Default SAAB is Dead, New Motor time.

Killed me SAAB today at mid day going down our local drag strip (M69)
Been shopping for summit fast & fun, Looked at an Old Scooby an Old EVOII & a Saxo VTR
Although I like the Evo the best I think I will go for the Saxo as it is a Lot cheaper not only to buy but to run & to repair. I am expecting repairs as this is just a toy & to be thrashed & enjoyed. On the test run it was Mental, It runs 205's so sticks to the road like crap to a horse hair blanket. Not really a top end car but definately a good little street racer from 0 - say 90ish

The Evo was Monsterous, 300bhp & more grip than a power lifter Kin thing hurts you when you proper push it round the bendy bits I want it but my mate who owns it likes it to much & wants too much money for it at the mo, Maybe I'll be able to nick it off him in the future.

Old Scooby, Well that was just an Old Scooby, On another day I may have been tempted but next to the Evo it just didn't get me going. On a side note my mate who owns it is a Complete mad man & goes out drifting on a weekly basis & taking on one of his cast offs can be a bit costly.

Anyway heres a pic of the Saxo VTR whoopassmakemefeel17againrollerskate

Needs a damn good clean & it looks like the bonnet is off a different motor to me, No crash damage anywhere though.
Thoughts ?

SAAB Loss = Screen price was 675, I kicked him down to 475 but after getting a noise from the engine kicked that down to 300 quid. Sold my Jeep for 150 quid the same day so I am down 150 quid, These things happen & I must say I am taking it well.
It was far to slow & gives me the best excuse to buy myself summit faster & more fun.

Have you already bought it?

If not I assume you've done the all the usual checks, last MOT, any advisories, service history, reason for the suspected new bonnet, gotten right under the car for a good look for rust etc etc? Are you mechically minded? If not have you considered asking a mate who is to look over the engine etc in exchange for a pint or two? Or getting the AA/RAC to take a look. It's saved me from taking home a ticking time bomb before.

You sometimes don't even need to go through with the check, if the owner knows something is wrong with it they'll nervously decline inspections by the RAC or independant mechanics. At that point you know it's a dog in disguise and you walk away.

Another mate is the mechanic that put a clutch in it about 2 weeks ago, I rang him & he said it looked ok, Seemed a fair motor, nowt obvious sort of thing, clutch went in easy/smooth etc
Paradigm (sp?) has grounded me a bit with some advice that I would be giving to others You know what it's like though when you see summit you like & can easily afford it.

Amongst my Friends I can say that I could buy this without it even effecting me money wise, My insurance will swap it over for No cost & same rate as before. New clutch, 6 months Tax, Long MOT, CD player, drives sweet & is Great fun.
Even if I have 4 weeks teenage fun out of it & then smash it up as long as I walk away from it I wouldn't mind. (inner child )

Not bought it yet mate. Sorry am rambling on aren't I.

Saxo seems an alright buy, cheap and fun, which is essentially what you're after. The Scooby and the Evo are more fun, but cost more as well so it all boils down to how much you want to "waste"

Evo every time.
Evo's 1-3 are cheap enough (and easy enough) to fix if they break.....which they tend not to do.
More "juicy" on fuel of course, but you know what your usage is like better than I do.

Saab/Vauxhall/GMC **** **** is Dead/broken/agonna/deceased/Isnomore.
I'm going to look at a totally original Mk2 MR2 this morning, I've always like them & this does seem original & unmolested. Still may go for the Saxo but if I do I will kick the price, It was Superb fun to rash about.

Mate came round this morning with his recovery truck & we went & fetched my dead Saab, I started it to get it on my drive & **** me you should have heard it + Imagine 3 full snap on toolboxes in a washing machine on a 1400rpm spin cycle & you will be close. Jim says is it ****** Malc ? I just looked at him & we burst out laughing.

If you're gonna kill it, kill it properly

Pop it on the classifieds on UKSaabs.co.uk - someone might offer above the scrap value

Good idea, Would be a shame to bin it off as it still looks well, piece of weak ***t if you ask me though.
Was great when it went Bang though, First I got a slgiht rattle, then it went a bit loud Then it went BAAAAANNNNGGGGG dagger dagger dagger dagger dagger dagger
I drove it around half a mile across two roundabouts with it pissing smoke & sounding like a tank, Peoples faces were priceless & me in the drivers seat in hysterics with Classic FM playing Brauhms Full blast to drowned out the clattering noise
