Default Research/fighting game?

Asked this on the other forum and all they could suggest was Galactic civilisation 2 and sins of solar empire

Basically looking for a proper research/buy/build/fight game. Doesn't matter what genre. Like the UFO series, space empires or Syndicate Wars.

Any other ideas. I hate finding new games as pretty much everything fails to deliver in the last 5 years. Oh and not driving games, Some of them have great buy/tech things but driving games are for a console hate playing them on a pc.

Sins of a solar empire is the only one i can think of. The genre doesn't get the love it deserves

I recently rebought xcom apocalypse on Steam for like £2, well worth it imo and still a fantastic game.

X-Com Apocalypse rocked so hard, I'd love to see a remake of that with up to date graphics.

Master Of Orion 1 or 2. Most excellent games if somewhat dated.....

Civ 4 or Sid's Alpha Century (Civ in the future)

Along the Xcom genre there is the UFO games, UFO Aftershcock, UFO Aftermath and a third but I've not played it and can't remember the name. Very good games!

Was it XCOM: Apocalypse?

Someone had a go at remaking UFO:Enemy Unknown a few years ago, unfortunately the consensus was it was a load of septoid poo.

The UFO games are somewhere in between the original (i.e. global) and Apocolapse (Real time / pause squad combat)
