Default Diesel on the road

Does anyone know who I need to speak to about a diesel spillage?

In Hungerford, on a roundabout next to a petrol station, the road is pretty much caked in the stuff. The only reason I know this is that I slid across the road, allowing me plenty of time to smell/feel the stuff up close.

By the way, if someone finds the end of my finger, I'll happily pay P&P for it.

Edit: Sorry for the typo in the title, typing is proving fun.

Highways Agency? Local Council? Non-emergency number for police?

Thanks, I've hit the police first as I've had many bad experiences with the other 2.

I've spoken to someone here at work, they skidded on that bit of road in a fancy Audi. If R2D2 can't stop a car skidding, what chance do I have...

I'd ring Old Bill & pat yourself on the back for saving Numerous Bikers from feeling the tarmac.
I hate derv drivers... O wait.

I Never over fill mine though & used to ride myself, Just another reason I reckon Every single person should have to do a Year on a bike Before they can drive a car.

It's completely impractical, but you're right that it would create much better road users.

I agree completely. One of the cyclists arriving at the roundabout before me was lucky enough to have the wind blowing in the right direction, he smelt it and managed to stop in time. As I'm 'just' a cyclist, it wasn't too bad (aside from a shorter finger and a mashed leg). I'd hate to see a biker come off.

I have no idea how so much of that sh1t can end up on a roundabout without anyone noticing (or caring).

Without pointing the finger (< LIE) It's "usually" a lorry that has just filled with an unsecure filler cap, They bang them right to the top on fill up & the first roundabout gets rid of the excess.

Looks like it's oil, rather than diesel, as I can't smell it on my cycling gear. It's amazing how far it spread, they've put sand/grit/dust down on just about every road.

I am really not looking forward to cycling home...

Nasty, you stick the little one on the same bike then?

Just found out it was hydraulic fluid from a bin lorry. Nice!
