I know some folks here will be more familiar with his works than others. I read part of his infamous Wheel of Time series a while back, but its been on my "must read" list for ages. Sadly he died yesterday after suffering from primary amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy, with the final book, A Memory of Light, unfinished, though he's specifically shared the plot lines with his immediate family recently so there is a chance someone else will be able to finish the series as he wanted. What is it with famous people dying recently?! I would be paranoid right about now if I was well known...

A sad, sad day indeed. I had no idea he was fighting such a disease.
As an avid reader that's been chomping at the bit for Memory of Light, I hope those left with the daunting task of finishing it do RJ proud and compose it in a tasteful manner keeping with the (sometimes excruciatingly drawn out) style RJ set down in the previous 11 volumes (of which I have all of them in hard-bound).
