Ice-cream maker, whose got one?

What do you think of it and do you buy ice cream still?

The reason is that i actually like frozen yogurt and the only ones that I can find is Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia and its £4 a tub!

I am thinking about.

Sounds like a cunning plan, As cunning as a fox being cunning past some farmer with a gun being cunning trying to catch the cunning fox whilst he is trying to be cunning.
I estimate 18 tubs before you are quids in but that's minus the ingredients & there's a gamble on whether it taste as good as the Hippys ice cream. I'm a Big fan of Ben & Jerrys Hippy Goo so let me know how it pans out.

I still buy ice cream, you have to freeze the maker for 24hours and home made ice cream isn't that cheap and the effort, it is darn good though.

Not keen on Ben and jereys ice cream though, not enough vanilla ice cream with bits in. Why are they so keen on chocolate ice cream.

Well, the book is just a starting point, trial and error and chop and change to my own liking.

i.e.e I find their phish food too sweet, can always hold back some sugar/less chocolate for that to suit.

The best part, I can make like 3 pints at a time and freeze it in plastic tubs!

That's the best part, the ice cream maker I linked to is a fairly decent one, you can get a cheaper one for £20 less (but plastic with reports of leakage over time) and make your money back sooner.

I used the same theory for coffee, got a Gaggia machine and I made my money back instead of going to Starbucks after 150 cups, that was over 3 years ago and probably 1000 cups later i am wayyyyyy quids in!

best thing about an ice cream maker is that you can experiment & try all kinds of stuff. I say buy I have one, we don't use it that much, but I'm not a huge ice cream fan.

I want to make my own frozen yogurt more than ice cream. Like i said, frozen yogurt is hard to find with limited flavours.

you can make lovely frozen yoghurts with a muller light & some flavouring NOM!

sorbets are good too.

After doing some research, it seems the machine with a built in compressor are the best bet. Mainly for 2 reasons.

1 - No need to chill the bowl a day or over night before hand. So if i want to make ice cream on impulse, i can.

2 - I saw some youtube vide, the "bowl" for the machine i wanted to get are WAY huge, it doesn't look like it will fit in my freezer, not without taking some food out.

With the 2 above, the lack of planning (i am too impulsive when it comes to food) and can't keep the bowl in the freezer all the time it means i will seldom use it.

Which leaves the option of getting one of those with a built in compressor which after some research....this one.

Gaggia Ice cream maker

It is a little pricey (though it is the same price as my Gaggia espresso machine), but for a life time of fresh ice cream?

This deal is ancient (2 years!), but i always use HUKD past deals, and their heat, to gauge what the "community" feel is a decent deal. Or what i should expect to pay for things. Usually works pretty well...

So £200 is an average price, and at some point 2 years ago there was a good deal where-as you could get a similar refrigeration type for less than £100, so it might be worth sitting it out for a little while or researching around again see what's about the market. I don't know personally that's just me, £200 for it still makes financial sense if used enough, they ven point that out in the that old HUKD thread So if you're impatient and can easily afford it and want it, yes it still makes perfect sense, which.co.uk seems to rate it VERY highly as well!
