Default Haggling with insurers over premiums

I assume many folks do this but just to remind everyone always to do this, I have never failed to get more money off just for asking

Got my renewal today at £799.90, rang them said it was too much and they immediately reduced it to £725 , still said it was too much and they went off to speak to other folks and came back with £680.99 which was the absolute bottom line they said

I nearly always find the maximum they will budge to be almost dead on 15%

It never even occurs to me to do that - think I'm too shy when it comes to that kind of thing

I don't even haggle in markets though!

!

If you are shy deal with it like this

Ring them after you get your renewal and say "thanks for the excellent service that you have given me but I won't be renewing as xyz insurers have quoted me £xxx " ( 10-15% less ) , they will then say "oh hang on we will see what we can do " and almost always come back with a better deal, that way you don't even have to ask

I never, ever pay the originally quoted price for insurance. My renewal came through a couple of weeks ago at £500. After a quick phone call I got that down to £425 with guaranteed no claims thrown in.

I never haggle directly but with Elephant whenever I get my renewal I always run a new quote on their online system and it always comes up lower. I then phone them, mention the lower price after a few minutes confirming that all of the details on the 2 quotes are the same and I always get the lower price.

I had a quote of £510 including all mods and got them down to £447 FC which I was really happy with. I always tell them, oh but this company quoted me £xxx but I really don't want to leave you lot as you've been great to me over the years... blah blah blah - it always seems to work.

Good advice there Monsieur Rotty

you just say that you will confirm the other quote and then get back to them to cancel but don't do it, your policy will then renew by default

In reality this will never happen , I have never failed to get the premium reduced
