Over the past few weeks, Vue cinema in Reading (possibly elsewhere too?) has been showing old classic films. Last night The Dam Busters was being shown, so I quickly grabbed some ticket.
Whilst it is more then 50 years old, and even though I've seen it countless times on the small screen, it was well worth a visit. It put modern films to shame. No relying on special effects, no relying on music to generate atmosphere and tension. The acting is top-notch, and some of the scenes are brilliantly shot. Worth a trip, should anyone see the offer elsewhere.

Love the Damn Busters. One of my favourite war movies.

I went as well.
Got a bit of interest as my Grandad was a SAC on 617sqn during the time of the Rhur Valley raids. ![]() Superb film. Nice that they were allowed to use some of the original Upkeep and Highball test footage in it. Plus, 3 Lanc's flying in formation. We won't see that again. ![]() Should dig out my photo's of when my Grandad went back to Scampton for a 617 reunion. Got several of Nigger's grave. Had PA474 fly in for it too. Simon/~Flibster

I had dinner with a couple once at my mates house. His bathroom is unfortunetly connected to the kitchen. His guests wife got up to go to the loo & the husband starting singing the Damn busters theme tune at the top of his voice. His missus could be heard shouting STFU will you every now & again
![]() Apparently he does it Every time she goes to the Loo :undecided: |
