same factory. Unless you get lucky in the sales of course.
Go for a well-known brand if you can find one in a sale at that price. If not, just look for the features you want and try to get an in-store demo.
I got an Acoustic Solutions LCD from Argos. The EPG and related OSD is a pile of **** compared to what I'm used to, but the picture and sound are OK, so I'd rate it adequate. Humax sets have a better EPG and still do OK on the rest, but you might struggle to get one for that price.
Sorry I can't be more specific than that.

Ummmm... Aren't they all TV's? This is for a PC.... ;)
Oops. That went in one side and out the other. Sorry. :o
Dell 2009WFP then. While I don't have experience with that exact model, if they're anything like as good as their predecessors then you really can't go wrong. Seen them as low as £150. Cheaper end of the Samsung range is in budget too.

Haly has a 19" TFT that i've just realised i completely forgot to get in touch with her over it too. She's got a slightly smaller one and wants to get rid of both, my mum needs a generic TFT so i'll get the smaller one and you go the 19" sorted. I don't think its anything special but thats not what youre after, youre after one that just works really? Get in touch with her, like im about to do so too :P
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16158)19-Asus-VW192S-5ms-Widescreen-LCD-monitor.aspx is the one I've got that I'm getting rid of :)
No idea if it's what you're after but if you're interested, let me know :D
