Default Star Wars : The Old Republic

Shamelessly nabbed from another forum's discussion but

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43649.html

I'm a great fan of star wars games- KOTOR, Jedi Knight, the Xwing series of old - who else is getting excited after viewing this trailer?

There's a LOT of potential to create a great game here Although I am unsure about the MMO qualities from that video alone - they don't seem to focus upon any 'team play'/ group action which is where the MMO appeals to me

What does everybody think?

Was reading an article on this in Edge earlier, does look really good

Certainly has the potential to be a PC game I play for more than just reviewing reasons which is a rare feat in itself lately!

I was rather underwhelmed by it.

Another Star Wars RPG game, okay sure. KOTOR and KOTOR II were great (latter not so quite so good as former.) MMO.. where everyone is a jedi / sith? Oh dear, that's not even remotely canon, totally unrealistic, a universe where the economy couldn't possibly work (unless it's all powered by NPCs), but, hey, never mind, like it's not going to look utterly stupid wandering into a town to find hundreds of players there all with their lightsabers out like they're some kind of e-peen.
Every choice you make impacts your character? Apart from that being overblown marketing speak for 'each choice you make about quests to do and how to solve them' rather than really every single choice, it's hardly new and innovative despite what they say. Other MMOs are that immersive too (Eve Online for one, and that has impacts beyond quests / character.)

No hint at an end game, no hint that anything you do will actually have any real impact on the rest of the gaming populations.. so what does that leave? Probably another game where once you've hit level cap you just keep running instances. Joy. Might as well keep on playing WoW/WAR/D&D Online etc. etc. etc.

So no, not particularly thrilled. Graphics look good, I'm assuming the jerkiness is just because it's in such an early stage of development and hasn't been optimised yet.
