I should know this but i'm scratching my head a bit.
There are some folders on my PC which I want restricted to other users on the same machine. How can I do this? My daughter deleted some files in the family photo album folder by mistake. I had a backup but I'd like her to have read access only on that folder. There are some other folders which I don't want her to see but want my wife to see etc.. Basic XP user profile controls look pretty basic. Thanks

NTFS security. Right click the file/folder, properties, hit security and change to fit (take out 'Users' and add in named accounts).

Daz, I'm shocked.
![]() I believe you'll need to boot into safe mode or apply a registry hack to get that option. ![]() |

If it's Pro then just turning off simple file sharing would show the security tab.

True enough, though I'd have assumed a home system was not a Domain member.
![]() I was just looking for the option needed. ![]() Fear not, I've done exactly the same thing - told people to use that option then wondered why it wasn't there |

File sharing? You want the security tab Paul. Untick simple file sharing (bottom of tools> folder options), and there should be a new security tab on the properties for anything sitting on an NTFS volume.
