Default Xbox 360 DVD playback

Just shoved a DVD in my Xbox 360 to watch and my monitor went crazy - either no picture at all or noise all over the place. Monitor is a Dell 2707WFP and it's connected via component and running at 720p (I get the same craziness with the Dash if I try 1080p so I avoid that).

Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

PS - the DVD plays back fine in a PC running MediaPortal.

It doesn't upscale over component (only VGA and HDMI), so I'd guess the monitor doesn't like what's being thrown at it.

That'll be it then.

I'm already using the VGA port (four times over as I've got a KVM). I wanted to go HDMI originally but that was another problem - finding a cable that fits.

No it doesn't, but it does have DVI, which was going to be my solution until I discovered you can't have both HDMI and seperate audio at the Xbox end (well, not unless I break open the shell on the AV cable which would certainly be one option).

If you're not bothered about 5.1 etc.. just get yourself Dell Soundbar.

Non-existant.

(I know how to as I have an electronics qualification but have neither the tools nor the skill)

I'm not sure how that helps.
