Life, Love and a dose of modern perspective. A bit of a ramble here so stick with me.

On the way home from work today I had our local Rock Radio station on. Ont he drive show they have a bit of a local radio celebrity on called Mike Sweeny who has been doing Radio in Manchester for a good 30 years now, not to mention a really good stint on Capital Gold . A real music officiando and some kudos for being a long standing member of The Salford Jets.

Anywho on tonights show he had Diana Moran who was a fitness guru from the 70's & 80's and also beat a serious bout of the big C some 20 odd years ago. Last week at the ripe old age of 70 she has just completed a trek of the Great Wall of China. Which got Mike talking about his own life. He plays 5-a-side 3 times a week, DJ's full time and keeps the band going on a heavy tour schedule. Both say the difference between now and 30 years ago is they have lost a little bit of pace. So as in the words of our very own Malc, Mature is indeed the new youth !!! The thing is these two people aren't alone are they, there are a load of 'maturer' folk who talk life by the scruff of the neck and live every single minute. My Missus grandad who is going on 84 now goes for a 5 mile walk every day with his mates and I swear he doesn't look a day over 60 !!!!!

It got me thinking though what an absolute sorry bunch our generation are who have their life drip/spoon fed to us on a daily basis. I was looking round our floor at work today and there must be about 150 people on our floor. All had long faces like the end of the world was penciled in for a week on Tuesday. You can guaratee that any day of the week you can walk past every single desk at any time of the day and a good percentage of people are just sat there looking and wallowing in the doom and gloom of the global recession. Depressing themselves as the FTSE ticker takes another battering.

Our generation is so lucky in that we get so much for very little in relative terms. Yes life is bad but going off some other peoples life experiences it can be a whole lot worse. Of course it's scary and I would be the first to admit that I am not as optimistic as I was this time last year with a new baby less than six weeks away.

But I decided the other day that I am not going to let the ******** drag me down. Every day walk in work with a smile. It shows how bad some people are feeling when they think you are weird coming in with a smile on your face. The thing is what's it all worth if we aren't all going to come out the other side of this better people than what we are now.

My sister in law who is 21 was absolutely devastated the other day when she was told she may have to go onto a 4 day working week. I said to her when it rains every day you got to try your damned hardest to break through the clouds to see the sunshine.

I maybe underplaying the gravity of the situation and oversimplifying what other people have done. But by god we have to take life by the horns and live it rather than it being drip fed to us as passive consumers. If people twice my age can live life to the maximum and enjoy every breath they take in the face of adversity I am never likely to see then why can't I.

I wouldn't say it's responsible for making people grumpy, but I would say that before the internet we actually had to go out and speak to people to become grumpy

Nope she was working 5 day week and been asked to goto a 4 day week

I get 4 day weekends! And I only work a 4 day week!
