I noticed my instance of Firefox (latest patched version) was using about 180Mb of RAM. This seems a lot.
Closed and reopened and it's sitting at 78Mb and slowly rising. I have around 20 tabs open. Does it have a known leak? If so, is there any fix apart from closing and reopening?

Firefox has always leaked a bit. They claim it's something to do with cacheing, but frankly I (and a lot of others) don't buy it.
I've also had 1.5.0.7 crash a few times. 1.5.0.6 was fine but it auto-updated. |

Mine's using 488MB currently with only 5 tabs open - peaked at 512MB sometime since this morning when I opened the first tab
I usually try to close it a few times during the day to keep it under control but don't think I've done that at all today ![]() 1.5.0.7 here also - will close it and re-open all the tabs and see what I get edit: using 63MB now, more than a little leaky then it would seem ![]() edit2: just remembered that I was playing a java based game earlier - probably accounts for a lot of the mess Last edited by rich99; 30-09-2006 at 00:36. |

Oh yes, Java will do that for you. That'll be somewhat lazy garbage collection.

More extensions tend to make the leak worse, but yeah, FF has had memory leak issues from the first release candidates.

FF is a buggy piece of crap tbh. Can't see the appeal.
More serious issues this year than IE. I'll stick with Opera tbh. Although IE7 is very nice to use. Simon/~Flibster

What you think about Firefox, I think about Opera.

I used Opera quite a while ago but found that as it matured, I stopped liking it. Switched to FF and much preferred it. About six months ago I tried Opera again and really disliked it.
IE7 is plain awful.
