Day trip to Brighton - suggestions?

I've been a couple of times but as I'm taking Friday as my first day's holiday of the year to go, I want to have a little fun I've been to the Pavillion and the aquarium before so I don't think I'll bother with those again. I can waste plenty of money on the beach/pier but apart from that I'm not sure what else there is to do. Any ideas?

And before you say it, I'm not going shopping and I already plan to spend a fair bit of time in the boozer.

Get the 27 bus from the station to the Marina...

Must go to the Lanes. Devil's Dyke if it's nice weather, or Devil's Dyke if it's windy (fly a kite). Then again I'm only going on what I've done with my cousin who lives there, which is very little that didn't involve alcohol.

Lets get this right because if you don't know Brighton you might miss out on the cool lanes because you think the old lanes are the only bit. If you find yourself surrounded by jewelrry shops you need to cross the road

So many nice places to eat, if you like seafood and you are feeling flush try Riddle and Finns in the old lanes, very nice There are some other great places, my wife recommends http://www.foodforfriends.com/ but its veggie. Do not eat chain, you can get great food in whatever price range.

In the evening you could try the Duke of York Cinema which shows niche movies or check out one of the comedy places.

Have a nose at the pier for traditional but expensive fun and wander the galleries on the front.

Komedia its in the North Laine.. bro has been there and he said it was good... also in the North Laine is a massive brick a brac shop (think its in Kensington Gardens) its near a cafe called Wai Ki Ki Moo Cow... you can spend hours in there looking at other people's junk... lol there are a few gems in there I am sure.

Walk to the seafront and walk alongside the promenade on the beach, there are some cool penny arcades (some really old ones where you have to exchange your current money for old money) there is a fortune teller like the one in big good fun!

Foodwise: There is a brilliant cafe near the clocktower - its a family run place.. look for the Bench shop which is on the corner, then follow the road down, past Holland and Barratt keep on this side of the road and it is not much further down - it has its food displayed in the window (MB-H would like it here)

Otherwise, there is http://www.mommacherri.co.uk/ which was on Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares... never got round to eating there though.

Al Duomo is good though - which is near the entrance to the pavillion...lots of nice places to eat and drink on the Brighton/Hove border.

Is The Lanes and North Laine the same place? I've heard them mentioned quite a bit.

There is the South and North Laines

It's separated by a main road where all the buses go past (North Street), the south laines (beach side) has shops like FCUK and stuff. North Laines has all the independant shops, little dinky ones, and funky ones, it is awesome !

That rings a bell actually, I remember a load of chains being near the independent shops. I think I'll head there for lunch. I've read there are some nice pubs in Hanover, is it worth going there?
