cutlery and plate sets?

Looking to get some "decent cutlery and plate sets" I'm not looking for anything expensive just nice.

Found these http://www.viners.co.uk/products.asp?partno=5801129 something along that price line, although nothing seems to stand out especially. Anyone got anything nice.

As for a dinning set (plates, bowls, side plates) I have no idea where to start.

I have asda smart price cutlery which bends and tesco value plates..

I have viners stuff for cutlery. Denbigh do some looooovely dinner services, and you can get them in outlets/sales for about 50% less than normal, but that's still quite expensive. Alternatively, look through Argos, see if anything in there takes your fancy, they range from all different prices.

That cutlery set looks really nice. It should be comfortable to hold in your hand and that looks perfect!

In terms of tableware, I do love the Denby stuff that Kitten mentioned (especially the blue) but it's just too expensive for daily use. For me, the most important things are that I can replace it easily if I smash it (which I'm prone to) and that it's a nice simple design that won't date easily. I don't really like heavily coloured dining plates either because they can make the food look a strange colour.

We bought a load of this from M&S when we first moved in. It's always on 3 for 2, which is useful and it's very affordable. You don't have to buy it in a set as it all comes separately. I have a few bits of this mixed in too because I like the square side plates etc. Because it's so simple and plain, I can also put another colour/design with it if I ever see some lovely side plates etc. Food always looks really nicely presented on it too

yeah denby is very nice but even with 50% of it's to expensive..
Dinner sets either seem to be white, girly pastel colours, flowery or solid black..

That M&S stuff is too plain, not sure what I'm klookign for I thinks hats 99% of why I can't find anything. nothings caught my eye yet.

Me n Jingo have got a full set of crockery from Whittards - it's very nice quality and a little quirky, but tends to be a tad pricey. Luckily for us though there is a retail outlet near us that gets rid of the 'end of line' products at £1.25 per unit.

As for cutlery - we're going to head back and get some Whittard stuff also - we picked up some cheap and un-cheerful bits from Tesco and it is a pile of poop!

P.S. I've just noticed you're just around the corner from us - so you will probably have heard of Street (Clark's Village) - head on over there for some bargainous kitchen dealaroolios!

I'd go to an outlet place like Kitten suggested and have a look around in that case. You might find something that catches your eye.

I like plain stuff that lets the food speak for itself and matches everything, but know that it's not to everyone's taste

Parents have a Spode Blue Italian dinner service, pretty good quality but also fairly expensive.

They have some Guy Degrenne flatware which wasnt horrendously expensive but is pretty good quality.

John Lewis is a good place to visit for this sort of thing

Me too. Can't justify the cost though, especially as I know that it'll either get chipped by Leon when he washes it or smashed by me being clumsy
