So i'm finally going to buy an Xbox 360
I'm at least 5 years behind everyone else I don't care! I've been tempted over and over again by Deus Ex, and i've cracked, So i've seen the 250Gb Slim version with Deus Ex for £199 in GAME, which seems decent for what i'm getting right?
I would buy second hand, but there seem to be more versions than you can shake a stick at, and knowing NOTHING about them, i'm a little worried i'll buy one of the millions of lemons Microsoft made... Sensible? Also the slim seems nice and small, AND quiet, hopefully reliable now days, and whilst i looked at buying the 4GB version and "upgrading" it, it turns out it would probably cost minimum the £30 extra GAME are asking... So just asking for hardened advice on this, this will be my first real console literally since my N64, i don't count the Wii because my mum bought me it randomly as an Xmas present, and i've only ever used it to play silly (but fun!) drunken multiplayer games with mates etc... and by god it's great for that, but lets fact it it'll never run Deus Ex! Since i've softmodded the wii (years ago) i've used it loads, and played loads of games but it's still a social thing. I can't really justify/afford a real gaming computer, i'd rather have a nice laptop and spend a little money on a 360. Also i get the feeling the modding/hacking community is fairly low on the ground with these boxes because of Live, so realistically i have to buy all my games, which might hurt my pocket a little it seems!? Oh and also Live is a service i pay for in advance i see (i literally have ignored all of this for this many years, and yes i dont know how either...) But i've obviously heard its very possible to buy cheapie live subs etc...? It also looks like a great media streamer by the by, and i can get a remote for it Anyway advice please and corrections! Before i regret dropping 2 ton on this within the month! |

Thats not a bad deal, a lot of those games are classics which could be picked up for £10 a pop secondhand but as a package it's a good starter

There are some bargains on ebay if you do a midweek auction. Also AVForums tends to be a good source of games. You might also want to look at one of these:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-360-Qui.../dp/B000FDQS4O Its really handy for having a charged battery ready to go without having the play & charge wire running across the floor. If you were further south I'd give you a load of games to play. In terms of modding you would want one of the older units and then you could JTAG it. However you would lose online play. |

Thats good, and I don't think that since the 250gb models came about there have been the notorious reliability issues we used to see.
But I'd still buy new. |

Coolio, so long as there are no drawbacks then with the Slim 250Gb i might end up getting that second hand, seems deals are to be had! I have no interest in new stuff Anyway as much as i want to play Deus Ex i just spend my 360 budget i was thinking of on a bike (+the bike budget so i hope it's worth it!). So this is now shelved until next month, although the girl really wants to play oblivion and fable series, so i doubt it'll wait much longer now!

As a media client it's not too bad.
I've been using it over a powerline network as a UPNP client with Serviio as the server. Also works OK with XBMC as server but the overhead on the server side was bad for me as it was just a celeron processor that end. I stick to XVID files. You can get a remote but the pad is wireless and does the job. My understadning is that all of the slim models are far less likely to RROD on you.

I'm definitely getting one now, really got the itch to play Deus Ex! But, i bought a new bike as a toy instead, and next month its my dad's 70th brother 21st were going away to celebrate and i go away just after with the lads to eastern Europe. So sensibly i should save this money for now If i hadn't bought the bike it would be a different story
