Vista and forgotten passwords
long story short, got a vista home premium machine sitting in front of me. 1 user account and the password has been misplaced (or mistyped but nothing we try is working) and there is no reminder.
is there any way in vista you can remove the password to get back into it? i'm thinking along the lines of the default admin account in XP but i know the vista setup is loads different

There are various *nix boot disks for 2000/XP that will remove passwords but I don't know if there are such a thing for Vista. I've got a 2000/XP one in my box of disks at work but can't remember what it's called.

Thats not going to be quick, by any stretch of the imagination.
And generating decent rainbow tables is also going to take QUITE some time! |

i doubt it will be anything too complicated, the details on the live CD look like it contains all the tables for alphanumeric passwords up to 14 digits?

You'd be better off using one of those password reset/blanking tools first before you try cracking. The Ultimate Boot CD has one I think, not sure if it'll work in Vista (or indeed if Vista does anything with local passwords different to 2K/XP).
