Vista home premium
Morning all. Toying with an "upgrade". I currently have XP MCE 2005 on my HCPC and am wondering if it's time to move it over to vista MCE. I understand home premium and ultimate have the MCE portion included?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=1298&subcat= Is it worth it? I have hardly used Vista, so can't really comment on it's functionality. Reading the review it can be used as a legit method of getting vista64 (not that I know if it'll be any use). I know windows 7 is due out soon, but I long ago decided not to get an MS OS soon after release! What I can't seem to find is if the upgrade is usable for OEM copies of XP (MCE was only available as OEM)... Ta Last edited by Nutcase; 22-02-2009 at 11:29. |

I'm currently running the Windows 7 beta on some of my machines and I'd say it was much better than Vista. Vista works OK but Windows 7 has been described as the OS Vista should have been - and I agree. TBH, if you're planning to upgrade, I'd wait for Windows 7 mate
Not played much with the media centre side of things but it looks to be fairly similar on both.

I'd wait for 7. It is in many ways such an 'evolution' of Vista it makes Vista pretty much seem like one giant beta test for Windows 7. The actual beta of Windows 7 has been almost flawless for me, far far more stable than I was expecting it to be.

I would get vista now for the reason it can be picked up for as little as £40 of ebay. You can then buy the upgrade edition of windows7 when it comes out. giving you uber good cheapness.
Other than that reason, unless there's something in vista you want, then there's no point upgrading. Also the Media centre in W7 is so so much better. Just keep searching ebay and you can get a bargain http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microsoft-Wind...3A1|240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microsoft-Vist...3A1|240%3A1318

Hmm interesting, thanks
Main reason for toying with vista is that it is supposed to handle HD broadcasts much more natively without hacking it around and stuff - which is not something I'm too good at these days! |
