Interesting mobile phone problem...
So I got a shiny new Nokia E51 last month. Great handset, pretty easy to use and configure and some lovely features (wireless LAN in such a small device is pretty awesome ).
However, I've been noticing a problem with text messages... Sometimes people don't receive messages I send, or receive blank messages. And sometimes I don't get replies from people or they get delivered quite a while after being sent (I imagine the latter is network lag as my sister gets that as well on her SE handset). This morning I put my SIM back into my W880i and sent some test messages. There was a bit of network lag but messages delivered and I received replies within a decent length of time. Is it possible that there is a problem with the E51? Or is it more likely to be a network problem? I doubt that ringing up Orange to ask about it will be useful as I didn't buy the E51 from them. I did debrand the handset when I received it, could this be the problem? Has anyone else had a similar problem and solved it? If I can't get this sorted then I'll just have to go back to my W880i permenantly, and shelve the E51, until I can get my upgrade from Orange in December (when I'm hoping that this will have been released and be available ). Cheers peoples

I'd be surprised if it was a network issue - I'd be looking at the phone. Can you revert the phone to stock and try it?

Reverted to stock and message sent and received ok.
But it has been sporadic so I'll see how it goes. An interesting side effect is that it now seems to have lost all the preset ring/message tones

I've used two different E51's so far, probably one of similar make which i assume your using so the same batch and an older one i bought a year or so ago. I've had nae problems with either. It shouldn't be a network issue, but i can't see it being a phone issue either, i do a fair bit of reading up on my E51 (i'm in love what can i say) and i've not noticed any problems like that.
Obvious question though, how's the firmware, totally up to date? Debranding won't be a problem, its the first thing i did when i switched it on Last edited by LeperousDust; 13-08-2008 at 20:14. |

Firmware is completely up to date and the handset is debranded.
Might try another firmware update (to latest again) to see if I can get ringtones and stuff back... No idea where they've gone, and even copying ringtones into the tones folder on the phone and it can't find them :/
